Is Chris DiMarco Completely delusional?

yes and no.

Yes he's full of it that nobody is coming to pay them more

He's correct to be worried. I predict the champions tour is at Legends of LPGA level in few years. The PGA will drop it and it will be a handful of charity events, stuff like the Senior US Open stays.

If it doesn't turn over money (I doubt it does a ton), nobody is gonna save it

Really not sure if the Champions Tour deserves more money in purses but at least I can recognize the names competing when I do watch it.

depends on your definition of a few years. the champions tour has been around for longer than alot of people would have thought after jack arnie and watson washed through.

Someone has to pay for it. I have a hard time thinking it pays for itself

Like any business, there can be things overvalued and undervalued. I would say for the longest time, PGAT as a whole undervalued its business and it's workforce for the product that was delivered. LIV swooped in and decided to take advantage of this situation by drastically overpaying for the product but in turn trying to buy a seat at the table and market share. Which looks like with the pending merger, they will have done that. The Champions tour though, I would argue, completely lacks the demand of the equivalent PGAT product. You have athletes in their prime, the best in the world, competing on the PGAT. Same cant be said for the Champions Tour, by design. Only sport in the world that has a professional senior division, dont fact check me too much on that but for major sports or close to you dont have any of that. It's just slicing the pie of viewership and interest way too thin. Just because you can, doesnt mean you should. Now if this is actually a net positive for the PGAT enterprise as a whole, fine. And if there was room to grow purses, have at it. Maybe we could bring back some of the sponsors that stepped away when PGAT came with bigger asks for purses and commitments, like Honda for example. Don't know if you would be getting a purse bump though, just a switch out of sponsors. And to think that LIV should just buy the Champions Tour aswell and increase purses just for something to do, I dont know if the Champions Tour as a bargaining chip is gonna be valued at what DiMarco thinks it is.

Last year the Champions Tour had approx.28 tournaments and a major sponsor named Charles Schwab. Banks and business services love the senior circuit.

I don't have the number in front of me but I'm willing to bet that they turns a profit every year and can support the $330K first place check given out weekly.

I don't think that the Champ Tour is going anywhere soon. The other 54 hole SA Champ tour won't be profitable for another two years/🤣

Dont know many pro athletes over 50 that can play their sport and make potentially $300k for a weekend of work.  Want make more, hit the Monday qualifier and see if you make the bigger bucks.

Ain’t many 50 plus year olds playing competitive football, basketball or baseball.  There’s no market for it.  Golf is a special sport.

Haha. I just watched the podcast at the gym yesterday afternoon.  Was very entertained.  Uncut, unfiltered, good ol’ golf conversation and great stories.  Have a listen and have a laugh folks, it will certainly (at least hopefully) clear up some of the delusion in this thread.

Although I never liked/disliked the guy (running neutral to me), after his rant, I classify him  as an idiot.  And what would LIV do with Champions Tour?...really, you think they're going to give you a big salaried contract/buy-in?...they might just ask, what have you done lately?  Sorry, but the reason you don't have big purses on the Champions tour is because it doesn't draw big crowds or gets the attention of fans like the PGA Tour.  But since you're allowed to continue playing after 50 on a tour where there's no cut (most tournaments), only 3 days, I believe you get to ride a cart if you need it, the food is good.... consider it as a retirement bonus after your main gig.  And if you want to make more, then play better.  Just ask B. Langer.  Geesus, what a tool.

Thanks. Seems like significant growth in earnings potential for retired guys.

Demarco needs to work harder, not ask for the golf welfare program.

NFL champions tour would be wild. I'm not talking flag either, get them out there fully suited. Geriatric Ray Lewis lighting up Brett Favre would be must see TV

It seems DiMarco was being facetious and using hyperbole.

My mother used to tell me, when I was a child, “don’t use sarcasm with children.”

From this forum, and other places, I’ve learned “don’t use wit with golfers.”

Glib

The delusion comes from the guys in this thread that took those statements seriously 🤣

Brett Farve does need the $$ and positive story right now.... Im sure he could convince Jerry Rice to put the full body CopperFIt to play.
