Greg Norman Shark Experience

Recommended Posts

Norman, ever the entrepreneur, is coming out with the “Shark Experience” next year. It’s a touchscreen on golf carts that has GPS, video, and audio over Verizon to make golf more fun, especially for younger people. It costs $50,000 to get this done to a course’s golf carts. Golfers can pay for the typical GPS, play music through it, get golf tips, and watch programming like Norman’s golf tips and maybe live TV one day.

Norman has had an incrediblly successful career as an entrepreneur. Yet I wonder about this one. Are millennials going to pay extra for this? Why do I need the “Shark Experience” to listen to music when you can just buy your own Bluetooth speakers and my phone usually gives me enough volume already? Isn’t one drawback keeping millennials from golf the pace of the game? An additional video and sound device on a cart is only going to prolong the round. And most of the courses that are high-end enough to use this already have their own GPS screens. The only thing I like about the Shark Experience is that you can stream live TV. I wouldn’t mind watching a big game as I play, but to me that’s the only real use of Norman’s idea. I predict a big failure.

“Equipped with an HD-touchscreen that streams music, live sports and highlights, premium videos and golf tips from the Shark himself.” [sounded like live video isn’t going to be available for some time and some courses can’t download the data from Verizon overnight because many cart barns can’t get good reception if they are below ground]

“CNN headlines, ESPN sports radio, even cooking programming is all your fingertips, which helped keep my mind off the tee shot I just hooked into a palm tree.” [Your phone can do all of this already; Norman’s idea to bring more people to golf is to give them cooking tips as they play?]

LOL, on another site I got all kinds of s*** when I suggested that every Golf Cart should have a tablet for this kind of thing.

Now, of course, the same people are saying what an awesome thing this is! Ha!

I think it's cool, as long as people use it as an aid, and not watch PXG Ads on YouTube while they are supposed to be playing their shots.

Worst idea ever. Maybe not in a business sense, as it will probably make money, but in a I love the serentity of golf sense this idea sucks. I bet there will be violence eventually related to it.

I have never even considered packing heat to a golf course, but if I now have to listen to not only music, but other media products on the course, I will be forced to start shooting people in the face.

We hear alot about the money he has made from what we can assume were good business decisions. I am sure that he has made some bad ones along the way too. I hope this is a bad one that doesn't take off. It is not good for the game, just a gimmicky thing that is meant to appeal to the wealthy Asian market if nothing else.

I put this in the same category as polio, candy cigarettes for children and getting involved in a ground war in Asia.

I loved those things when I was a kid. I'd smoke on them til they were gone. You weren't allowed to crunch them.

BTW _ I've never smoked a real cigarette in my life and I'm 62.

Wait, what? Candy cigarettes aren't a gateway drug lol? :)

"Shark Experience" ????????

At the RTJ Trail they got rid of cart GPS because it's expensive and no longer

needed as most people have their own devices these days.

This sounds like an idea whose time has passed. I predict failure on this one.

Personally I want to get away from all that junk when I'm golfing. I don't need music, videos, tips, television when I'm out on a golf course. Heck I hate that I even have my cellphone in my bag when I'm golfing. I want it to be me and nature, period.

Well thats because youre a real adult and a real man. Generation ADD need to check their phone between every shot... it disgusts me when i see it. These things are right up their alley

Greg Norman - so revolutionary, this will change EVERYTHING!

Yawn. I expected more but honestly, as much as I respect his golf, I'm kind of glad it's less. Chrissy must not have found him "innovative".

There’s really nothing innovative in bringing together technology into one device that we already have so that we can get Greg Norman’s cooking tips. “The speakers took months to design that aim the sound inside the golf cart.” Wwwhhhhooaaaaa! Why Verizon jumped in on this is beyond me. I guess they haven’t had to invest much yet.

OK, there is one Shark experience I would pay for, minus the Shark, of course. Won't be needing the GPS!

I see it as a gimmick for golf courses that want to try to attract more golfers, like golfboards. If they allow golf courses to sell ads on it, it would offset the cost of the increased maintenance costs for the golf carts.

The biggest problem I see is the potential the devices have to make golf even longer as people sit in the cart looking for a song or watching a golf tip instead of hitting their ball.

Terrible idea.

I already hate taxi cabs and gas stations that have screens blasting nonsense to me, please keep that madness away from my golf cart.

Now, a drone following all play and recording people's rounds so you can watch yourself later, that has appeal to me, make it a shark drone for all I care.

I'm with you 100% brother. The very last thing I want is any technological distractions on the golf course.

But is there anyone here under the age of 30 that hates this idea? Norman was aiming this at younger golfers.

If they want it, they can have it already with a smart phone/tablet and wireless speakers. For a fraction of the cost.

And without lame Greg Norman videos.

And 5G will be out in a few years. Cabable of wifi speed and streaming live sports wherever you are.
