Any right handers putting lefty?

A few years ago I had a reaction to a prescribed medication.  It effected my right hand to the point that I could miss the ball when putting.  

I've spent the last 3 years recovering from that and had to switch to the claw grip.  Though it works and I can putt very well, I hate it!!  I've been putting a lot at home over the past 6 months.  I can now putt inside 6 feet with a regular grip.  About a week ago I tried putting left handed and it works awesome.  I've ordered a left handed putter and will start using it to practice next week.  I can use a regular grip and have zero effects on the stroke from my right hand.  Anyone else a righty and putt lefty?

A friend of mine is. Hits a left-handed putter, but every other club in his bag is right-handed. It's always fun when we get paired up with people who have never played golf with him before. Usually takes them a few holes to notice. "Hey, wait a minute? Didn't I just see you hitting right-handed, but now you're putting lefty?"

He was the worst putter on the planet right handed. I had to avert my eyes for fear of being infected.

 

Left handed he looks like a human being putting.

I have an essential tremor that has been affecting my right arm on precision skills for over ten years. After getting properly medicated my putting was a nightmare so I switched to a lefty putter. I did really well save for distance control on lag putting.  I was almost a decent putter. I used it for one year.

I've considered putting right just for the hardware. Nobody makes a fake lefty Cameron, dammit. 🤣

In high school I did it for a brief while.  I still putt with the back of my putter when I’m really frustrated and do fairly well.  I think it has to do with my cross dominant eyes.  I don’t know if I’d ever have the confidence to fully commit to it.  27 years ago in high school I just couldn’t get 100% confident and every miss I would question it.  I feel like I can control the face really well left handed.  Kind of like Phil michelsons comments on chipping lefty as a righty.

There’s a guy at my club who does this. Really tripped me up the first time I played with him. Pretty good golfer around a 5 index. He gave right handed a shot a few weeks ago and it only last 4 holes.

One of my regular partners does this.  Now in his 70's, played golf his whole life, including college golf, and still plays competitively.  He developed the yips, and converted to lefthanded putting in desperation; it's worked great for him.  He says he's still not as good as he was righthanded before the yips, but he's pretty darn good this way.

If you ever come across a Golfaholics video on YouTube one of the main guys Marco does everything LH nut putts RH. Which in reality is genius cause he has more options. 

 

So it's not rare to swing one way and putt another.

I don’t putt left handed, but I probably could since I’m do everything mixed up.   I write left handed, play tennis right, throw right, play hockey left, bat right, golf right.

I did for a while, even in competition.  I found that I putted about this same either way, which wasn't great.  I had more problems with alignment left handed.  I am naturally left handed but normally play right handed.

I play right handed but putt lefty.  I had the worst yips you’ve ever seen.  Double hit 1’ putts (yes, that’s possible), would freeze over the ball on anything shorter than 5’ for 30+ seconds before I’d take a wild jab at it.  Arms were like rebar. Fought it for 2 years with every grip change, swing thought, drill you could imagine. Finally started knocking short ones in, left handed, with the back of the club.  Someone jokingly said that I should buy a left handed putter, so I did.  Total turn around.  I’m a legitimately good putter now.

 

Short ones felt great immediately, it took a bit of time to get longer distances dialed in.  It’s definitely worth trying, at the very least, it makes the game a lot more enjoyable.

Right hand player, left eye dominant and started developed the worse case of yips 5 years ago after playing golf for over 20 years.  After I had 44 putts in a tournament, bought scotty boomstick and been putting with it since.  However it never really fixed the problem, average around 34, 35 putts a round that playing to a 6 handicap.  Been messing around with armlock, centershaft for last 6 months and finally  purchased a left hand putter today after testing it out in the PGAsuperstore.  It should be here in couple days, please wish me luck!

Have several practice sessions, short putts are a whole lot easier since I feel I can see the putter, the line and hole better together.  Long putt distance control is more difficult, probably need more time to get used to it.  

 

Finally, played my first round yesterday with left hand putter, putt really good, 3-6 ft putts are spot on.  There's one problem keep coming up that hurt my scoring that I never thought of.  After I finished putting and moved on to the tee box, it feel super weird, keep pulling the ball left numerous times which is not my miss.  🤨

Left hand dominant.  I play (and putt) righty.

 

On occasion - typically on straight putts inside 3 feet - I'll take the putter in my left hand only, and hit the putt "backwards" using the back "blade" of my mallet.  It works so often that my playing partner thinks I should just hit short putts that way.

 

It does mess with some people when they see me do it the first time.  Eventually they figure out the gig...
