The guy hasn't played a real event in what, 15 months? Can we wait until these 4 events in 5 weeks are over to even begin proclamations about his game?

Probable answer... Of course not, this is wrx. :)

Short game looks pretty solid. Off the tee needs a lot of work. Better go back to the Nike.

Hilarious coverage as always on GC and social media outkets. Two birdies and Tiger's on fire? I don't think so.

As usual the guys shooting incredible scores are overlooked in the desperate hope Tiger has somehow wound the clock back and found a game that can stand up to more than a few holes.

Twitter feeds are evidence a parallel universe exists. "Just you wait and see him pull back those 12 shots, what will you say then?"

Nothing. Because it won't happen.

The last 17 months has been refreshing for the lack of such nonsense but it's going to be a long Thurs/Fri for the next 5 weeks.

Down in SD for the Farmers this week while mixing in a little golf of my own. I've learned from past years that following Tiger can be an exercise in frustration but did manage to get a couple shots of him today. I staged myself in the Grey Goose 19th hole and had a good view of him playing 8. Later on my way out I stopped and got a shot of him on 13. He struggled on the back but he wasn't hitting fairways and when you miss a lot of fairways there struggles usually follow.

Tiger short sided himself on the Par 3 8th but made a nice up and down to save par.

He chopped up 13 pretty bad. Here he is hitting his 3rd on 13 from the rough in the bottom of the swale. He went on to make bogey.

He beat 15 in a field of 155 today.

Yay Tiger.

Seriously let's watch him dying on his a** and not the guys playing well. Let's not grow the game by focussing on the future but instead someone who hasn't played (well) for 4 years.

Let's actually just pretend because everyone else is.

Or not.

Thats death on the South due to rough

4 of 14 will not cut it on most courses.

He actually scored very well given the fact. And for his 1st round in 18 months, paired with world numbers 1 and 3 who only scored better than Tiger by 3 and 4 shots respectively.

Just a tough day on the South course. No one's gonna be throwing down a 63 there (let alone a 59) anytime soon

Good to see him back out there playing

He did. But its too late days Seve. Bit nerve wracking!

Incrdible that the best to ever tee it up is hitting, well what was it, I did not see, spinners or blocks right.

I think he will find it. Tension manifests in the back and hes prolly still worried about his back. Hope he can loosen up on the tee.

That's a pretty good sized Tiger crowd for a Thursday afternoon.

I was there watching first several holes. Crowd was too massive to enjoy. Walked over to the north course where Rose Snedeker and Koepka followed by Phil, J Walker and Fowler. Saw Rose play incredibly and shoot 30 on back 9.

Actually all the announcers agreed that if Tiger plays his best and everyone else plays their best, there are 20 guys who will beat him. That seemed a bit much to me.

Maybe, maybe not, hate that kind of speculative predicting usually. Isn't Tiger's best technically 2000 summer? But it's completely irrelevant. Then if you're talking about recently then Tiger has played nowhere near enough events over the past year to judge what his 'best' actually is anymore, other than indulging in fantasy about how good or bad he is playing.

Watching the replay , announcers ranting an raving about j day hitting a 5 wood 269, really j day doesn't carry a 5w 90% of the time. Pretty positive it was a 3w, they have to be told by the Sponsors to just blatantly misrepresent yardage and clubs

Yeah I dont think Day has carried a true 5W ever during his PGA Tour career. HIs current 3W is a 15* most likely open face and playing closer to 14*.

Ive seen them make this error many times in describing clubs.

Didnt like that argument. It discredits almost every over 40 player OR guys who dont regulary contend to win. There is still merit in going out there and trying. There is still merit in enjoying the game at a competitive level. It is very difficult to win on tour for everyone. Dropping lines like that is absurd. But I will say, they told Jack and Watson they were finished long before they were. They said Langer was washed up, he dominated the senior tour, Monty too.

This view of the young guys are so much better than Tiger is ridicolous lol. Stenson won at 40, Jimmy at 37 just last year, and you got Zach hitting it 265 and winning the Open in '15. Its such a narrow and hopeless perspective. We got Federer making it to a slam final at 35 after being written off every year since '10. We've got Venus Williams making to the final at 36 with a serious autoimmune disease. Have a little faith folks!

A bit worried about Frankie's absence post the 11 shot round 1 deficiency. Known to have bolts with a tendency to be a bit over torqued, hopefully he's just down at the Speedy Lube having fluid level's adjusted and having the bearings re-packed.

Frankie and bscinstnct are on watch to make sure they don't hurt themselves. :)
