I have half a lifetime of course ownership.  However I don't need to use it to feel important on the Internet boards.

Thanks for asking.

You should!  Join the crowd of internet Don Quixotes!  At the very least, share your experience so that perhaps you may prevent me from making a big mistake of buying a golf course!

I'll be honest, as much as i like Phil, he was a whiney baby yesterday.....he acts like this is the 1st time he heard a phone go off.....im sure he heard 50000000 during his major win and didnt say a word, but now he let it get to him and is complaining about it......While we all know Phil is a super star and has been for a long time, its hard to fully get behind him on this one.

I did not expect Phil to contend at this US Open for a few reasons (and its only Friday so watch him win now).  He has won The Farmers 3 times here in the past, but none since 2001.  Interesting because his last win in 2001 came right before the South Course was fully renovated by Rees Jones.  And suffice it to say Phil is no fan of Rees Jones work and has said so publicly at times.  Also, when the North Course was renovated about 10 years ago or so Phil put in a bid to do the work but lost the bid to Tom Weiskopf.  So his disdain for Jones' work and the disappointment at losing out on the North Course redesign I think puts a sour taste in Phil's mouth that he can't quite clear out when it comes time to compete.

Between Peacock and the app, USGA sure has partnered with a bunch of dopes when it comes to live streaming.

Unfortunately the whole schedule of sports being off this year has created the issue.  I don't think anything other than the first 2 hours each day would be on peacock but due to the 1 year olympic delay and the NHL still going NBC has to fumble around with everything.

I don't care about the switching around, it is just links...but the sound quality, or long periods of no sound, the choppiness, the layouts...it is just amateurish in this day.  As someone pointed out, look at the Masters at the model.  It's a different event and set of circumstances, but from a technology point of view, entirely replicable.

I'm nitpicking.  I get to watch golf while working...great!

With regard to The Masters vs the rest of the world they have a massive advantage: Static infrastructure.

The networking requirements for these streams is significant and having to build it out for each event is way, way different than having the infrastructure in place.

What?  So untrue.  I can park an 18 wheeler in pretty much any midsize or larger city in the U.S. and have enough bandwidth and access to infrastructure to power all internet traffic for your average EU Country.

Not sure I agree... They're not streaming to us directly from the location. I'm sure the streams are sent to a central hub from the course and serving it to all of us will be done from that central location.

On-sight they're probably producing the video, which is recording the raw video and compressing it, which takes a decent amount of processing power to do it basically real-time. But I'm sure that equipment isn't kept on site, even at Augusta. It's too valuable to lay fallow at one site 51 weeks out of the year.

Networking-wise, they just need enough bandwidth to get the video streams to that central hub, which shouldn't be all that much.

If they're having bad sound quality, intermittent audio dropouts, etc, that's most likely video processing issues rather than network.

My guess is that the poor production quality might be more due to the fact that I don't think NBC is as good at this sort of thing as CBS or ESPN. CBS does the Masters, and in particular they have TONS of experience streaming during March Madness. They may just be better at this than NBC. Not to mention that the Masters is a more valuable property to bring your A game, whereas only true golf junkies are watching featured groups at the US Open.

It's not that serious....I use the "hater" term very loosely, as in any complaining about Tiger.  I don't literally call anyone a "hater".  I don't think I have ever used the word in a real conversation.

Ya...maybe I got that label backwards on that particular bet...my bad.

The post just reminded me of my golf buddy who will bet anything anti-tiger.  It's been profitable.

No worries I’m just intolerant of new terms like “hater” for someone who disagrees with an opinion ha

Agree, also NBC/Comcast are well known cheapskates when it comes to spending $$, witness the downturn in programming on Golf Channel since they took over. The Masters and AGN is willing to spend $$ when they need to.
