New Ping Vault 2.0 putters (thanks, tod071)

PING have turned into the TaylorMade's of 2018 - 3 sets of irons inside the past twelve months, new wedges & putters every few months. What has happened to their business model of a new model every 18 months? Their loyal customers will not be happy watching their premium investments going down in value as fast as TM's.

Nope. Nice try. PING still replaces clubs on an 18 month cycle. The G700 seem like a one-off set which they occasionally do. They stagger releases so new irons are released once or twice per year. The Glide 2.0 were released a year ago and they always have a few models of putters. Nothing new here and Ping clubs will continue to hold their value.

Er, is your maths not up to scratch? PING i200 Jan 2017, then the 400's about six months later and now 700's Jan 2018. i200's have been falling in value on eBay for the past three months and now they will fall further.

Er, none of these are a replacement for the i200 or the G400 irons.

And a year old iron model falling in value on eBay? In other news, water is wet.

My math is just fine. i200 replaced ie 1 - 18 months later. G400 replaced G irons - 18 months later. Like I said, Ping staggers their releases so some years you will have 1 set of irons released and other years you will have multiple sets released (that’s what happens with 18 month cycles). A new finish option on a wedge that was released 12 months ago is hardly releasing new wedges “every few months”

You do realize that the G400 did not replace the i200, right? Your post implies that you think 200, 400, 700 are successive models and replace each other

Of course I realise the G400 did not replace the i200 - I should as I play the i200's and have been a PING devotee for around 35 years. I am merely saying that their business model has altered recently and I don't believe it is for the better e.g. anyone who bought the 400 driver is unlikely to be best pleased that another model appeared so soon after the original launch. As I live in a free country I am entitled to my opinion, as you are to yours.

iongolf, you're confusing PING with TM and Callaway. Years ago TM was notorious for their frequent releases, so much so that retailers had so much excess of old models that they couldn't move them, even with heavy discounts. TM then made it very penalizing for retailers to return old product. TM was also one of the major contributors to the massive layoffs at Dick's sporting goods.

Shortly thereafter (or maybe around the same time), Adidas wanted to dump TM and started looking for buyers. Callaway followed TM's frequent release cycle, but perhaps handled inventory better (I'm not sure how to find accurate, supporting evidence for this. I do see tons of old Cally models in my local shops just sitting there, but that's just one observation).

So yeah, PING has historically (and still doesn't) follow frequent release cycles. They used to be on a consistent 2 year cycle, then they moved it to 18 months for most of their stuff, and even going the other way with some models (s irons every 3 or so years). I believe they started staggering model lines too when back in the day they would release G, i, and s series all in the same year.

Can anyone confirm if the stealth is the same as on the original Vault putters? I'm hoping for a durable option.

Will the Ketsch be available in counterbalance? On their website they list the CB grip but the Ketsch model only lists "conventional" where before they'd list variable or heavy, etc.

I think maybe they are trying to achieve that with the Tungsten/Steel/Aluminum weights for the bottom but I am not sure if that is enough weight to CB a putter since it is only a 30 gram swing over all? Also, I don't know if you get all 3 sets of weights when you buy the putter or if you have to pay extra for additional ones and if so where do you purchase those from?

I'm curious on the weights as well. My interpretation is 15g heavier...7.5g each weight? That would only put the head at 380g. Shouldn't counter balance be in the range of 390-400g? I think PING achieves the counterbalance with a heavier grip vs weight in the shaft?

Really like the looks of the new PP61, PING says its similar to the PP58. But does anyone know the weight? PING used to list all their grip weights on the website, not sure why they took those details away.

Sounds like it will be PINGs version of the SuperStroke GTR Tour.

- Josh

I think you're right, and I was going to update my earlier post - I have heard this grip is in the 80-85 gram range. Which is about perfect if you ask me.

Not sure if this has already been covered, but does anyone know if Ping has plans to transition all models of the Vault line to the 2.0 line?

Seems strange to me to have the two lines, one with the weights and one without. Also strange that the Voss appears in both lines.

Thanks.

just ordered 2 PP61 grips through morton's (cannot recommend Seannie enough - best cs experience i've had buying golf equipment). I haven't seen anything written about this grip yet but I really think it will be popular for people wanting a larger pp58 with less taper.

here's the info from ping cs:

Can you advise on the weight and shape of the new PP61 putter grip? Is the PP61 shaped like the pp58 but just larger? Does it have more/less taper than the pp58? Also, are the weights/shapes all the same on the PP62 putter grips [seems like just different color schemes by putter line]? I like the pp58 midsize but want larger/less taper grip.

Our reply:

Thank you for contacting PING! The PP61 is a pistol style grip that has a similar profile to the PP58. If you prefer that specific style, but something not as tapered and a bit larger in size, I would recommend the PP61 for you. All of the specifications for the PP62 grips are going to be the same, but the newer ones just have a different color way design. As far as the actual weight, the PP62 is 66.5 grams, the PP60 is 50.6g, and the PP61 is 60g. If you have any further questions, please let us know? Thank you!

Anyone know if the Dale Anser can be ordered with a sight dot instead of a sightline?

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

I'll second that, Seannie is great over there at Mortons Golf. She has helped me a few times where Ping has screwed up.

Really? Please weigh your PP61 after you receive it. Maybe it is 60. But I would be surprised if it was the same weight as the others, since it reportedly does have the rubber underlisting. The others are foam. Usually rubber is about 20 grams heavier (and feels better)
