Anyone carry more than one brand of irons in their bag?

Callaway Apex CF19's can be purchased in a combo make where the short irons are Apex Pros and the long irons are Apex. Has anyone swapped out any of their irons for a different brand because they are perhaps longer or more forgiving?

I've been toying with using a different brand of 4i and 5i that might be more forgiving. Just wondering if there is any downside to this because of different swing weights, shafts, etc.? Anyone have an experience doing this and how did it work for you?

Presently have MP4 6 thru pw and Wilson Staff FGTv4 4 and 5 irons.

5-gw ping eye 2 mp 33 3 and 4iron. Been gaming the 33s for 8 years.

I'm about to gut my whole irons setup. Have been playing 716 ap1 for a few years. Planning to keep the 52 wedge and 5i, maybe the 4i, and package out the rest as a 6i-w, and then find a set of whatever works from 6i-47* anything.

I'm not long in this game, but I'm at the point where I'm totally over playing anything matched for the sake of compulsiveness, and if I find a money 6, 7, 8 iron or whatever from any random set that works, it's going in.

if you have Cally Apex + Pros why not either a Steelhead XR, Rogue or similar Cally GI 4 - 5 iron?

i have a half set of Steelhead XRs and wow the long irons fly, big time, and also forgive poor strikes.

The X Forged Utility or Apex Hybrids may offer the most help in terms of forgiveness and getting the ball in the air.

Personally, if I were going to do a combo set of irons, I'd want the look to be very similar across all of the clubs. For 1 club like a 4 iron, or essentially a hybrid replacement (22 degrees or less for me), maybe I could live with something completely different. In this case, it probably doesn't matter if it's the same brand or not (other than personal particulars for having all the same brand).

I will sometimes carry a Maxfli Revolution black dot 1 iron above my Ram or MacGregor irons, when I decide to not carry my 2h in that slot.

Nike vapor pros 4-PW, Titleist CB 3iron, TM UDI 2iron

At the moment I have 4-PW JL MM Prototype and a very old Cobra 3100i/h 3 iron, with a regular flex shaft, as opposed to stiff in the iron set. Seeing as I've never really been able to feel much difference between shafts (the shame!), it makes no odds to me.

Titleist TMB 2 iron, Srixon 765s in 5 thru P and finally Mizuno T7s in 50, 54 and 58.

I was the opposite forever. Those Vokey wedges seemed to wear out too fast so now I’m all Ping.

I was just literally thinking about this topic as well. Is every slot in the bag a free agent? I realize that irons are going to be somewhat connected, but the rest is for function only. I too am going to put a TMB 4 iron in the bag for length and trajectory control. Apex Pro and Pro Dots will then be 5-W and now, because of this thought, I am thinking about each wedge serving a purpose. I like my 60, but the others are going to be on the block...I think.

I have Tommy Armour 3-PW, Taylormade SW and LW, and a Cleveland 2i. I’m dumping the PW because honestly, I get no distance and way too high ball flight with it.

TaylorMade p790 4i, Srixon z745 5-9, Vokey PW

My TM and Srixons have the same shaft and the vokey has the same shaft as the rest of my wedge "set"

Dropped my Titleist AP3 5 iron for a Srixon U85 5 iron and wow what a difference in forgiveness feel and trajectory. So impressed with the Srixon that am considering going to Srixon irons and selling my AP3's.

I’m working across the country for the summer and my finalize iron set (I have two iron sets and two set of lofted wedges) is:

LW & SW = Cleveland RTX3. I found the ball was riding the face in my T7s.

3-PW = MP18s; the shaft and feel combination is superb so is my stamina. Hitting the ball well so the 900T are left behind.

2 iron = U45. Would be playing Mizuno but their driving irons have always been junk.

I was thinking the same thing. I currently rotate iron sets between Ping S55 and Mizuno JPX-850. Realizing I prefer the Mizzy longer irons and Ping short irons, so I think I’ll make a combo set.

If this includes wedges, yes. I game Mizuno JPX900 tour blades (3-PW), Miura forged 52 degree GW and a Scratch Golf 1018 58 degree LW. I'm am about to put in a new Scratch Golf 1018 50 degree GW.

My bag, as illustrated in my signature answers your question for me. I have always played with what works and most of the time that means at least 3 different brands. I seem to adapt fine.

... I have done this with long irons. I had a UDi TP 4 and 2 iron in my bag when playing Cobra Forged Tours but I am now playing P760's. I also used a Titleist 690 PW with several sets after I quit playing MB's and moved to CB's. I remember Billy Andrade keeping a Hogan PW in his bag when he switched to Titleist irons because he felt like it was his scoring club and he didn't trust another pw.

Cleveland RTX-3 LW and SW. 3-PW MP18mb. U45 2 Iron. I’ve done extensive testing and this works best for me.

Right now, TM irons and Cleveland wedges. Have typically had wedges different from the 5-PW. Some times alternate the GW between the wedge mfg and 5-PW mfg.
