He won, what he won. No reason to believe that he would have won anymore if he had been physically fit.

We can play the game "IF" all day with anyones career. I once had a thoroughbred that went lame, he could have won the Kentucky Derby "IF".

So, you had a thoroughbred?

Love to hear that story.

This is a sports forum about golf. Sports fans discuss these things all the time.

What if Ali fought Tyson?

Who is the best QB of all time?

Your "thoroughbred" notwithstanding, threads like these bring conversation about great golfers, equipment, and how the game has developed.

Hope its fine with you (and those who see no merit in this discussion but cant help but post themselves ; )if people discuss what the

*Best golfer to ever play the game"

Might have accomplished in variuos scenarios.

And consdering that the KD is coming up, whats the deal with your horse?

It was not about my horse, that was an example of "what if".

I was born on Green Tree Farm, in Lexington, KY. We (family) have had many thoroughbreds. My uncle has had several Derby winners.

Nice. Love the Derby. Won some very decent cash on when Proud Citizen placed back when.

Look, if you dont like the "what if" stuff, thats fine, but, as I said, the conversation is sports talk and theres nothing wrong with it.

Mine was not the only negative about "what if".

I am a Tiger fan, but not a fanboy. :taunt:

Good luck if your betting the Derby. What I learned about horse racing is, its a horse race........who knows. very curious as to what "Patch" will do.

Yah, my fil makes some julips, a bit sweet but good bourbon. My mil is fascinated by horses. She used to ask for a horse for her birthday as a girl but where you keep a horse in Brooklyn?

That is an intense event. Looking forward.

Tiger was just that good for a while. Now he no longer is. You really think Tiger would stare down DJ in a major and kick his butt?

DJ has 1 major win. He's an incredible player, but not some dominant force. There are a lot of players who can stare down DJ in a major and "kick his butt". Tiger is still a better putter than DJ, so there's no reason to think TIGER WOODS could beat DJ if he can string together some tournaments without getting injured. Nobody has ever played better golf than Tiger, not even close.

I wouldn't bet against Tiger if he can come back and play multiple tournaments. He's still got game, just as much as anyone on tour. His problem is health, and it's possible he can't get healthy. The fact is that Tiger Woods playing without intense pain is still Tiger Woods. He's been winning since he was barely out of diapers, and he didn't always win because he hit it longer than his competition.

I, for one, think Tiger still wants to prove to himself he can make another run. Most other humans quit after so many surgeries. He wants to shock the world and grab a couple more majors, I can assure you. He's not built to just be done. He found a way to win on a broken leg, and he'll find a way to compete with a restricted back.

The BIG question is the health. We don't really know if the swing changes did him in, the SEAL training, the gym or genetics did him in. But we do know that he is done. How many majors would have Hogan won if.....how about Watson if he didn't get yippy and didn't fight alcohol demons, or Jack if he would have focused on golf instead of making money in other ways like building courses.

Tiger would have beat the players of this era in his prime, competing against Phil, Vijay, Ernie, Furyk, Westwood, Clark, Monty, Ollie, etc. etc. is pretty good company. Tiger was just that good for a while. Now he no longer is. You really think Tiger would stare down DJ in a major and kick his butt?

If "if's" and "buts" were candy and nuts.....oh what a party it would be.

Question to DJ:

"When did you believe that you could be the best player, be No. 1?"

Answer from DJ:

"When Tiger stopped playing"

There is another Jack/Tiger esque player coming. Maybe not for 10 - 15 years but he is out there. HE always comes along and it's going to be fun.

Imo if Tiger stayed with Butch and just played Tiger 2000 (Tiger 2002 was pretty special too) with anything 20 majors would've been a breeze.

OMG! I'm meant just the opposite. Tiger in his prime would tear DJ apart jut like he did Ernie so many times. Tiger was not afraid of any situation, he thrived on the challenge.

It took herculean efforts career/lifetime shots and putts to get to 14. lets not get crazy here. He couldnt keep up that pace Harmon or no. Players caught up, the putts that were dropping 100% of the time started falling to 75%. i always saw him exactly here 14-15 as i never pictured him lasting in his 40s. Unfortunately i was right

I meant just the opposite. Total mis-type on my part. Tiger would make DJ's knees wobbly during his prime.

Most players only have around 10 years of prime golf. Tiger, Watson, Palmer, Trevino, Hogan Etc. jack was the one true exception. Jack almost had 3 prime streaks. The early to mid 60's then another streak in the 70's. Then 3 more majors in the 80's.

Tiger won majors from 1997 to 2008 Jack from 1962 to 1986. Jack was the best or one of the best players in the world for 20 years.

If Tiger would have stuck with the Butch Harmon swing he had at the 2000 US Open at Pebble he would have won 25 majors.

Tiger might not have even won 14 with that swing, or would have but would have been done even earlier. He was having serious knee issues because it required him to snap his knee each time to generate that outrageous power. That was not sustainable and was one of the main reasons why Tiger went to Hank Haney - to create a swing that was easier on his body.

Woods won 31 times on the PGA Tour from 2005 to 2009 with Haney, including six majors. He won 7 times in a row from 2006–2007, and 5 times in a row from 2007-2008 with Haney. Do you really think Butch was the key?

this is a solid take.

couple of more with butch harmon and getting caught 18-22

new coaches + not getting caught around 16-18

butch harmon and not getting caught 22+++

i think tigers greatest attribute was his mind and killer instinct. when he got caught

doing all those stuff it mentally affected him blah blah. once you start to doubt goes downhill

from there. if he is able to win several more he could be the greatest sportsman ever! IFFFFFF

Who cares.

He was amazing...

Appreciate Tiger for what he was....79 wins in the modern era is bananas especially considering he only played the toughest events outside majors...

Btw, Nicklaus could've won 35 Majors...he finished second 19 times and like 75 top tens or something ludicrous!!!

Look at Jack in the 70s at the majors below[pictured]....good lord he was in contention at almost every single major...wtf

Anyhow, I still think Tiger, at the height of his power, was the most dominant, greatest golfer to ever lace up cleats for a time...

But the all time GOAT can be argued as Lord Byron, Jack, or Tiger IMHO....u can argue any and I wouldn't disagree...

-Chris

Good lord. From 70-79 he finished out of the top 10 four times. And two of those were 11th and 13th.

I'm a Tiger guy for GOAT, but man that is a résumé.
