Agree. True story. My 13 year old says “ look my group text for basketball team is blowing up …. They hate this halftime show , except Kendrick Lamar “.  I said immediately “ which team does he play for “.  Which got me the biggest 13 year old 3 octave “ what do you mean “ I’ve ever heard. 😂…. He says “ he’s a rapper “. So I say “ can’t be any good. I never heard of him “.  He repeats this to the group text and it explodes.  
 

so the kids hate the “ old people “ rappers they had on.   Cracks me up.

It was so so for me. A lot of the rap I remembered but nothing that screamed Wow!! Cool hearing the songs. Kinda wished Martha stewart made a special appearance

I don't really get the appeal of the halftime show in general. Even if you LIKE the performers....Which i do in this case. I grew up listening to rap so i like all of them

 

Except it never sounds good, and it's always just them rushing through their popular songs , only singing like 1/5th of them.

Not a fan of the genres being performed, so didn't watch it.  It's the only part of the super bowl my wife watches, and she didn't seem overwhelmed.  She agrees with Grumpy that Prince was the best.  But for all of the shows, I do admire the work that goes into them, especially given I'm guessing most of the fans don't really much give a crap.  I did have to laugh watching one of the morning shows this morning (because my wife had it on) where people were proclaiming it the best half-time show ever.  I have no doubt that sentiment was primarily tied to the 'social justice' aspect of the show.  I'm all for social justice, but don't think it was a necessary component, and from the highlights I saw, it definitely didn't ascend to 'best ever' status.

We’re not sure. But.  We think it was Brooks keopka. 
 

you see. There’s a golfer playing now ( poorly ) who looks like the real slim shady.  And then there’s a brown haired rapper who looks like Brooks.  We can only assume they’ve done the old undercover boss swap.  And are trying out each other’s professions.

Growing up in SoCal and grew up with Dre and snoop music I knew they catered too much to the Cali Inglewood theme . They should have catered to a wider audience .

didn’t watch much of the game either it’s amazing how many bandwagon Rams fans came out of nowhere .

The lipsynching really killed it for me. Their mouths weren't even close to matching the backing track in some cases. It's a really tough balance to strike, but I'd never be able to put a lipsynched performance in the conversation with Prince, Bruno Mars (SB 48), etc.

 

I could've done without Mary and 50, and give me a 2Pac hologram or the guy who played him in his biopic, especially with the performance being pre-recorded.

My students this morning were all in agreement that it was the best show if not one of the best, so i played the Prince show and they were all mesmerized...

Part of any live performance for me is displaying talent under the pressure of the lights, stage, audience, elements, etc. I didn't get that this year. Prince's performance was a masterpiece. If he had performed for another hour, they could've cancelled the 2nd half of the game and everyone would've felt like they got their money's worth.

The halftime show is always a complete waste of time - I could pretty much GAF about any artist popular enough to be considered for the gig. But, the Dre appreciation show was certainly much better than Aerosmith or Katy Perry.

 

Also, shout out to @bobfoster for the Perry Como reference. Perry Como rules. Highly underappreciated.

Definitely underwhelming. Snoop and Dre stood out to me. Would have been better if it were just them IMO. Em is a legend, but he needs to stop performing live at this point. Just no 🔥/energy. I don’t dislike Kendrick, but his performance was forgettable at best. I liked the 1st song Mary J performed, but it was clear that she’s past her “best if used by” date. 

*unfair to compare to Prince. He’s just on another level. That said, don’t sleep on Bruno Mars’ SB performances. In 2016 him and Beyoncé made Coldplay wish that they woulda stayed home! And I like Coldplay a lot. Just not a SB act.

I kinda wish they gave Kendrick more time over 50 but that's fine, overall performance/theme fit this Super Bowl well so can't complain. Obviously will have people saying it sucked, people who loved it, can't please everyone these days even if they had 5 different shows.
