Bet you haven't been hit by someone like this!

This weekend a friend joins our group on the 4th hole 160 yard Par 3. Hit sculls a shot, it hits the tee marker on the next set of tees. Comes flying back towards us almost head high. I try to move out of the way but it hits me in the upper arm.

Well that's a new one for me.

Confirms my opinion that nowhere on the golf course is 100% safe.

That is correct. I played with a guy and on the 4rth hole I am watching him setup for his shot about 75 yards away directly 90 degrees from him and I look towards the hole to see his shot land and all I hear is FORE" and look over towards him quick enough just to see the ball coming right at me allowing to make some sort of flinch before it nailed me right in my left buttocks. I tell you I I didnt make the effort that I did, I would of nailed me right in my spine. I felt like a paintball sting and I was okay to continue with the round. He on the other hand felt so bad and was not playing well up to that point anyways, that he walked off the golf course. I told him a cold one at the turn would be perfect but he just walked away.

A friend of mine on a longer par 3 hit the sand bucket on the next tee. The ball came right back at him. He instinctively jumped up and caught the ball as it was flying over his head. So, think he would be hitting his 3rd or 4th shot from there. Haha

Only been hit once - when I was around 12 some ladies let me play through and I'm trudging pretty much straight up the hill towards where my drive landed and one of the ladies decided to tee off for some reason - one bounce, hit me in the back, lol. Actually didn't even hurt and I turned around and waved and they realized they jumped the gun a little and heard a bunch of "sorries" yelled. A year or two later I think I'd have just fallen to the ground and hoped one of the "hot moms" came up with guilt and sympathy, lol, but wasn't that cagey at 12.

I did see a friend take a wicked and short duck-hooked drive through an evergreen to his forearm. The sound was bad enough, but that puppy looked bad in a hurry. The guy who hit it knew instantly from the scream of agony he'd hit someone (we were a fairway over headed opposite direction) and came driving down and pretty nervous and apologetic and he couldn't see us from the tee. I will never forget seeing that guy's father-in-law (who knew me and the guy I was playing with), who was and still is a doctor, all the way across the other fairway in his cart headed straight down the hole and on past driving like he had blinders on - not even coming over to see how bad the injury was. Even saw him the next day and boy could I tell he just didn't want any part of it, so I let him off the hook and never said a word. Weird.

I have only been hit once and nothing as serious as y'all have been describing. Mine was a bit unusual though. I had just hit my 2nd on a par 4 and walked over a small hill heading to the green. I was mid-step when a ball from the group behind me hit me in the ankle of the planted foot . I went down like I had been shot. It didn't hurt all that much, but the unexpected impact knocked me instantly off balance. Felt a little silly, but got up and trudged on.

I didn't see it, heard about it from my son's best friend. Happened during a High School match

Par 4, tee box is right at the edge of a pond...about a 6' high wall made of RR Tiers.

So my kid tees off. Hits a "Daisy Cutter", hits a RR tie, it bounces back and hits him in the shin. Hits his next shot into the pond. Rest of his round went severely down hill from there.

This is the 4th hole. Kid had to walk the rest of the round with a huge bump on his shin.

So wished I'd have seen it.

Don't be squeemish...

Day after...

PP94ECU9GSBR.jpgAbout a month after...

W8VN4Z0U7XAA.jpgThe fact that I was wearing Oakleys actually saved my life. The ball impacted the center of my lens and broke the frame. Based on the impact spot the ball, without the glasses on, would have gone straight thru and liquefied the eye, and most likely made it thru the back of the socket wall. Long term is a knot on the bridge of my nose to match the 4 other times I broke it, and when I get super tired I get a pretty decent twitch that others can even notice above the eye.

I was hit in the calf area from an errant shot on an adjacent fairway. I’ll never forget it because I was 2 under and after I got hit I played like a dog. Sounded like a bee before it hit. Was lucky it hit the fleshy part of the calf and not my shin bone. Had a purple bruise for weeks. Not fun.

Given I'm a hacker and play with hackers, it's surprising that I've never seen anyone get cracked, though I have learned to never stand anywhere in front of anyone I play with, even if it's well off to the side and only a few feet in front (and I warn them to not do the same for me). I did hit a member of my group who was on the green once when hitting out of a greenside bunker, and the way he reacted, you'd have thought I had cracked him with a skulled drive (ball hit him in the back as it flopped back down to earth). I think he was startled, but luckily not hurt.

I've only ever seen someone get hit once.

Playing w 3 strangers (an adult son and his father and grandfather) who had made a 3 hour drive to play this course. Around the 6th or 7th hole, the son hits a high, banana slice toward the next fairway. We are all screaming "FORE" bc its heading right toward a group coming the tee. The old man in the line of fire makes the classic mistake of looking up and shielding his eyes from the sun, nicely exposing his sternum for the ball to smash into. From 200 yards away it sounded like a single up the 3rd base line. He dropped like a dead man. I literally thought he was. He ended up finishing out the round but our group was so shaken up that we struggled. In fact, the other guys drove the 3 hours home at the turn.

Nearing the end of the same round, I piped a drive down the middle of a downhill par 5. When I got to my ball, it was on a tee. I was SO confused. It wasn't until like 6 mos ago that I read somewhere that it is something ppl do when you hit into them. To this day, I have no idea how that is possible bc there wasnt a group in front of me at that point.

About 25 years ago we were playing in a Thurs night scramble.

Playing from the white tees.

I hit my drive, and topped it.

The ball ricocheted off the red markers and flew back.

It hit one of the guys in our group.

I apologized profusely.

He said he had been hit before.

It sounded like a hammer hitting frozen meat.

Later we looked at it, and it looked like a red golf ball sticking out of his chest.

I felt really bad, but he was laughing by then.

I never laughed at that.

A few years ago I was playing with a group of friends. They guy I was riding with is a natural Lefty, but for some reason decided to play golf right handed. We rode up to his ball and I grabbed my club and started to walk off to mine at about an 80* angle from him. He hit the ball off the outside of the toe and drilled me right behind my left ear about 30 yards away. I did a little combat roll forward and finished on my knees waiting for the pain or stars and to my surprise nothing. Left a nice welt there, but was barely even sore. I got lucky. To this day every time I see him he apologizes
