Ping i230 pic

As other have stated, I’m guessing the toe screw has something to do with perimeter weighting, as shown below with the G425.

Think it also has attributes to MOI as well

I agree. I’m no engineer, but the way I understand it, the more perimeter weighting = more MOI.

Looks like they are going in a slightly new direction - replacing the inserts with some kind of hollow-body "Speedfoam" construction. 

 

Ping has some experience with this construction, obviously...

 

But, I'd give it a couple of iterations before they hit on the perfect design.

 

i250's (or whatever) will be the club to buy.

In the first post of this page, you said roughly that you were concerned about the toe screw because you thought it meant hollow - which isn't the case - and then you said you'd wait for the "i250".

 

I don't think people are upset you don't like the design. I think it's annoying to people that you characterised it as a product that should be skipped while at the same time incorrectly identifying the feature you most dislike, all while doing a "prove me wrong" during a speculative period on a speculative thread.

 

People get sensitive about this stuff because many of us know it pretty well.

I'm sorry @karstens_ghost. I really, really, really apologize. You are right. I've "roughly" said everything you accuse me of. The stupidity and audacity of my statements certainly deserves to be pointed out at every opportunity.

 

After spending more than a decade on WRX and over 40 years in the game, it's clear that I still have a lot to learn. Maybe through a great deal of work and self-reflection, I may - someday - be able to forward an opinion that isn't so stupid and offensive. One can only hope.

 

Thank you for taking the time. With folks like you supporting me, perhaps there is hope.

 

In the meantime, I'll self report to the mods and ask for a 2 week ban to cool off. I clearly need it.

My shop shared that Ping is having their Sales Meeting this week.  Lot's of hype last week with all the pics and some initial player reaction to the irons.  Dead quite this week... I realize Ping does things their own way but it 'feels' like if they are trying to build up the excitement next week or two would seem like great timing to officially release info.  I'm hoping others can share their insights as we have a ton of folks with Ping connections on the forum. 

Fingers crossed for soon and that this launch goes better than what Mizuno faced during their launch/ransomware fiasco.

They're not a replacement of the iBlade , but the i210. But they're probably exactly the same. 🙄

They're not out yet and I don't believe Ping has released any information. I wouldn't call the toe screw and a backplate "the most important features", albeit you are only referring to the looks of each.  They'll be larger and more forgiving than the IBlade.  Once they're released , I'm sure your questions will be answered.

Ping is still an engineering company at heart. They're not blind to aesthetics, but they are a definite back seat. That's why I'm not deviating from them.

 

The only thing I'm waiting on is whether MMTs will be stock. If they are, I can buy them here in NZ without much problem. If they're not stock, I'll have to get them made in the US because it'll be vastly cheaper.

 

I always assumed you lived in the States. NZ must have some nice courses. Having said that MMT would be a real nice stock option if offered. I’m hoping the turnaround on the irons will not be too long 🙏

 

Going to be in Phoenix starting August for a few months because of work and I’m taking my clubs. I’m hoping Ping will start fittings for these while I’m there to compare with my i210

Is there any chance the i230 Stewart Cink was playing at “The Open”  is not the final product?  I agree with comment……things have gone dark on this club.

Definitely the final product. If you can remember the Blueprint release, we seen photos of them like 8 months in advance of the official release.

I suppose I'm in the minority but I don't find the i230 to be very attractive. The back cavity looks very unfinished, the toe screw is rather unsightly, and the shaping of the toe at address looks strange to my eye. Of course, it all comes down to personal preference and performance but I'm not in any rush to upgrade my i210's based on what I've seen.

Yes these are prototypes. Released in September.
