Best GI or SGI Irons Available

Forum, I value your opinion greatly which is why I am asking. I currently play golf in the lower 80s and have shortcomings just about everywhere however I am an equipment and iron junkie. Over the last year or so I have had the chance to look at, play with or currently own: AP1, AP3, g700, 0311 XF, 0311p, Srixon z565, P790. I am looking for the most forgiving cleanest irons that one can stand to look at. Over the last several years I have played everything from Gmax to the original Apex. My passion and zeal for work and my family have not allowed me to practice near as much and I am trying to make the game as easy as possible and would like to know the forms opinion on the easiest to hit but still not looking silly type of irons. I'm super pumped for responses.

P790's have been a good combo of forgiveness, minimal offset, blade length, feel and ball flight for me. I had the Apex line and they were great clubs but prefer the topline, etc on the '19 P790. I have hit and demo'd the G410, G400, M5, M6, AP1 and AP3 and the 790 beat them out for me for all mentioned above.

The answer is the same as in the other threads on this topic: G410 and Mizuno Hot Metal (not Pro). The 410 is more forgiving but the HM wins everything else (looks, sound, appearance). As with ANY spring face iron, use a soft ball if you are sensitive to sound off the face.

So we can out this to bed. I ask as I cannot find any direct comparo's of T300 to 0211, 0311, HM, ETC.

Thats what I moved to from the G700s. The 0211s look so much better at address and feel much better. But if I am being honest the G700 are more forgiving, flew higher, straighter and further. The G700s are the best point and shoot iron I have ever hit. But I like the workability, turf interaction, and feel of the 0211s better.

I like the idea of "point and shoot".

Never seen them in person but the PXG 0211's seem to be an intriguing set of irons. They are a progressive set, SGI long irons with lower offset GI scoring irons. Fairly well priced for anything coming from PXG. Youtube Average Golfer is singing their praises. He probably got a set for free, but seems to hit them very well.

After playing all those iron sets I'm surprised you haven't realized there is no iron head design that is 'point and shoot'. Sure, some launch higher or are a tad more forgiving on off center hits; but no head design fixes face angle or path errors. I bet you've shot pretty much the same scores with all the different iron sets you've played over the past year assuming none were radically different shaft wise.

You're right web about the point and shoot. But, the 410's are as close as it gets to being just that.

Interesting. Maybe I don't need to scratch that itch and move into the G410's after all... ;) I have been playing the G400's for a couple of months, and have been loving them. Outstanding performance, and feel is just fine.

As to this thread, my vote would be the G400's/410's. 919 HM's should certainly be in the mix, but to be frank, my set has been pushed to the sidelines by the G400's. No matter how many times I try, I just end up coming back the Ping G series. I still have a set of G20's from the "fat bottom" era, and those are point and shoot.

@dhen9

We know that you shoot in the low 80s, and don't have much time for practice, and have tried out a half-dozen GI irons in your testing, and have made no mention of launch monitor data. But, we haven't seen your swing, and you don't mention what shafts work for you. So, our suggestions would just be speculation.

Further, "most forgiving" can be misleading - don't you want to strike a balance between forgiveness and performance? Too much "forgiveness" can hurt golfers with higher clubhead speed, or who naturally hit the ball high.

In 2016, I spend an hour-plus at the Ping booth at a major expo. I'm hitting the GMax, the G and the i200 irons. The GMax just hangs things up too high. The Ping G with the AWT 2.0 R-flex really makes me look good. The i200 looks is tempting, but would it work on my "bad" days?

Of the three, the GMax was technically more forgiving - but it came at a cost to overall performance. (I had a similar experience years before with the {G10 irons + high-launch shafts} delivering moon shots.)

I'll go from hint to emphatic: if you really want that Goldilocks moment of finding the GI iron that's "just right" for you, try some side-by-sides at upcoming demo days. Hopefully you have a launch monitor for assistance.

Simple answer as previously posted...

G410 or 919 Hot Metals

I have played several G series clubs over the years and got along ok with them. Had G410s briefly. The 919 HM are in a different league for ME. I hit them considerably better. And they look and feel better in my opinion. Only two serious contenders you should try...

I really want to find a set of these point and shoot irons. Every club I've ever had, from Big Berthas, Staff RM Tours, S59's, G's, G400's, I200's, IE1's, have all required me to put a decent swing on them to get good results.
