Thin soled Iron with forgiveness for a Sweeper!

If this has been addressed before I apologize, I went through a fitting and was told that since I sweep the ball and almost never take a divot, I would be better served with a iron that has a thinner sole which is completely opposite with what I have been playing! so I'm asking you guys what thinner sole irons are out there with some  forgiveness for a mid capper??? have been looking at rogue pro and apex pro 19 online but open to all brands! Thanks in Advance

The standard Apex would work and give a little more forgiveness than the two you mentioned.

I don't know much about Maltby's rating. But doesn't low vcog mean lower center of gravity? Then, you may focus on thin sole with low vcog. If so, apex pro 2021 can be a good choice? T200 and t100s have low vcog too and they are not chunky at all. P790 model (last model) can be also good? King forged tec and even mim tour can be good too.

Go on eBay for Tour Edge CB Pro Tungsten irons. A

game-improvement model with low tungsten weighting

in head; thus, sole was not all that thick - not really narrow,

but certainly not thick. Plus, a rounded leading edge

prevented unwanted grab on bristly turf.

I've been a picker/sweeper. for 30 years.  Just get a set of blades that look good to you.  Nothing will work better for your type of swing.

Maybe start at a 5 hybrid for long irons - also good for a sweeper.

Ping i525’s would be good.  Apex pros or rogue st pros have a nice thin sole.  Mizuno 223’s are nice.   If forgiveness is important I would look at Titleist t200.  T100 may be thinner but the t200’s are really nice at address and more forgiving than most irons with this thin a sole.

225 plays pretty thin sole bc of the beveled edge. Looks smaller then the i525 to me

Only on WRX would somebody say Mizuno Pro 225's are "thick".  LOL.

That's the opposite of my experience, especially with mid and long irons.

Sweeper here that gets along great with V sole. Srixon 785 or ZX7.

FWIW i barely take a divot and have played everything including G series Pings. Granted it makes a difference but even the pickiest or pickers can still play almost anything out there

Maybe so.  I don’t have measurements or anything.  The 225’s are great and I still may get a set but they just seemed to have a fairly wide sole when I hit them.  The 525’s seemed quite thin.

They are my favorite iron released this year but they are a bit thick in the sole imho.

Seems like a thin sole is the opposite thing you'd want as a sweeper (which I am also but trying to get better about it).

I played a round with the P790's (2019 model) yesterday and was pretty impressed with how they handled thin strikes.  Other than that I really didn't like them much though... I'm better off with my MP33's or 718 AP2's for some reason.

I'm a sweeper and I've always gotten along better with thinner soles as long as they have a friendly leading edge.  Low COG is very important too. 

 

I really like my Maltby TS2 irons.   Very mid-handicap friendly.

You definitely want thinner soles as a sweeper.  That is 100% me to a "T" and anything thick is not a good result.  Mizuno Pro 225's are super forgiving for what they are and the soles are relatively thin.  No they're not blades thin but they are most certainly on the thinner side of "standard".  They are the best set of irons I've ever had.

Maltby TS1 has a really nice sole profile. Overall the iron is compact, but it's got some tech and forgiveness

I’m not so much of a sweeper anymore but when I was a thin sole helped so much.  Thick soles just didn’t provide any help for me as I was in no danger of digging.  It made flush contact more difficult for me.  Some people seem to really like wide soles even if they are a picker, but I’m not sure what the advantage would be if you are not taking a divot.

Finding narrow sole irons that are forgiving is going to be a challenge.  Most forgiving irons have wider soles, blunt leading edges with more bounce designed for the masses - diggers.  Sweepers are somewhat a minority, like left-handed players. LOL

 

Narrow sole is typically made far better players, using Muscle back blades or player CBs like T100.  I am a sweeper and play relatively narrow sole 620MB & 620CB irons.  Camber is minimal front to back, heel to toe, and have a slightly sharp leading edge with as low bounce as I can find. 

 

You might have to grow into what you find.

Sweeper/picker here. Always played wide soled irons for “forgiveness”. Problem is most of those irons also include too much offset for my liking. Switched to 921 HM Pros this year. What a difference!! I absolutely love these irons. Thinner soles than I’ve played in the past, and much less offset. Strike the ball better than ever. They’re such a joy to hit. I’ll never go back to wide irons again.

I don’t know much about 620 but I stand by my comments on the 225’s.  The 221’s had a fairly thin sole.

Sweeper here. Went to the t100s this year from Srixon z585 - night and day difference.

 

T100s just gets through the turf so well for me.

T100S here as well, with a T200 3 iron. The 100's work really well for my sweep swing and they're really forgiving, too.
