Best equipment change for you this year

Recommended Posts

Two changes, at both ends of the bag.

The G400 Max is the best driver I've ever hit and it's not even close. It changed my whole scale of bad/OK/good driving days. I had a 'bad' driving day yesterday which consisted of hitting some fairway bunkers. Average driving days are my old 'good' days. And my 'good' days are ridiculously good...the driver is like as easy as hitting an 8-iron.

At the other end it was my PING Glide 2.0 ES 58* wedge. I bought it on a whim to go with my Glide 54* SS. But I rarely used it for anything but bunker shots where I needed extra loft. One day I was practicing my short game and just decided to try it around the green. Holy smokes! It was almost like cheating. Chips, pitches, flops. I was more accurate with it than my 54*.

Going all titleist...

I used to laugh at the fanboys... but after getting T-MBs, I started pin seeking. Tried and SM7 and loved it... so I went to the Dark Side...

Gooooooood... Gooooooooood....

TS3 set to C4, weight set to fade, HZRDUS Smoke Black and I am hitting more fairways than ever, as well as being +8yards vs. my G LST.

Tried a 917F2, again weight in the toe... TX diamana blueboard... money. Haven't bagged a 3 wood for 8 seasons and its now my go to safety club.

If I hadn't opted to go full Titleist bag, I don't add either club.

Managed to drop my HCP to single digits again for the first time in at least 8 years.

Replaced my old Adams 4H with a Heavenwood. So much easier to hit, and gave me that nice high ball flight and quick stopping distance I was missing with the 4H. It pretty much single-handedly saved par for me on multiple occasions after terrible tee shots.

Of course, a couple of months later we moved across country and there is FAR more wind to deal with out on the coast so I'm curious how playable my new favourite club is going to be.

Newport blade type putter to a TM Spider. Still like changing putters frequently but that is a great putter I've easily made twice as many 20+ foot putts with it this year. Also upgrading driver shafts was a huge improvement in accuracy and distance.

I’m glad I stuck with mine through some terrible struggles for a year or so...figured it out when I went claw full time. My setup is so funky lol heavy toe weight. But it’s worked. Glad you found your sword too

Bizarrely switching from an M4 driver head to M3 - much more controllable and able to hit a draw again.

Switching putting stroke to left hand low - easier to align and smoother more confident stroke

PIng G400 driver - change in the first half of the year and consistently hit more fairways than ever (~50% to 12/14). Replaced an Anser and JPX-850. Demoed everything!

Toulon San Diego - 2nd half of the year and though I'm a solid putter, my 10' and in conversions of birdies went up while making more par savers.

Dropping 3 wood and going straight to g400 5 wood.

Haven't done this but definitely thinking about it. I only use the 3w for putting from off the green these days, just too inconsistent to risk using.

I went and tested my 3 wood against 4 and 5 woods in a sim and the numbers didn't lie. Only Cally club in my bag but I went with a GBB Epic 5 wood. Go from that to an 816 Titleist H1 hybrid set at 22 then 5 iron and I'm covered.

Dropped my old TM Rosa Daytona putter for a Piretti Potenza 2 Elite. Used it to win a SC Select Newport with a Johnny Miller signed headcover in a charity tournament putting contest so technically it's the only club to actually make me money. Unless you count way old TM Performance putter, which I used to win the Rosa in the same fashion. Gave that away recently.

Also, throwing out anything that looks like a hybrid and picking up a 2016 M2 5 wood. Better in every way.

F8 3 wood from 910FD. So much easier to elevate.

Also to a set of Miura MB001 from MP-64.

I hit the miura so much better. Don’t know if it’s the shape, less offset or what but it’s night and day difference.

Not a major change but picked up a normal LTD head instead of my LTD Pro head. Packed it full of polyfill to hit the same weight. Increased my carry distance to help clear a few shortcuts on the course I play.

I found more fairways and greens by accepting my FADE instead of trying to DRAW a ball. Jump to a heavier shaft from a AD6s to AD7s in a driver.

Opposite here. Have been trying to hit fades forever, but have accepted that the draw is my shot. I guess as long as it doesn't turn into a hook it's a good shape to play with. But that's a big if!

Added a g400 stretch 3 wood 13 degree set at 12.Really love my g25 3 wood but needed a 3 wood for more distance off the t.Really struggling with my driver theses days with consistency.

Keeping the ball in ball in play with little distance loss has help my game.

My answer is exactly the same. Don't even hit a driver much anymore.

Going to a JumboMax L grip on my chipping, pitching, sand club. 58*

Cured some yips, keeps the hands quiet. Almost never use the club for a full swing. Works just like the large diameter putter grips.

Reshafted my Rouge Sub zero with an Xcaliber PRO TSL TS. The Rouge did well for me but I had a right miss that would show up at the worst time. Swapped in this shaft and it made for the most consistent setup I have ever played. I have virtually eliminated the right side of the course which is very foreign to me.
