Dropping Bryson is the best news I've heard all year - good things ahead for Cobra

Don’t know if they’ve dropped him as much as the deal ended. Sounds like the door isn’t completely closed moving forward.

Who is this guy? He kinda looks like someone that played the PGA tour a couple years ago. Only not as bulky.

He has to be a nightmare for equipment companies. He isn't doing anything for Cobra anymore. I see a parting of ways.  They've signed a couple new players recently.

Pretty sure Mav is an only child. But you're right he's fine either way.

Everything else he does is based on ego so why not

Well because he beat the best players in the world on one of the most challenging venues? Safe to say he has performance in mind when he’s making equipment decisions. And safe to say few of us know enough about the facts to judge him critically

Maverick is one of four sons. He said when he got on Tour, his dad helped him the first year and after that he had to support himself.

Gotcha, I thought I saw a Golf Channel piece on him and heard he was an only child. I stand corrected, I do remember hearing him saying that his Mom was harder on him than his Dad.

I actually liked him for a while because it takes serious guts to build such a unique game and back it up.

Misunderstood? Bryson got a reported $125 million signing bonus to join LIV. Literally Tiger’s on course career earnings from the stroke of a pen. How does he celebrate? My man went to Instagram later that month, I kid you not, and posted an ad for an Accelerator Island Guava energy drink, while on his private jet. He might be super nice (heavily debatable from many accounts) but this dude is a human incarnate of the XE1 wedge ads, I’m over it.

So you dont like him because he is doing what just about everyone of us would do in the same situation?

I judge by his actions and what he says. Plus he’s not really competing anymore

I liked BD when he first came on tour for sure. Did things different and outside of the normal PGA realm.

I also copied his 1-plane swing and for me it was a big improvement at the time. Had been stuck around 12hcp forever with the conventional 2-plane swing. After playing his swing for a while got my hcp down to 8 and it now hovers at 6ish. I also use the Jumbomax Ultralight XL grips and hold them in my palms. So much easier to control the face of the club.

With all that being said I do think he is pretty childish at times. Especially with the rope incident and some of the things he says and does. Seems like he hangs out with a bunch of kids younger than him as well, maybe that explains it.

Anyway he is different but kudos to him for making it work. I do miss watching him in the tournaments though.

Not sure why this is a big deal… very common thing now, seeing pros testing other stuff and even gaming it temporarily. Rory with vokeys for example. Also bryson is probably the most misunderstood person on here, its amazing the amount of dislike people have for him, when if they met him or knew him, they would think differently.

It’s not him trying other clubs. EVERY pro does that. However, it’s a whole different matter when an staff guy goes to the media complaining how bad the equipment he’s playing is. I’ve never met the guy, but it’s not a good thing to trash the company who’s paying you millions.

Cobra is in a situation w/ Bryson.  I'm sure they aren't getting along w/ him much these days now that he's on the LIV tour but he's the only person that can push the one length clubs.  I wonder if they are going to drop him at some point and/or the one length irons?

While i’m sure all OEM’s would prefer their staffers to be on Tour instead of LIV - i doubt that’s the cause of contention here. Their relationship with Bryson was rough early on, i mean he publicly said their equipment (the driver) sucks which caused some heated back and forth awhile back

I doubt Bryson will have any trouble finding another equipment sponsor if he is dropped. I mean hell, OEM’s will sponsor pretty much anyone that can swing a club and has a substantial social media following

Whether love him or hate him, golf is more fun with a hero and a villain in a tourney.
Rickie was Cobra for a min and he is still a great company man, just needs to make a comeback like Spieth with that new swing.
Cobra/Puma is more of a younger athletic type, after looking at the OGWR, I think Tony Finau fits that’s bill and can be their marquee player.

Tony tried leaving Ping before and it didn’t work. I don’t see him moving anytime soon.

I would be completely shocked to ever see Tony leave Ping. Ping for whatever reason tends to be the most brand loyal group on tour when it comes to their drivers and irons and Tony is no exception to that.

I would love to see Bryson go back to his amateur setup. He used to Taylormade woods and Edel everything else to win his US Am, that was one of the coolest WITB's I have ever seen.

You can easily tell brand popularity and excitement for the new releases by just looking on this forum.  The Stealth 2 thread has 55 pages.  The Paradym and G430 threads are over 40 pages.  The Aerojet only has 12.  Bryson not playing the Aerojet does not help that situation.  Don’t know if Fowler or Thompson have put the Aerojet into play either.

And when Cobra’s biggest signing this year is Gary Woodland?  Totally fails in comparison to TM signing Nelly Korda and Brooke Henderson (which gives you some indication of where TM’s target for growth in market share is headed.

Not certain about Thompson but I know Rickie has it in play.  He had the Aerojet in both the RS and GG videos.

pretty funny how people take these things and try to use it to slam a company about there equipment not being "good enough"....there own staffers are not as loyal to "there" companies as some on here are towards (insert clubs in bag company).....I have said it before, i work in pro sports and our players are constantly trying other equipment out, and the fact is that it is all pretty close to the same tech/specs with minor personal pref.....question now becomes for ANY company to sign bryson becomes how much do we want to go down the rabbit hole in R&D, and are we ready to mass produce OL clubs, because it is 100% happening.

Because their stuff does what it's supposed to do. I've never been able to get into Ping's aesthetic but have a ton of respect for their engineering. No one has anything as good as the hydrophobic coating they came up with. Unprecedented wet grass performance.

P.S. TM gives substantial weekly bonuses for driver play & that's a big reason a lot of uncontracted players play their drivers. They might not be better but they're not worse than the other options, so why not take the cash?

Bryson is a total basket case. It really has nothing to do with the stealth or that cobra doesn’t make good equipment. It’s about him. He has just forgotten he is a pro golfer and wants to be an influencer or something.. his game is terrible now..

go do some more speed training smart guy.

This doesn't surprise me. The aerojet release was a very odd one. Good clubs, but we saw a pic of the new driver in August or so here. There was zero fanfare. Zero marketing. Zero anything. Demos showed up at retailers and that was it. Combine that with dechambeau going to liv and no one watching him play now and their biggest capable player is basically MIA.

Tea leaves say cobra is in trouble...or reorganizing their marketing model.

Cobra is doing great actually. Bryson.. not so much.. he has lost it. Lost his game, lost his focus, lost his mind..
