Best GI or SGI Irons Available

I would buy the g700s. I hit most of the irons on this list and the ball speeds of the g700 are just so great that it makes it easy to relax and just have fun. I was fit into 718 AP1s with PX 6.5 shafts last year and now I am playing g700s AWT 2.0 in stiff. It shouldn’t work but they are so easy to launch and heel and toe shots end up pin high. Just my opinion but I hit the g410s and the i210s this past spring and chose i210s as I did not feel like the g410s offered that much more forgiveness on poor strikes. But the g700s offer it in spades and they just work. The finish sucks but I just started writing my scores on the club heads with sharpie to cover that up and I love reading the scores! Lol makes them beautiful again.

I am in the same boat as OP, and just grabbed the Mizuno MP-20 HMBs. It is my third set sense summer (Ping i500s and Mizuno MP-5s). I have not hit them yet, but am hoping for the best.

Good luck,

G700's have been recommended here numerous times. Word of caution - demo them, preferably outside, before you buy them. They are long, straight and forgiving … but … the sound is something you have to adapt to. If you hit a perfect shot off the turf - fine - but if you hit it a bit thin or on the toe it definitely sounds "off" or different. I had complete strangers comment on how weird my shots sounded - especially off a tee. I eventually sold them and bought some Mizuno HM Pros. The Ping's performed and looked great - I just couldn't get used to the sound.

> Forum, I value your opinion greatly which is why I am asking. I currently play golf in the lower 80s and have shortcomings just about everywhere however I am an equipment and iron junkie. Over the last year or so I have had the chance to look at, play with or currently own: AP1, AP3, g700, 0311 XF, 0311p, Srixon z565, P790. I am looking for the most forgiving cleanest irons that one can stand to look at. Over the last several years I have played everything from Gmax to the original Apex. My passion and zeal for work and my family have not allowed me to practice near as much and I am trying to make the game as easy as possible and would like to know the forms opinion on the easiest to hit but still not looking silly type of irons. I'm super pumped for responses.

You want point and shoot? Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo, Mizuno 919 Hot Metal blended with the JPX Fli Hi Hybrids, or Callaway Big Bertha 2019 blended with the Bertha 2019 hybrids. If you can't hit the middle of the club with an 8 or 9 iron once and a while you shouldn't play golf, but let the fat bas***** from the 7i up to 3i in hybrids do all the heavy lifting. Best combo I've done and it's STUPID how easy they are to hit, I could almost close my eyes. I also have sold at least 5 or 6 of these types of setups this year and nothing but praises from the clientele who are all 90s+ shooters, so imagine how easy it would be for a mid-80s shooter.

I havent hit them on a course but are you sure about that? They seem not that forgiving imo

I was playing G400's. My instructor suggested that I would benefit from softer shafts in my irons. When I went to get fit, I hit G400, G410 and G700 heads (as well as some other brands). For whatever reason, I was more consistently on the sweet spot (and longer & straighter) with the G410's. They also felt better than the G700's did (but maybe that's just because I was hitting the sweet spot more consistently).

I've been a set of 4-SW G700 irons for about a year now, approximately 50 rounds of golf.. My set if fitted with Project X LZ 5.5 shafts and Golf Pride GP Tour Wrap mid size grips.

I know the G700 is advertised for high handicap players, but I am a 2 handicap and like this model's elongated heel-to-toe shape (not boxy like most other Ping head shapes), relatively thin top line, forgiving sole profile etc... 30 The G700 shape (sloped from high toe downward to the heel) reminds me of the Ping Eye 2 set I played 20 years ago. When struck squarely, the G700 has a pleasing impact sound.

I found that after about a dozen rounds of golf the scratches on Ping's "Hydro Pearl" finish all blend together to create a uniform look.

I'm in a similar situation. Generally shoot in the low-mid 80's but will squeak in a 78 or 79 here and there. I have 2 young kids so practice and playing time is pretty minimal. I got fit in the Spring and ultimately decided that the Srixon z585 were the best combo of forgiveness/looks/feel/value for me and my game. I decided that they are forgiving enough to not restrict me much now and will also be pretty playable if I magically find time to improve. I actually had a tighter dispersion with the PING i210 but went with the more forgiving option as I was hitting it better than normal during my fitting. After a full season I don't regret my choice. I think the fitting has helped keep me from questioning the clubs I play and tinkering with more sets/spending more money.

Pick 3-4 irons you would be happy with, go get fit, and let the best club win.

They are in one of the bags. I am going to drop recoils in them as well and they might get back in, for now ... temporarily my cottage set

I am shocked, Only 2 mentions of the Srixon Z585’s. These are your Goldilocks my friend. They may not have the autocorrect forgiveness of the G410 but every bit as long and way easier on the eye. Also, not buying the Mizuno Hot Metal hype. I’ve hit all three (900, 919, 919 PRO) and not a fan, though I wanted to be. So harsh and clicky. If you’re looking for a deal I loved the Callaway Steelhead XR, big distance and very forgiving without the SGI look. If you can stand them in your bag, I have to agree with the others in this camp G410 is like cheating.

If Ping could make an i500 type club feel/sound good, that would be on my short list.

TEE XCG7 16.5* 4w, OG Grafalloy Blue S, 41.75"

Cobra King OS 4-G, TT XP95 R300, -.5
Mack Daddy CB 56.14(2* weak)  60.12(3*  weak)

I was looking into this same issue recently. I had Jpx 900 HM's for a while and really liked them but was put off when noticed rust in the cavity. I was really close to pulling the trigger on G410's, but I ended up going with an Outlet Condition set of Callaway Epic irons off Callaway Pre-owned. For the price, they were too good to pass up.
