Why do they "have to be able to hold" and not actually shot-make and take spin off and run them up? I know the pros absolutely hate it but give me carnage once and awhile. As much as I love a birdiefest give me at least a few tournaments a year where most of the field is over par.

From memory a long time ago, some of the greens are quite elevated, which makes it near impossible to play run up golf.  And then there are the greens that are protected by water.  I guess you would really have to perfect your skipping shots off water routine to play a run up game.  This is not a links course; it is something else (and difficult).

There is a very good golf digest flyover on youtube.

From watching it and reading some course history it does not appear that a run-up shot was ever really intended to be played.  Most greens are perched above the fairway and surrounding sand and marsh.

Kiawah isnt a links course.  Many greens are severely elevated, protected by dunes, or surrounded by water.  You can't "run it up" on a course that it isnt designed to do so.  It certainly won't be a "birdie fest" for crying out loud.

There's a difference between "carnage" and keeping a course playable that allows the best players in the world to actually try and score.  If the wind blows 15-20 every day as forecasted and they don't water the greens pretty heavily, it will be like playing on concrete.  And even the pros will be hitting long irons into a lot of these holes, especially on the back nine.

Finau just got caught off gaurd in presser with question about using a range finder. He says “ wait. We can use those in competition now “.  Lol.  The reporter was speechless.   He follows it up with “ huh. I did not know that “.  😂

The range finder being in use will be interesting to see and what all do they shoot.

I still don't get why they don't allow slope models. I could understand in local comps when they were new as some people maybe couldn't afford the additional cost of a slope model but you can get these things for $150 that will give it to you.

If it's windy whoa boy it's going to be interesting to see how they play this course

Guess one good thing about this event is my ESPN+ app will get some rare usage and because it's in Hawaii I'll get to see some golf being played live in the evenings.

Kiawah is more BBQ than Mai Tai's my man.

But it does sound Hawaiian.  😉 🍻

Looks like my 'dark horse', John Catlin is going off on Thursday, before 8am, with Champ and MacIntyre. I've watched MacIntyre on the Euro Tour, but i know nothing of Champ.

Everyone off tee box #1, the last group at 2:42pm, including the most recent winner, Lee.  Weather forecast favorable each day.  Bring on the wind.
