I really hope not. That would mean 460cc head. I need the smaller club head of the D3 drivers. I can't play with a 460cc driver.

I had said the same thing, as I prefer the smaller head. Unfortunately he hinted at the head being longer/wider (think G400Max vs G400).

 

Again, this is all hearsay. Other than the patent linked previously, I see mixed "word-of-mouth" suggestions.

 

Lastly, he was saying once the patent goes through, he believes China will start producing immediately. He estimated he would be fitting the new driver by Fathers Day.

917 D3!!! One of the best drivers I've owned to date. Really looking forward to trying the new driver - heard a few things but nothing for certain. I did hear that the JDM version posted earlier was more of a "D2" type of driver which would lead me to believe the 919 will be different (slightly?) than that one posted.

 

Spin is your friend.. you just have to find which amount is right for you.. through chasing that sub 2k/2k spin and having my misses in terrible spots to have the 10/10 good ball be really long, I've found that 2400-2800 on misses is good for me and equates to more fairways hit and really bad swings still in play. Too many people on here chasing the same thing with the same drivers and ultimately end up with the same results and seem to really care about what drivers others are playing :)

So many on here have an unhealthy obsession with spin. It's not nearly as important as the armchair experts here would have you believe. Drives me nuts when a new thread gets started on a driver and immediately, all that's talked about are the Trackman numbers. Here's hoping that Titleist continues to give us a 440 cc, traditional option that doesn't have any of this dumb garbage on it to chase a spin number.

so true! Peoples golf balls curving off left and dropping out of the sky and yet they still insist on using the low spin driver. 3/10 which are bombs won t make me game a driver if all the rest are left right and centre

TOtally agree guys . 2400-2800 is my good range too. Lol. I try to kee it under 3k. But I can produce 4K with the best of them.

I should not have stated flatly earlier that I “don’t care about spin”. What I actually meant is I don’t care about it enough to use a club that I just don’t like.

 

I’ve been on a driving range launch monitor device at a demo day when the original M1 came out a couple years ago and I needed an X flex tour spec 757 to get just under 3000 myself. Im usually only +1 AOA and 110 mph and play a cut. I’ve not been on a launch monitor ever with my 917 but I can tell by ball flight and distance that it’s as good as anything else I’ve tried. The main thing is that I love the way it looks, sets up behind the ball, feels, and sounds with 10 grams of hot melt in it.

 

I just won’t play a club if I don’t like the look and/or sound of it. I can’t stand the new Pings. The shape, the sound, the titulators. I literally detest them to the point that I won’t even bother to hit them anymore.

 

I don’t care for the white and black crown or the sound of any of the Taylormades. Ive considered trying one with the white blacked out.

 

I did like the Look and sound of the LTD but low in the face strikes sort of sucked. Not at all a fan of the new F8 copying the Taylormade look.

 

Never warmed up to the Epics.

 

Never tried a mizuno 180 but I do love the blue and the shape of them. Might need to give one a go.

 

We shall see about the new 919. As one poster has said, It may be shaped like the pointy butted Pings. If so, I don’t want it.

Went through my Titleist Thursday fitting today for my driver/3w. What a great experience. My fitter had just returned from TPI and hinted at a few things. Pro's have already hit it. All things lead to a composite crown. More of the same that has been mentioned earlier on this thread BUT he did add the following:

 

1. Perhaps only 1 head shape.

2. 45.5" standard - chasing that distance.

3. Potentially going toward Tensei for stock shaft options.

 

I got all shaky in my boots!

 

45.5 standard length would be disappointing.

 

Order it at 45", forsure Titleist will be able to swingweight it in some way if you want ti 45"

It is interesting.

 

But bear in mind OEM's will patent tens of designs each iteration.

 

This isn't so much a window on the next gen, more an attempt by a manufacturer to patent a lot of designs and cover their bases.

One of the main reasons I prefer Titleist drivers is that they come at 45" stock. Truly hope they don't change that aspect.

Back and side spin numbers are useful pretend numbers to help see the situation. There is only one spin axis, usually tipped to the left or right. And only one spin number. But, if the “back spin” portion of that is low, then the axis is able to be more tipped by the “side spin”.

I wonder if the new Titleist driver will have a SP700 titanium face like the C16. It seems that Mizuno has figured out a way to use this material in a cost efficient manner. Plus it seems that Titleist prefers to not go the carbon fiber route. They've used carbon in the past, but haven't in some time. Just a thought. I think we can all agree that the new driver will included some type of adjustable weight, that will be expensive to buy separately if you want play around with swingweight.

Whatever Titleist does, they need to get their numbers up in terms of distance. I just can't seem to get the ball speed numbers with Titleist drivers like I do other companies right now. Having said that, I really hope they don't change the head shape up. The D3 shape in a full 460cc would be my dream.

Had lunch with my pro today and he had been in a Titleist meeting all morning. Said they’re aiming to have the clubs on tour in May and to the public in June or July. Apparently the 917 line requires a 115 or higher swing speed to be optimized but the 919 will be much friendlier to players of all abilities.

Just to clarify I don’t think they meant literally 115, more that the Titleist face doesn’t flex as easy as some others and you have to really get after it to keep up. Made sense to the pro. Tour guys and high speed guys are fine. Sweet swingers might not be. I took that as the main point.

Today was titleist day at my club. All titleist woods discounted now. Rep said protos in hands at the players. All new woods coming. Said product is something never seen nor done before. Couldn’t elaborate but said they’re awesome.

89 here at my course in SC. He said the new driver is releasing end of August, early Sept. Said they have made the best driver on the market and will go farther than anything out there. He said he wasn't sure why but R&D this is what they decided to do. Everyone wants distance he said so they have produced big time. He couldn't give specs but said it will be leaking soon. Said it looks nothing like they've had before..Driver, Fairway Woods. Confirmed called 919. Omg............
