I’m sure there are a few courses out there that fall somewhere in between elite CC and rundown muni! Haha

Sure, but many of them would be unattainable for most. Where would you draw the line?

Personally I like to see big events on the best courses.

I agree. My post was mostly tongue n cheek. I definitely enjoy watching a tournament more when it’s at a great course that is meticulously maintained. And as we know, those are the $$$ ones 🤷🏼‍♂️ I do get a thrill out of playing a course the guys on tour play. That said, they’re typically quite pricey.

Quite true. And when it comes to finances we all justify pricing differently. I can easily justify private club pricing but will probably never play Pebble and pay over $1k for a round of golf all in.

Absolutely. I don’t belong to a club. But talking about playing courses the tour plays. I have played PB numerous times along with Harding Park and TPC Scottsdale.

Most golfers have disposable income.  Its a pricey hobby.

You might have to save and sacrifice to play PB, but you can get on.  Same with all the high end courses open to the public.

Such is not the case with Cypress Point.

It seems like they’ve shown the  course so much better than they did in the pro exhibition. At least to me, I feel like I’m seeing what makes it so highly ranked.

That being said, wow does it look hard. Does anyone (BNGL) know what the rating and slope is? I’m sure the conditions are extremely difficult right now, but could you imagine playing this as your regular course!? (Although if they want to comp me in, I’ll give it a try!)😀

Should be a wholesale slaughter a la Los Angeles. I am hoping to see more of the course and work out why it is seen as a masterpiece. Local Lad playing for GB&I so rooting for him as I remember him as a very fiery junior.

I’ll never understand the love affair with Seminole. It looks boring as hell. Looks like ever other wannabe links course on the planet. I think it’s only because it is an exclusive country club so people are intrigued. Hard pass for me.

Watching the course in these conditions I can’t help but imagine how absurd Donald Ross would think this setup is with the mounding on and around the greens. So many of these famous layouts seem Mickey Mouse to me with green speeds at 14. And when you have a seaside course where wind is expected the golf becomes farsical. Usga hasn’t learned anything from Shinnecock...

Really enjoyed the contest. Seminole's greens were brutal. Seems to me the difference between top amateurs and a tour pro is how bad their misses are.

Do you think we saw any future super stars, from either side?

That's so hard to predict.  Out of that collection of players some guys are just beginning to unlock their potential while some are at or almost at their ceiling.  Ollie Schneiderjans was the #1 ranked amateur for a while and pegged as a can't miss pro and now he's down on KFT trying to get his Tour card back.  Patrick Rodgers and Jamie Lovemark were similarly highly regarded but neither has been a breakout star - although injuries have played a part a little bit.  The one guy I saw from this WC that strikes me as being that kind of guy is Cole Hammer, but its just a feeling and now he'll probably go on to win 6-7 majors.

Pleasantly surprised with the lack of a beat down that GB&I took. Seminole came across well on TV for me. Better than it did in the exhibition last year. Interesting matchplay course with some absolutely brutal greens.

Interesting, that's comparable to my home course, it had a Walker Cup too, it was so windy they didn't even use the back tees on the front 9 on many of the holes.

To me Seminole is spectacular and far more interesting to watch over other big US course like Sawgrass and the boring wide open courses with no real personality. Quail Hollow is great too, it was a good weekend to watch golf.

helps to have Hogan and Harmon (the original) as big advocates of Seminole.
