Watching the replay , announcers ranting an raving about j day hitting a 5 wood 269, really j day doesn't carry a 5w 90% of the time. Pretty positive it was a 3w, they have to be told by the Sponsors to just blatantly misrepresent yardage and clubs

 

Yeah I dont think Day has carried a true 5W ever during his PGA Tour career. HIs current 3W is a 15* most likely open face and playing closer to 14*.

 

Ive seen them make this error many times in describing clubs.

 

Up until very recently Day carried a 17* 3W, a high-launch model which was basically a 5W. Now, Day carries a 15* 3W.

Uuuhhh no. Like I said earlier, give him time and then assess. Guy comes back for his first event in 15 months on one of the more difficult venues and we're going to stick the fork in him? Let the four events he's registered for play out and then bury him if you like.

He carried a 16.5 with a true loft of 14.5. Listed in all of his WITB's. 17* isnt basically a 5 wood either, its a 4 wood. Lastly its highly likely his current 15* is open and delofted. So the point remains the same, he didn't hit 5w for that particular shot and he has never carried one.

Day looked like he was playing so well.

 

Hopefully Tiger makes the cut so he can play 4 rounds. His swing definitely needs some work. That high right shoulder and push it right looks very unnatural. I can't really remember but I thought his swing looked better at the Hero.

Yes, looked totally out of synch. Being no Leadbetter och Harmon, I wonder if it is just some kind of fine tuning due to being in a real tournament situation, or if his swing is more generally not in a good shape? Club change, could that be an issue?

Interesting to see if his shots straightens out today.

Also a little surprised he was that much shorter than Day and DJ off the Tee (I did not see the complete round, California is not a Scandinavia-friendly time zone for golf tournament followers)

Yeah someone said earlier that he is "easily longer than Day."

 

Which is further evidence of the parallel universe that Tiger and his acolytes seem to exist in. He admitted himself in the press conference on Wednesday that he CAN'T bomb it past Day and wouldn't get into a discussion of whether or not he could because it would be a waste of time.

I was really hoping he would do well, but watching this was almost painful. He sprays it wildly all over the place off the tee, his approaches are not sharp neither in distance nor in direction, his short game is so-so at best, especially the first nine on the course. I may see this wrong, but he didn't look like Tiger Woods who is determined to win a golf tournament. He looked like Tiger Woods not being ready for this and hoping it won't be too bad today. He could easily shoot over 80 if he keeps playing like that.

 

Other notables: Justin Rose ( love his game, I see him winning a major this year). Beau Hossler: Very impressive round. The guy can really play, hope he can hold it together and play on the weekend. And sorry: Bryson Dechambeau: Stop designing weird putters buddy! That's not your problem. Your whole package is not (yet) in Tour shape. as Richard would say: Fairways and Greens, my friend!
