[Mr. Clean]

I hate today’s golf shoes, I LOVE Footjoy Classics.

 

Here are my “go to’s” for playing.  After each round they get cleaned and polished with Mink oil, uppers and soles. I find them to be very comfortable once they are broken in.

Those are sick! I love my white Icon Blacks, really wish I got a pair in black or white/black wingtips. The new Premiere series just doesn't look as good imo.

Since I received strange reactions from a couple....you young whippersnappers may not know the old steel spikes were often called nails.

 

The picture from the op was with steel spikes. Which are not allowed at most courses in the world.

I was wondering the exact same thing. I haven't heard of a single course that allows metal spikes. Not since the 90's at least.

 I used to love the old scraped up benches in  the locker room and yes. that crunching sound

 

I  remember when the greenskeepers used to say metal spikes aerated the greens and were good

 

The main reason they are banned is because they tore up clubhouses and carts- greens are just an excuse if players can lift their damn feet

I started playing in Footjoy Classics just shortly after I started playing in 1986.  I would say my first pair was in the fall of 1986 or Spring of 1987 and I continued to wear these until the early 2000s.  I got an occasional shoe from another company (Etonics generally) but for me there was nothing better than the FJ Classics.  Add to that the steel spikes and that was an awesome pairing ..... until you were caught in a major thunderstorm with lightening striking close (that actually has happened to me). 

I still wear one of three pairs of FJ Classics today (found new on eBay) but with Black Widow spikes.  Great cart riding shoes but a bit heavy for my old bones to walk in.

Had a pair of their tu-tone green/tan nubucks.

After walking 18, any pair of loafers seemed as light as feathers.

My favs were the all white wingtips. Just gorgeous shoes.

Footjoy Classic Lites, 52076, the Cordovan and white are dynamite and the lites are a very comfortable all leather golf shoe.  
 

The black white Classics are 51110, the white is pebble grain and look fantastic against the black.

I played with this these (these are new) 56903 from the early 90’s to late 90’s then they made us switch to soft spikes.  I feel it is a competitive disadvantage to play in soft spikes.  Even though not two tone still fantastic with the upper pattern with FJ logo.

This is the dirtiest thread in all of WRX forums. 

 

I've been an OG guy all my life. Nothing like what's posted here, but I've always worn the saddle style. I recently lost 1 of my shoes and picked up a some Addidas sneaker style. Better for walking, yes. Classy and awesome, no. I then found my lost shoe and now I have a waterproof pair of shoes and a summer pair.

This is shoe porn for old men!!! LOL! Keep em coming! I am 44 and never liked the old school look but I just bought my first pair of FJ Premiers and I am slowly becoming an old man, I mean convert. LOL!

True but....players did not lift their feet. And did not replace spikes that were worn. 
 

I can definitely say greens are much better with the current spikes.

I played a round in 2019 at Royal St. Georges in England. The players in the group in front of me were wearing metal spikes, as evidenced by the footprints around the holes and later the clop-crunch sound in the parking lot. I imagine there have to be some othr very traditional courses that let you use nails.

But, now it's legal to tap down spike marks. I think the softspikes are a lot more comfortable, and a lot less exciting on a tile bathroom floor.

While you can still find evidence of shoe draggers, the preponderance of softspike and no spike shoes being worn has improved playing conditions.

Our greens used to look much more 'aerated' by lunchtime.

I've never experience metal golf spikes but I have worn metal football cleats for practice and it always was like clop, clop, clop *slides on floor* clop, clop, clop. Repeat a few times.

About a half-size too small, but had the super nice guys at LaRossa stretched them for me.

I have 4 three pairs of FJ Classics.  This is one of the pairs I have.  The picture was when they were new (bought in new condition about 3 or 4 years ago).  They've been worn about 20 rounds now and are broken in.  They're fabulous!!!

this thread has been awesome to scroll through. I've got two pairs of classics myself. All black with ostrich and white and green saddle. They are/were the pinnacle of golf shoes
