Looks are always subjective, no arguing that. What I find amusing is that someone will completely dismiss an iron based off of one picture, and one angle on a message board. WRX'rs are a finicky bunch...

You are… polite 😁

It looks to me like a Hovland special.

They couldn’t get the i230s to work for him, and this looks like a sleeker, forged i210 evolution with their new design incorporating the toe section which is now common on their clubs.

Both Hovland and the grumpy one have hit some stunning shots with them this week.

Looks like I’m getting another set of s55’s

i wish they’d come out w non-hollow irons again (I’m assuming these have a screw on the toe)

They're most likely at the same time not hollow and do have the tungsten screw in the toe.  That's just a way for them to shift the COG away from the hosel. If you look at the ZX7's they have the same toe plug (in a different form, just doesn't have the screw).  Hell the S55 has a giant mismatched shade of metal on the toe.  But if you hate a plug that you can't see at address that much then you most definitely don't have to get the irons. haha.  But this looks like a solid 1 piece iron with some tech.

This just seems like something theyve been lacking since the s line tbh.  They have enough players playing the i210 because they struggled to get a players iron that actually worked for them. I59, Iblade, etc.  They've tried to hit on it a couple of times and have yet to land something that tour players like. This seems to be the one that they got somewhat right.

It’s not the screw … I love toe weighting … it is the hollow I don’t do well with

I think i210 and i230 are some of the best looking irons available but I think these look bad :classic_laugh:

Funny how we are completely opposite

i230 are basically shovels. Probably the biggest soles I have ever seen on a “tour” iron. Gross

these new ones seem to look better

It depends on what you mean by hollow.  The i210/230 arent technically hollow body irons. They're players cavity irons with foam in the cavity.  The S55's technically have the exact same thing, they have that elastomer in the cavity with toe weighting. Its just in a much smaller package. That seems like what most people want from them anyway.  Is that smaller players iron, but with all of the other benefits of the i210/230.

I never even thought about this but I’m wondering if the s stands for the S series. I could see it being more of a continuation of that line. Certainly looks the part. More of a tech filled players iron.

they are like the forged anser irons they had in the past, forged cavity players iron. Doesn’t replace iblade/s series

These look more compact to me than that.  Obviously they're forged, but they've been playing more with that with their players iron lines like the i59. This looks exactly the same size as the iblade to me, maybe a little bigger than the s line. But we'll see how it works out.

It looks like every other modern day Ping CB, but the shiny segment on the back is a gaudy and unnecessary bit of frippery.

In a few pictures I've seen the soles do look pretty shovelish, but I played with a guy the other day who had a set of the i230s and I just don't recall them looking as exaggerated in person as they do in some photos. They looked pretty normal iron-y

Have you seen them in person or just online?

I want irons from Ping that feel and perform like the 55’s.  The 55’s, and irons like 919T, for me, are far superior to irons like blueprints and p790’s and t-mb’s on the slightly thin miss

They look pretty reasonable in Bryson's bag, maybe slightly larger soles than other OEMs but unless Bryson has a special grind on these soles I'd struggle to call them shovels

Contact who’s generally relatively well informed on Ping said that their product strategy is shifting (back?) to distinct products lines:

interesting bit: in one of the decks he saw, T line target group is “plus handicap”, S 0-5, I 5-10, G 10+.

I think a few of the OEMs seem to be offering more strict (honest?!) handicap recommendations. When I was looking at Cobra CBs the website recommendations put me off, and were quite hurtful to my fragile old ego.

The pics in this thread are the first I’ve seen of this iron. I’ll hold out judgement until I can see them for myself . In the meantime I’ll keep hitting their MB predecessors.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

I’ve played iblade for years, these are def bigger from the pics. Head is bigger and sole is bigger. I owned the anser forged irons as well and these look nearly the same from address pic.
