Is Chris DiMarco Completely delusional?

I feel like it makes more sense to ELIMINATE the Social Security tour PGA Tour Champions than dump more money into it. In the leaner, meaner PGA Tour...I would hope the private equity folks would cut this thing immediately. Honestly would much rather take the tv coverage that PGA Tour Champions gets and throw it over to the KFT but maybe I am in the minority on this? What say you all?

Chris Dimarco has to know that the PGAT Champs is a branch of the PGAT. I'm pretty sure that the TV coverage is included in the media deal. Don't quote me though.

Conventionally, you make money when people want to buy your product.  LIV changed that by just throwing scads of money around before people actually wanted to buy the product.  And people still aren't buying it.

I'm not sure the PIF wants to get in on the senior tour.  There's a market for the senior tour, and to be honest, it's probably more popular than LIV as far as attendance and TV viewers.  But I think the Saudis view it as a minor league and they want to be involved in the major leagues. Dimarco wants some of that easy money they're wasting, and I can't blame him.  Unfortunately, he was born a few years too early.

I understand what DiMarco is saying, I just don’t know why he’s saying it, they’re off the cuff musings ……no thought before speaking.

Most everyone would “like more money”, but coming up with non sensical comments, ignoring the realities of how things work is just plain illogical, and irresponsible when talking to the media.  Doesn’t look good on him.

It’s like the weather, everyone complains about it, but no one does anything about it.

Everyone wants a free lunch I guess.

And I suppose with someone like Chris DiMarco, he cant earn his money anywhere else.

Sponsors need to put more money in for his wish to come true. Do sponsors want to put bigger money into the Champions Tour?

LIV is a totally different thing. It runs at a massive loss. Its not a "business model" in any sense.

He was asked about LIV and the money golfers were playing for on the Golf Subpar podcast, and comparing what they're playing for to what he played for when he was on the PGA Tour and what they play for now on the Champions Tour.

I listened to his interview on the podcast and i think the written version comes off a little more ?crass/greedy? than the actual interview.  I certainly do not know his intent, but he did say a few things similar to that while laughing and in the midst of one of Sleeze's cringey joke add ons.  Again - intent/perception are individualized. As a whole, he did not come off great to me, but giving him some benefit of the doubt.

I think the PGA Champ is in a position to "hold on" for the next few years until a ceratin person turns 50 and doesnt feel guilty for riding in a cart......We know Tiger drives the golf viewership market in most cases, but am very curious to see if his Champ Tour appearances actually make it a significantly more viewed endeavor.

Big T imo will just play the majors and especially Senior US Open and THE Open.  But hey that’s fine by me.  Any chance to see him play is great.  As far as DiMarco no shame in wanting or asking for more money albeit it is delusional.

Don't get me wrong, I like watching the Champions Tour, but I have always felt the Champions Tour is nothing really but an exhibition, a chance to see the great players of years past.  People will pay some for that.   Other than golf nuts like WRXers, nobody really wants to see a bunch of ex club pros fighting it out for the coveted Greater Fort Doge Invitational Championship, presented by Viagra....

Can't hurt to ask.  Worked for women's basketball.   I enjoy most womens sports but WNBA and NCAAW are borderline unwatchable.  Golf, tennis, soccer are all great.

No matter what settings I put in my sports apps womens bball is always right there.  They kept asking amd they got it.

What possible motivation would Tiger have to play old man golf?

Apparently he has some motivation. Has stated that he’ll ride a cart when he plays on the champions tour.

p.s.  Because carts are allowed for all players on the Champions tour - doesn’t need an ADA exemption- which he says he won’t apply for so he can ride on the PGAT

Don’t really understand his gripe or when other sports say athletes regardless of gender should be compensated the same. I’m pretty sure age isn’t a restriction for qualifying for PGA events, so go and qualify in some events and make some big money. I’d love to see a bunch of olds and ladies qualify for a real event from a 7500+ yard par 71 and compete for the big purses!

Well for one, having all the USGA hardware in his trophy collection, the US Senior Open is a goal of his.

Also maybe to get reps before majors, he'd rather play 54 holes and ride around in a cart to keep sharp?

Dimarco is a little delusional.  Those guys on the Champions tour are on the twilight of their careers and far from their prime. If LIV existed 20 years ago, they would love to snatch up Dimarco but let's face it, the big money goes to those who are in the prime of their careers.

Would you rather pay your hard earned money to see Wayne Gretzky in the 1984 Stanley Cup Finals or him in some old timer's game in 2024?

I personally Prefer the Champions Tour because it's a lot of guys I grew up watching and their game is more inline with mine at my age. I also agree let Tiger come over or join and the Purses will go up along with it's popularity, which brings me back to the PGA? Personally I have lost interest and find myself Watching the Tour Champions & LPGA more and more, cant wait to see the impact he has.
