How heavy is your 33" putter?

I have always used a 33" putter. From cutdown Pings, to cut down Cameron's. loved the fact that he went to 350g heads, and then 360g heads. But now, even at 360g, the swingweight is c9-d1. 35" putters play at the "tour preferred" d6.

If this is the case, shouldn't we be using 370g heads to get our swingweight up, or is there a reason a shorter putter should have a lighter swingweight,

I have a 364g Mills, a 365g Seemore, and a 370g Guerin Tour Spec. Much prefer the 370g mallet.

What weight are you using?

Any decent clubfitter can restore swingweight when they cut down a putter. Mine has done it for me. Believe he uses tungsten powder to achieve it.

So....amateur tally

330g. 5%. C2

340g. 8%. C5

345g. 2%. C7

350g. 11%. C9

355g. 5%. D0

360g. 27%. D2

365g. 14%. D3

370g. 16%. D5

375g and higher. 16%. D6+

The sweet spot is really 360-370g. I am not that odd as I thought...

Swingweight has very little value for anything other than standard length irons with standard weight grips.

On putters, it has less than very little value. It's just silly to talk about swingweight on putters that vary from 32" to 40" or longer, having grips they weigh anything from 45g up to three times that much. The length and grip weight, once you get outside of old-school typical specs, completely fool the swingweight scale.

Scotty selects all come with 20 gram weights when they are 33’s. That makes them 370 I believe.

15’s At 34”. 10’s At 35”. I am not a Scotty expert so anyone else can chime in. I just know that’s how they do the weights.

I play a 33” ghost spider with heavier than stock weights in the weight pods and a little bit of lead tape as well.

I don’t know what the actual head weight is. Swingweight is D-0. There is no “rule” on it. It’s just preference.

I believe I read that Phil Mickelson’s SW is only in the upper C range. Don’t know where I read it so I can’t provide a link.

I thought Selects were weighted like this;

35” with 10G weight = 340G

34” with 15G weights = 350G

33” with 20G weights = 360G

This is how Cameron’s are weighted. If I go down to 33” it’s gotta have some weight to it, preferably in the 370 gram range. That said, I’ve come to realize that the weight of the grip makes a big difference also. Grips these days range anywhere between 50g and 125g+, that’s huge.

It's kind of funny but I normally use a 34" putter and the only 33" one I have is a Byron Morgan Proto made for the Tour @ 365g and I use it in comps because it makes everything!

I know you are now thinking why I don't use it all the time but I don't want to use up all the luck. It's like you know how whenever you go to the toilet for a pee, that is when your team scores on TV and you miss it. So now, if my team is behind, I will hold it in case we need to score near the end, but you can't abuse that kind of fateful thing - like the 'magic' putter.

Make sense? - no, I thought not. :-)

33.5 length and 340-345g weight.

I got into the heavier heads for awhile (360g) but I went back to 340ish putters last year and putted much better - especially on faster greens.

My distance control is much better with a lighter head and I feel like I can control my stroke better.

360g head, cut down to 32". Couple small pieces of lead tape. I've always been told a small strip or section won't make a noticeable difference but I can sure feel it or at least I think I do.....

Tried counterbalance, great for lag putts and terrible for short putts.
