Nike dropping golf equipment (merged)

Some people are just way too sensitive over golf equipment.... It's basically the R1 days and face paint all over again.... Nobody is happy that people are getting laid off but this is the real world and s*** happens. if you guys stopped being so sensitive than maybe the "haters" would also stop.... Otherwise they will just follow you the apparel section.

This does sucks. I would have to agree that the Nike threads were always the best! What other company took notice from a thread like the #releasetheputter. I will also be curious to see what all the die hard Nike guys on here switch to. Maybe we can make "first step is admitting I had a Nike problem, but I've recently switched to....." I guess that's what WITBs are for?

I bought some Nike golf shoes once, man they were garbage.

 

And thats an insult to garbage.

 

That was my first and last impression of Nike golf.

The clubs looked like they were made of that plastic metal that they made the buttons you change the stations on in the cheap stereos in like a 79 Dodge Dart.

 

I think I will buy some of those red shirts and stockpile them. Prolly sell them on ebay in like 30 years.

Not for nothing, but PXG is going to quickly run out of cash too. I don't know anyone dropping $5k on a set of irons that you can't try anywhere. Picking up more pro contracts will only hasten their fall.

Japanese pain products, muscle pharm at least they matched the Nike color scheme at the time. Tiger never did and now never will move product like MJ. Instead of Jumpman logo he could be Humpman (once his back and glutes are up to it..

Looking at how successful UA has been with just apparels, no brainer Nike does this. Equipments don't make money, apparels do, just cold hard business fact. Now that they don't make clubs, they might snatch Ping players to wear Swoosh or even Callaway ones.

This should be a wakeup for companies selling $500 drivers and $1200 irons sets. Nike has more money at their disposal than any other golf club firm and they are quitting. That says so much

Come into the market, create a huge golf wide discussion on their product, and then sign some of these guys up and push a more affordable product. I have little doubt there would be a line out the door for any PXG equipment at the same price point as the other major companies. just a thought...

Nike just told you it's not profitable to sell hard goods... that's NIKE who could buy Bob Parsons and have him mow Jordans lawn.

first of all Nike said THEY have not been profitable. If you don't think that a more affordable line of PXG gear wouldn't do better than Nike golf clubs you're dense.

Couldn't agree more. Make it more affordable and they sell like hot cakes. People would get new clubs far more often if they cut prices in half.

I just bought an extra 5 wood at pga store last week. They have a 90 day return policy, do you think they will honor in full? I know it will be store credit, but I don't see it going up in value, even though it's still in plastic. What would you all do?
