Ok…

Does anyone actually watch LIV yet? Or is all their attention based on who they’re going to buy next?

No one watches LIV and the PGA Tour keeps sinking.

And now I’m about to lose some yards because of their ball rollback?

Instead of growing the game they’re all destroying it.

Please tell me I’m wrong here. I’d like to be wrong.

Post of the year.  Well said.

I admit I haven’t read many posts in this thread… just the last couple pages.

I feel like I missed something.

LIV already has 12 teams I thought, all with captains.

so which team and captain are going away to make room for Rahm and his team?

Nonr...this will be team 13...room for another, I believe.

"grow the game"

Every single person who switched to LIV has acted out the required script to claim they want to "grow the game"when factually all they have grown is their own bank account.

Is LIV "growing the game" with its television reach? No. CW is hard to even find on your local cable network, and their numbers fall somewhere below ratings for the Roseanne Barr Show repeats from 1994.

Is LIV growing the game with the tournament attendance numbers it draws? There are bigger attendance numbers at many high school football games in the US than at any LIV golf tournament.

If we're being honest here, golf was, and remains, a game for rich, mostly white guys at private country clubs or very expensive public golf courses.

Arnold Palmer grew the game.

Tiger Woods grew the game.

Everyone else has grown their own bank account first and foremost.

Cut the bullxxxx, John. You're not that smart and we're not that dumb.

Varner said it was always about the money, nothing more. For him and everyone else.

Professional golf is in a very dangerous place from a big picture perspective.

LIV hasn't been able to gain any television or in-person traction in the US which remains the world's biggest golf market by a wide margin.

As more and more big name players take the money and move to LIV, the PGA Tour will find it increasingly difficult to maintain existing title sponsors, or attract new sponsorship money. Television broadcast money will inevitably begin to pull back. Purses won't be sustainable.

Five years from now, we may see golf only on the Golf Channel which is not readily available to all parts of this country and/or world.

Golf today is a minor sport when compared to the NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL/Soccer behemoths. For all the talk of "growing the game", I fear it is more likely being strangled ... possibly to death (as a broadcast sport).

So, do you think that they'll release their television ratings next year with this new employee.....? 😎

True. If anyone responsible for growing, or at least maintaining golf as a broadcast sport had been paying attention, they would know they are facing a major problem, largely self-inflicted.

Golf has always been a niche broadcast sport at best. The Tiger era was a bubble, but this is more than reverting back to the mean.

Personally and selfishly I can’t say I really care about the broadcast aspect. I play golf versus watching golf every day and twice on Sunday. I’ll watch majors on DVR in off hours, but if I have live golf on from such hair-raising exciting tournaments like the Valspar or the Greater Hartford Open, it’s just as something on in the background while I do something else.

12 million barrels a day and currently $100 a barrel, these guys do whatever they want...  $450 mil for a golfer over 3+ years?  More than what $2 billion sunk into this league....?  Crazy to think that it is nothing to them, but it really is.  It appears they are winning, but agree with others here that golf fans are losing.

If this means he can't play on the European Ryder Cup team this could be a win for the US team.  I pay no attention to LIV anyway and I suppose will eventually forget about JR too.

I think we should forget about the Ryder Cup, but start moving towards a PGA vs LIV Cup.

The Ryder Cup is old, anachronistic and tattered, it had started to become stale.

But if it's PGA vs LIV, we get to see the global players be involved and even the PGA tour can have international players. A win-win

I am forever going to be surprised that Rahm has given up events like The Memorial, API, Players and the Genesis to play 3-day team events in Singapore, Nashville and a location to be named later, when he’s already worth $100+ million.

The FOX interview was painful; he didn’t even look like he was buying what he was trying to sell.
