Rain Gloves for Humid Weather

Recommended Posts

Apologize if this is has been discussed, I searched but did not see any results.

I live in south Florida, as the humid summer arrives, I get frustrated changing gloves every other hole and going through leather gloves like crazy. I was told to wear a rain glove. Has anyone tried this and are they effective in the humid conditions?

Also, how do you use them? Soak them in water prior to use or just use them as is?

Thanks

I leave it on except for putting. I guess that would help, but interested in the rain glove theory. I assumed you had to get them wet but GoldenChang says just to put it on "as is"?

I have been doing this for many years. Depending on the fit, they can slide a bit on your hand when dry so pre-wetting them before they get sweaty helps with that.

Also, make sure to rinse them out after the round. They get pretty funky with all the sweat.

Quite a few guys in Coastal SC do that in the summer because we are as hot and humid as you guys are. I also do as mudmarlin said take it off between shots. In the summer I rotate between like 3 gloves putting them on the cart top rail to dry out. I also use wrist sweat bands like the tennis players wear and it helps immensely for me

Agree and the before mentioned tennis wrist bands I use get funky as well> I have so many sets of them I just throw them in the washing machine after use. I keep like 3 sets in my bag in the summer

So should I soak it in water before playing or just get it naturally sweaty?

Depends on the glove. Just put your hands under a tap once you have them on if you need to.

Rosin bag....wearing a glove probably makes you sweat more.

I wear a glove for tee shots, and sometimes longer shots, but mostly just off the tee.

Glove stays dry (really hot days I rotate hole to hole with two gloves). I use MCC+4 grips, keep em clean, they stay pretty tacky.

Worked in TX, works in SC.   Got the small rosin bag for bowling.

Also have seen guys spray anti-perspirant on their hands...or use that dry hands gel stuff...not my bag but might be worth a look.

IMO, the hotter it is, the "less" I want to be wearing, so trucker style hats, very thin shorts and shirts, knit shoes...

wish FJ made them in left hand/ right hand only.

Another great thing is they last forever and actually dry out in the wind, even though it might be humid, unlike the leather.

You can also look for the real cheap gloves that come in a white knitted cloth that works well too.

Rosin bag, Gorilla tacky rag and Carpe hand anti perspirant cream off Amazon are always in my bag for central FL summers.

Okay, I may be a bit dense, two questions:

1. If I use a rain glove, do I soak it in water first (or get it we first), or just use them as is (dry)?

2. Guys with Rosin bags, do you rosin bag your golf glove or your bare hand? Does it leave a residue on your grip?

Just trying for the best outcome as the humidity will be here shortly!

Thanks for the replies.

This times a million.

Their "all weather" glove is also just as good for those with "glandular" issues like myself with a little better feel than the strictly rain gloves.

Like Big Stu I used to rotate 3 gloves during a round, but no longer.

I have been very pleased as someone who only played Cabretta leather gloves & would "never" use a synthetic glove.. Fingerten totally changed me.

1.  If you really want best grip, wet it first.  But your hands will get pruney... I'm kinda indifferent to the actual grip. The biggest advantage is taking it off and putting back on when your hand is wet/sweaty

Second whoever said we wish they made just one hand and charged $15

2 gloves last me a whole season and I play a lot!

I've been using a rain glove when it gets above 70 degrees for over 10 years. I sweat enough that by the time a warm up is done and its hot out, the glove is wet and doesnt slip at all. They are also far more durable in my experience, at least the foot joy. I usually keep 2 rain gloves and those will last months before needing replacements, and I only use the left hand FWIW. When it is colder/winter I'll switch to a normal glove but could play the dry rain glove no problem.

For rosin, I rosin my hand...not the glove.  Keeps the hand dry.

The other "dry" stuff out there does the same.  Goal is to keep the hand dry, which in turn keeps your glove from getting wet.   If it's sweat dropping from your arms, towel, sweatband, whatever.  But you'll cut through  leather gloves if you wear them all the time, and don't rotate.  I probably buy 4-6 gloves per year now that I don't wear other than teeing off...

Although I'll admit, I walk much less in summer...and never when it's straight blazin'.   Less sweat that way...

I'm near Tampa, FL and have been using Mizuno rain gloves in the summer for years.  Prior to those I had a few clubs fly out of my hands.  I've tried many rain gloves and found the Mizuno's the best of the bunch.  I use 2 gloves.  One does not work well for me.  I don't sweat a lot but I sweat immediately when I start golfing in the humidity.

After putting them on I'll slightly wet them, but it is not really needed to have them work well.  Wavey once in a while I'll hold on to a soda bottle to wet the glove slightly if needed.

Ky golfer here and it gets stupid hot and humid in the summer…like others I’ve been using FJ rain gloves for several years. I don’t wet them, just put them on and start playing. I do take them off between shots most times and def putting. They will last a very very long time too.

For the rosin bag, just use on your bare hands.  Hit the wrists and back of the hands too.  It will leave a residue on your shirt and grips that can be just brushed away.  Doesn't get the grips slick.  Just clean the grips every other week or so if you are using rosin all the time.

I've tried a few different types of rosin.  The small bowler's size rosin bag was my first go.  Then I found a small plastic bottle of rosin which I preferred a little more.  The best I found though is rock rosin.  The rock rosin leaves a little more tack on the hands.  The inside of your glove will pick up this tack as well and after awhile it will become more sticky inside.  I actually liked that.  Friend of mine bought the huge Marucci baseball rock rosin back.   I have a Rawlings I think.  The Marucci is a bit nicer as it doesn't put out as much rosin but the bag is so big that it won't fit in crown royal bag - just have to keep it loose which means more mess.

The best thing I have ever found though is Carpe.  I put it on my Amazon subscribe and save and every month get a new bottle.  For me, I have to apply Carpe 2-3x a week for 2 weeks then just whenever I play.  Don't know why it requires a build up phase but it does.  This stuff is money for sweaty hands.

FYI I did just order the fingerten gloves to try out as well.

For the FJ ones, I start with them dry and they grip just fine that way. Kind of the same situation as playing in light rain, where I'll sometimes put on a single rain glove.

Some other kinds (the old white cotton ones come to mind) need to be wet to have any grip at all.
