That Superbowl opened for Prince. Not the other way around. Lady Gaga's halftime show is the only one I can remember that came anywhere near it in performance. 

 

My takeaways:

1. 50 Cent is now more like 100 Cent. 

2. The performers were all still good live. We didn't have to hear any aging vocals. 

3. No 2Pac appearance, 0/10. 

 

Too bad the Bengals couldn't close it out and re-seal the portal that was opened when Harambe got shot. We're doomed for another few years of altered time-space existence.

IMHO, I also wouldn't care if the half-time show went away, or had UWP on it again. 

 

Little known secret... I was in UWP for a year, it gets a bad rap, but some of it is deserved.  LOL

I remember reading an interview with Prince's manager and he said, "Right before Prince was about to go on I got the word from the NFL that the show had to go on although it was raining. I asked Prince if he wanted me to have them put up a tent or some sort of shelter. He looked at me and said, "no thank you. The only thing you can do for me is pray, that it rains even harder." And it did.

 

I'd always listened to Prince when I was younger but this and his guitar solo at the R&R HOF brought my respect for him as a musician to a whole new level.

 

I have to agree with you about Gaga as well, she worked her butt off on that show and gave a SBHT All-Time Top 3 performance.

Agree there. Prince is the goats grandfather.  And he was better live  than in studio .

Bruno Mars' SB's were amazing. First one turned into a full blown party, and the Beyonce/Coldplay one turned into a "unite the world" moment. Both of them probably sucked all of the life out of the stadium. I'm sure the players wondered what happened to the energy when they came back out. 

 

My wife is the big Bruno Mars fan, but if you have 12 minutes to work with and are confident enough in your talent to spend time playing drums instead of singing, I'm not complaining.

We turned off the TV and had a 3-on-3 tourney in the church's gym. Got finished just in time for the second half. 

 

BTW ... no way Aaron Donald wasn't the MVP ... he's a bad man, and stepped up big time when he needed to.

In the post SB GOAT halftime discussions, haven't noted this one mentioned very often.  Occurring as it did, 5 months after 9/11.  When everyone was still emotional raw and the future uncertain.  Found it to be reverent and cathartic.  IMO, the Lads from Ireland nailed it.  The performance telling the world that we were all in this together.

I am shocked by how many people I’ve talked to that thought it was amazing this year. A friend that is on social media a lot told me the general consensus out there is that it was amazing… Makes me wonder if I watched a different halftime show?! 🤣

Michael Jackson in ‘93 was pretty epic. As mentioned, U2 was another one that stands out.
