Best Irons for senior golfer 76 years old 6 hdcp

What are you hitting now.   I am 78 and was single figures until early 70's. Now out to early teens.    I went from Mizuno blades to Ping  irons.  Tried various G, I, S, series but have settled on G30's.  They are all solid and it is what fits your eye and gives you the flight and feel you want.

At least they would be a good starting place.    Ping graphite iron shafts are good.

I am using ping i210 but I think I am not strong enough to play them.

What shaft do you have in the i210s? A more helpful shaft may be the key, as per your 7i info:

135 yds yes I was fitted both lie and loft standard.

About 2017 I tried the i200 with AWT 2.0 R-flex, and got pretty good flight. But recently I tried the i210... I'm getting older (turned 70 recently), and the i210 was a bit too much with steel AWTs.

I'm looking at maybe the G425 with the Alta Slate AWT graphite shaft. Got good numbers in the January "rough fitting" promo visit. Will need to tune up my swing muscles before I get fitted.

And... several WRX senior golfers speak highly of the G710s, but with a more robust shaft than the superlight Distanza (~42 grams).

Mavrik family? Take a good look at the spec sheets for all three iron models. The base Mavrik has ended up as an odd GI-distance (??🤔) offering. Very strong lofts.

For Mavrik combo iron sets, the mix tends to be Mav Pro in the scoring clubs and MavMax in the longer clubs. The base Mavs just don't match up well on lofts.

Or, an all MavMax iron set might work. Oddly, despite higher MAX lofts, I'm a club longer with MAX 7i than base Mav 7i.

Let us know what happens!

Ideal club / shaft will be specific to you and your abilities. It has zero to do with your age.

Just want to throw this out to see if anybody has any ideas. Senior golfer a shaft graphite.

What clubs are you currently gaming?

Obviously, as a 6 hdcp, you are hitting the sweet spot more often than not.

If you are gaming blades then any club that suits your eye will probably work for you.

If, by chance, you are gaming super game improvement irons then it would probably best  to stay with that design.

Any way you look at it what suits your eye should be ok for you but would suggest not going too  much of a radical of a  change with what you currently play.

Thanks to all. I have decided to stay with the I210's. I have started to get the hang of these clubs and am getting more consistent.

It’s all about the head/shaft combination and how it fits your swing!

Srixon 785's with the lightest graphite you can control.

Ha ha. As I write this I am in the midst of changing out one of my Srixon combo sets from steel to graphite and will determine just how light I can go.

I have a ZU85 4I, Z585 5 & 6, and Z785 7-AW combo set with Mayazaki Kaula 8 S 85 gram shafts and absolutely love them. They are +½ inch and swing weight is C9-D0. My second set, which is ZU85 4, 5, 6 and Z785 7-AW have Modus 105 R. I can't hit them worth a damn -- standard length and D3 swing weight.

I pulled out the Modus. I am replacing them with Recoil ES 460 stiff, which are 67 grams and installing grips that are 10 grams lighter, which according to swing weight estimates should get me the same C9-D0 swing weight as the Mayazaki's yet weigh 28 grams less. When finished I will add lead tape to see what happens with a higher swing weight with less overall weight. Should be fun!

I went from 105 Modus to Recoil 660SC.  As per my fitters recommendation.  Last Saturday in 20-30 MPH winds shot a sweey -1 par 70 with a three jack and a missed 3.5 foot birdie.

As to your shafts make sure you keep your Swing Weight around that D0  level and you'll be fine .  Mine are D0 until the wedges at D1 for 48* and 52*  then the SW and LW are D2With slightly heavier shafts.

When you get an itch to experiment with other irons in the same class... all the suggestions in this tread are in the ball park.  I bet with your game and your i210s,  the only changes I would make is more based on improved feel, sound and vibration dampening in shafts.  The main consideration is not to switch out for a better feeling iron / shaft that could hurt your game and set you back!

PXG 0211DC and their new ST forged with MMT are worth trying out, as well as  the JPX 921 Forged, HMB.  Irons for me are Sub70 7, 8 , 9  and use a custom wedge.  Rest is easy to hit hybrids Callaway Rogue or Ping G series.   When you get up in years like we are, its about enjoyment, not going for your PGA card 🙂

Update, the clubs are working great, HOWEVER. I made the mistake of going to a Srixon demo day / fitting. Long story short, the ZX7 are amazing. I will go ZX7 5 thru AW and XXIO 11 5 wood and 7 wood. For me, the ZX7 go just as far as ZX5 with much higher flight. The XXIO 11 "weight plus" system is amazing in hybrids and woods!!!
