I'm a former GEAer.  It definitely had its time and Derrick certainly had his hands full with that group.  I miss it (the camaraderie and good-natured banter) sometimes but know that WRX has taken the information side of things to the next level...

Completely agree...that was more of a community...this is a true equipment site.

I liked GEA, but I really liked the old Ham and Egg/Party of Fore site even more.

Then it was obviously not for you.

Your expertise here is as helpful as it always is.

First of all, what does this have to do with Equipment?

Second, a quick google would likely tell you if said thing still existed.

But again, Equipment? Really?

Enlighten me. What does this thread have to do with "Equipment". Inquiring minds want to know.

Yep! I was fairly active on there for a few years, but then migrated over here 15 years ago.

I spent a lot of time on the old GEA website and was wondering if we have a lot of holdovers from that website here.  I tried to check out GEA a few times and I think it may still exist in some form but could not get access.  Was a great site and was wondering if there are a lot of GEA old timers here.

Check out the ‘19th hole’ section of this site. Someone started a topic asking something similar about old golf forums and GEA was brought up.

IMO, it's gone the way similar to Ham n Egg, etc.   Think of it like a club.    Some members get a little older, lose interest in gear and stop playing and move on to other things.   Think of it like spend that corner of the grillroom where some of the long tenured members are hanging out playing cards and discussing lots of other topics.

Some disagreements over moderation have resulted in split up variants.   None of which are  nearly as active as the original, although a few try to keep the golf talk going.

Thanks...appreciate the update...and nice anologies.  Do you still stop by there?

I used to go on GEA. That was a great forum with great info but I've always been more of a lurker and I find the info on WRX better. Although I always did appreciated "chisag" posts. Informative, well written with similar swing speeds and he was always trying out the new stuff. Haven't seen him around here lately.

What was the members name that never lost a club championship and had his own long running thread.  I know it was somebodies alter ego but he was an interesting read.

I still go on the GEA but not nearly as much anymore. I think it was Club Champion.  I actually found those posts funny (for the record, I wasn’t him).

ClubChamp's schtick was classic.  I couldn't believe how his faux persona could get people riled up.  ("It's always a privilege to pull the BMW into the parking spot at the Country Club reserved for the Club Champ.")  Anyone with half a brain knew it was a purely fictitious account.

One interesting character there was HoganRadial (RIP).  I never encountered anyone so anti-Tiger and anti-Nike.

Then, he started to soften on Tiger, a bit.  I wonder what he'd say now...

Never understood why people got riled up over the Futility Folder (politics and religion) either.  You had to get permission just to see it and enter it.  I still remember the day I called a very outspoken liberal poster there (who is a member here) a "racist."  The folder went up for grabs.   I am so much more mellower here at GolfWRX where it's "all golf, all the time."

Certainly remember HoganRadial's Tiger hate...Kelly Greene, RGKeller, Omeletpants, Hax, Anser...some strange guys on there but it was fun for a while.  Never the equipment content they have here though.

There was a site called Golfweb (or something to that effect) that had a very rudimentary single thread type bulletin board that became quite popular.  The Golfweb admin apparently didn't like the BB focused traffic for some reason so they shut it down.  At that time, or maybe because of it, Derick set up GEA.  I joined at that time and posted a fair bit at first but the software format was just horrible in my opinion, and there was too much cliquish banter to keep me interested.  As time went on the good equipment and clubmaking threads diminished to near zero too, as the site became almost entirely social.

Edit: and realize the site was named Golf EQUIPMENT Aficionados.  Key word, Equipment!  There was a LOT of equipment talk during the early years, clubmaking talk too.

I was a member of Golfweb, too.  GolfOpinions was an alternative that never really had the same vibe as GEA, so I didn't stay long there...
