Yep. The only real answer.

Make sure it's a round patch so that it captures the true artistic aesthetic of the perfect circle! spacer.png

If this was going to be their response to negative public response, why didn't they photoshop the changes first.  Then they wouldn't have expended labor and materials to install then de-install. I suspect one of the tweed jackets is getting a new paver path through their garden.

Because cocaine

Lol! Sorry, not really, just always wanted to say that

Well, could be a few things..

Maybe left hand didn’t know what the right was doing. Like, a change was agreed to, it looked good on paper, they got started, then it looked so horrendous, somebody leaked that pic, and the rest of the R&A was like, “Egads! Have you gone mad?”

All I know is, if they do remove it, they lose any chance for the Auld Grey Toon to have its own version of 16 at Augusta National.

Maybe, but the tweed jackets tend not to do anything quickly (except playing their morning foursomes).  These changes have probably been discussed ad nauseum for the past 5 years at least. I'm going with the systemic hubris conjecture.

Goodness that’s even worse.  It was a quaint little stone bridge.  A symbol of utilitarian need.  That’s how or why it framed in my mind as great.  A small collection of stone that had took probably a mere couple days to build , and yet had lasted centuries with regular use.  7 centuries .  For Pete’s sake. Cardinal rule of architecture.  “ don’t stick doodads on a thousand year old structure. “. Amazing how dumb humans can be.

tripling it’s length is just a sin.  Is like taking a 65 GT350R Shelby and adding air conditioning and and automatic trans.  Literal sacrilege

except that for many years , the bridge did have a paved area/path leading up to it  . this is  going back to  more like what it used to be , not adding stuff to it . And its  way better than the crap artifical turf there before

Could be but as @mat562 said above,

You get these characters who get delusional and go off the reservation.

We think the “tweed jackets” are all organized and logical, but any membership has its quirky, cooky, types, and the dynamics can get out of hand, egos prevail, just like any mix of personalities thrown together.

The maintenance department was just sitting on their thumbs because it's winter.  Must give them something to do...

I read the statement put  out on Twitter too.  I’m sure the path was longer and more utilitarian.  Not a Disney land  photo op circle ( pardon the circle smash Ferguson ).

if they wanted to take 400 year old accounts and restore the sheep path.  Fine.  That’s not what we’re seeing.

You've got a point.  It does look like a walk-off designed by committee.

Dollars to donut holes a member or couple of them did this without full approval.  ( better to seek forgiveness than permission ).
