Goodness that’s even worse.  It was a quaint little stone bridge.  A symbol of utilitarian need.  That’s how or why it framed in my mind as great.  A small collection of stone that had took probably a mere couple days to build , and yet had lasted centuries with regular use.  7 centuries .  For Pete’s sake. Cardinal rule of architecture.  “ don’t stick doodads on a thousand year old structure. “. Amazing how dumb humans can be. 
 

tripling it’s length is just a sin.  Is like taking a 65 GT350R Shelby and adding air conditioning and and automatic trans.  Literal sacrilege

This is probably a structural engineering issue . Better than watching it slowly sink away so they reinforced it .

If that is the case, then they should come out and say it.  It wouldn't make things much better, but at least there would be a real reason for it. 

 

I don't know how you can do it without telling people they can't walk anywhere, but only golfers playing a round taking a picture might be a better solution.  The number of people that would run out to the bridge form the street in between groups teeing off is disgusting, frankly.  As blade said, everyone having a camera in their pocket.... and then having the idea that the rest of the world *needs* to know about it has ruined many a good thing.
