Good morning guys, it has been a busy week. We had a successful GHSC Collectibles and Memorabilia Show on Sunday and the rest of the week has been a little golf mixed with moving my remaining stuff out of my storage locker. I hope @BIG STU doesn’t suffer any flashbacks in reading this.

 

My take on pimento cheese sandwiches, I can’t recall having one but will eat just about anything. 
 

My stance on ponytails, I am all for them although I personally don’t have enough hair to have one. 
 

Well, back to organizing my stuff. The following picture is from our website.

Another food story since we’ve developed a thread here. 
 

My food preferences derive mainly from my mom, raised in an Oklahoma farmers house, and whom I love dearly. The family loved root crops, and grew them unfortunately very successfully. Turnips, parsnips, rutabaga. But the worst was beets. Brutally, disgustingly red with an aftertaste two shots of Jim Beam couldn’t wash away. 
 

Somewhere along the line I also developed a distaste for sour cream. Don’t ask me why, probably mom again. That woman loved everything. 😀. We’re all different.
 

Side note, I’m just fine with pony tails, tattoos, etc. It’s your body. When I grew up in Arkansas in 60’s and 70’s, we all had long hair. But it was red neck style, the hippie movement hadn’t made it there yet. Unfortunately same for the “free love” movement. Maybe draw the line on man buns but just my geezer side coming through.

 

First year of college, with no money, I was just going to stay on campus for Thanksgiving. My roommate, and eventual best friend,  asks me to come to his house. Huge family. Loud and fun. We arrive the night before the holiday, for a small welcome dinner. His mom and dad, whom I grew to adore, had just come back from a trip to Russia. 
 

The meal they served?  Borscht. With sour cream.

No kidding. I buzz my head. Both of my boys have long hair. It is the pinnacle of being a rude DB to comment on someone’s hair. Say that to the wrong guy and you could end up catching a beat down. (Exception being close friend busting each other’s balls — that’s different!)

 

When my younger son was younger and smaller, he’d occasionally be mistaken for a girl because of his long wavy/curly hair. I never took offense because it was without fail an honest mistake, and it never bothered him either. Usually a waitress would ask “what would she like today?” and #2 would just say “I’m he, and I’d like the fajita omelet please.” The poor waitress would be mortified but all good, no offense meant and definitely none taken.

Mrs. Price is the Pimento & Cheese around here, unless you make our own. Mrs. Baird's is the hiaf of choice, toasted of course. Although I really prefer it on a Ritz cracker.

The only foods I can’t abide are hard boiled eggs and soft shell crabs 

I have a 15 year old kid who eats hard boiled eggs by the half dozen 😂.  Measured him yesterday and he’s almost 6-3 barefoot. 177lbs. 32 inch waist. I’ve told him to enjoy it. He’s enjoying the most efficient (eating) time of his life.  It’s like watching a machine consume fuel. 
 

track meet last night.  He ran the 4x800 relay came back in. Went and put his sweats back on , and walked up to the stands where we were sitting. He had a doughnut , a cordog and a water in his hands.  I looked at him and smiled.  He knew what I was thinking.  He smiles back and said “ tacklin fuel “ … 45 min later he ran the open 800m and came in 3rd to his two 18 year old senior teammates , only 3 seconds behind.  He came back in.  Puts his sweats back on. Comes back up with a bag of hard boiled eggs from his lunch box. 😂. Ate 6.  Flexed at me , then walked back down to the team tent.  An hour later he ran a new PR in the 4x400 relay.  Team ran a 3.23 ( race is 4 people each running a lap.  So a 1600 total).   And it’s early yet in the season. They’ll pickup 4-5 seconds easy with handoffs alone.   Rollin!   Love it !  I boiled him another dozen this morning and put on the fridge for later. 😉

It’s better hot/toasted - in my opinion.  And less is more. I find I prefer eating 2 thin pimento cheese sandwiches vs one fat one.

I'm pro long hair, had lots when I had the hairline, adore women with a nice mane of hair too. I'm getting old, miss people putting effort looking put together, everyone is just running around asexually in crew cuts, spanks & pasty skin these days. We used to dress for where we wanted to go in life, now we dress for the couch, it's epidemic where I live and it's not a positive and I'm pro casual attire too, in life & on golf course but the details still need to be right. 

 

Love eggs too, every type, salad, deviled, omelet & fried. Can eat a hearty breakfast, go all day on it.

sheesh, it’s friday already? rain and howling winds on the way this weekend.

 

i cut my teeth as an engineer in the power distribution industry, building big infrastructure stuff that turns the lights on, powers subways, factories, airports and power stations.

 

boring, but infrastructure is boring. we flip a switch and expect it to work so we can see dancing bunnies on our phones, keep the beer cold and spend time clicking a remote to find something, anything, worth watching.

 

anyway, it’s one thing i know more than most about. difficult to write, but pretty close to expert knowledge.

 

we’re finally getting some rumblings. some, but not much, awakening to the reality of our power infrastructure.

 

the 5-year outlook of demand vs capacity is not good. industrial demand, including data centers, chip fab plants, battery plants, etc. is heading us straight toward bridge supports.

 

consumer consumption is not a problem, but industrial consumption will affect the daily life of consumers. consumers consume little compared with industrials.

 

we’re past the point to stave this off. power plant plans are not on the drawing board, they take 10 years to bring on line with the regulatory filters. and no one wants to build them because they cost money.

 

consumers will have rolling blackouts and brownouts in 5 years. consumers will feel the inconvenience. it will be like 3rd world electrification for some areas of the northeast and south.

 

this cannot be avoided. solar and wind cannot make up for it. when the wind doesn’t blow and sun doesn’t shine, winter reducing efficiency all make it impossible in the next 5 years.

 

we’re up against the limit of battery efficiency with our current technology. not an opinion. thermodynamics doesn’t have opinions.

 

sorry to be the messenger, but as i have said, engineers know it and anticipate it, but no one who decides is listening. but, it doesn’t matter, we’re already long past the time when we could have avoided it.

 

i’m really not a doomer. it’s just math.

 

china and india have been building a new power plant every month for years. we’re talking, yapping on and on about nonsense.

It’s funny. As square as I am. Long hair has never bothered me on a dude. But short hair on a woman is 1-1000 success rate.  Meaning most can’t pull it off. The ones who can , do it well. But it’s not something I’d dwell on or care about. Just wouldn’t be an attractive person to me. 
 

me and hair ?  I keep mine short because it’s curly if it’s long.  It would turn into a lions mane if it grew out.  Ringlets. Women who have seen me when it’s grown out somewhat , hate me 😉.  Because they pay big money for it to be that way.  If mine were straight , I’d probably have grown it out when I was younger. But I always played sports and it’s just hot and too much trouble.  So I get a #2 guard buzz on the sides and back , and let it grow in front and on top just to where the curls start forming.  In fact I’m headed for an Easter haircut this afternoon.   I’ll go from a size 8 1/4 hat to a 7 3/4 in 20 min time.

Do you pack his lunch in a suitcase ala Jethro Bodine? I remember being able to eat like that and stay thin as a bean pole. Now, I'm full just from reading what he "snacked on" between races. Great to be young.

related. Duke power customers in our area got notice yesterday of a possible rate increase.  My wife wonders why.  I know why.  We are  some of the lucky ones on hydroelectric  power.  They can see the demand coming.  And know that they’ll need us to pay that new going rate , or else they’ll sell parts of it off to those who will pay.    Paying is bad. But doing without is worse.  
 

I say a first  good step is criminalizing electric car manufacturing . ( partial joke - not really ). Seriously though. Waste should be identified and cut out. Charging cars is one of the most wasteful things on earth.  Anywhere a pair of lakes can be built between a dam, it should  have been being built 20 years ago.  Could be dual purpose to the good. Water retention and electric.  Red tape needs to be removed

No kidding it’s a 2 gallon cooler. 😂.  His special waters ( amino acids , sodium etc mix ). He will have several granola options. A couple apples ,  Two bananas. Usually a turkey sandwich , and another protein. Either eggs, or some clean homemade jerky. Deer or turkey.    He eats most of this before they let out for lunch at 1130.( kids nowadays can eat in class if they’re not disruptive ). He then eats a chicken sandwich from the lunch line at school and finishes off any leftovers from his “ lunch box” before 315 practice.  If he has a meet , I bring him a meal at 3 and drop it off before they get on the bus to leave at 320. He usually won’t run until 530 on meet days.      He will eat again after the meet.   I’ve had to actively abstain from eating with him , so that I don’t gain weight.  🤦‍♂️.  
 

yes , I am his personal chef.  Yes he is blessed. No I don’t regret one bit of it.😂  He’s a very well grounded kid.  And understands just how blessed he is.

it’s not about now, it’s about what is being planned and built in the next few years. one fab plant in upstate ny will use more electricity than new hampshire and vermont combined.

 

they get the best rates and aren’t going to be subject to black/brownouts, but consumers are darn sure going to pay for building new power plants.

 

(re: water & power - japan uses solar power in the daytime to pump water up to a reservoir. it releases in the evening to the bottom reservoir, peak demand time, to generate hydroelectricity. no cost power. small scale for local areas, but works great.)

We have ceased to be builders of most everything. Instead of modernizing and going next gen, we litigate, wrap it up in miles of red tape and hold NIMBY meetings. Whine du jour in my town is two industrial spots, one for a concrete plant, one that's always been there and another for a spot where scopes for bombers were made. Both around longer than most complainers haved lived.I pointed that out in FB community blogs. No thumbs up for that, lol. We need power plants, refineries, pipelines & even desalination facilities. Mandates and tax breaks will not get this stuff done. In Europe they are even tougher on codes but they get it done. Factories are next to glacier rivers, mountain passses have blasted tunnels asnd cannon turrets . Homes have bomb shelters and solar and latest systems that skimp on Co2. The basic infrastructure is top notch, the roads are built twice as good as here. There, they use automated traffic signals on road work, here, we hire 2 off duty cops for $75 an hour, so 5 guys can change a sewer cover. Ridiculous from that level to rebuilding entire grid. Guys who can't make hot dogs are running the Michelin Star restaurant. It shows too.

Kroger has Price's and it is ok. I also like to eat Pimento Cheese on Ritz or even Saltine crackers.

On the deal on the Queen City Pimento cheese my wife went to Kroger this morning. She asked about it and they said they did not have it the closest place was Savannah GA. Now that Kroger has went downhill post pandemic. Ok I told her I went back on the FB post for that company and told them. See what kind of fireworks will fly. Will check by Food Lion tomorrow on the way to Church to run an Easter Egg program thing. Sheesh I do not have any idea on what is going on there but they called Monday and begged me to please run it because it seems a lot of the A/V staff is out of town.
