Just buy a whole set of one-generation old ping clubs. Best used club to buy IMO. The shelf life on their clubs is basically forever and PING will refurbish or fix any faults for free.

Go to the goodwill, spend $20 and pocket the rest. Clubs probably wont make much difference to a legit 10 handicap.

 

 

A 10 would be in great shape with a lot of combos above, and many of those would yield no decrease in performance from new for a 10..

 

However to suggest a 10 handicap wouldn't be able to tell the difference in a random thrift shop $20 set, is probably insulting to many guys around that handicap.

 

Not a good contribution on topic.

Nike Engage wedges right now are getting ridiculously low priced as well although they are getting harder to find.

I would buy something similar to what I have now. Just find clubs you like and wait to find good deals on them...and don't be afraid to buy used.

 

A couple of great clubs that are cheap but good:

 

- Adams Tom Watson 2010 Classic wedges. There are many different models for these wedges, but these are a little smaller and have a great shape to them. Great value.

 

- Callaway Big Bertha 2007 3 wood. It flies shorter than a 3 wood normally does for me, but it is so easy to hit off the deck and it goes super straight. I pretty much use it as my 5 wood. When they get them on Global golf they are only $20.

 

- Nickent 3DX Ironwood DC hybrids. If you like a smallerish hybrid, these are $20 a piece and have great shafts in them.

 

- Adams Drivers, FWs, and Hybrids- You can find them for super cheap on Global Golf. I just got a few Super S hybrids. Have not used them enough to have an opinion on them yet, but they are quite cheap to buy.

 

- Buy irons on ebay- find the irons of your choice, look for them in the condition and price that you want, and try to buy from Top Rated sellers. Make sure there are enough pictures so you don't get any surprises. If you are patient you can find really good deals.

 

- Get really good with the clubs you have. Don't change clubs unless a new one will make you score better. They really don't ware out that fast....if you are hitting it well, there is no need for something new.

I stop by Goodwill fairly regularly donating stuff and I always check the golf section when there. Have you ever seen what takes up 99.99% of the "equipment"? Early 80s McGregor irons and crappy persimmon woods in horrible condition.

 

I'm bouncing between a 6-7 handicap and I don't know if I can break 100 with the garbage you find at Goodwill.
