Best equipment change for you this year

After over a decade of trying to control (not hook the S out of) every hybrid I could get my hands on, I quit trying and added a Ping G410 Crossover and it has been fantastic.

So far it's been putting the F6 Baffler in the bag as my 4 wood. What made it an even better purchase was when I installed the Nventix Nunchuk in the club instead of the stock shaft. The club with the weight forward launches plenty high, and is very forgiving for such a small headed wood. I like the fact that I can up the loft and play it as a 5 wood if I ever found a 3 wood that I actually like off the deck. Until then, the Baffler isn't going anywhere.

Had been hitting low on my driver and massive draws for most of 2019. Everytime i build clubs for my father i put senior shafts in for him and occasionally give them a hit. Rarely miss the fairways. So i changed my driver shaft from a Diamana B series 60 stiff to a Diamana S+ 60 regular and havn't missed the sweet spot yet.

 

No idea whats causing that to be much better but ill take it!

It's looking like the switch from 915D2 with Diamana D+ 60X to an M3 with Tour AD BB 6X has been the best move so far. Thing feels so natural and absolutely bombs.

I held it as long as I could. Finally broke down and actually got professionally fitted for irons instead of trying to self fit. But that's it for the year.

Ping G400 Max w/ADIZ cut to 44.5" I'm not ever going to be a huge bomber off the tee, but I'm in the fairway very consistently. I've noticed I'm getting on the green in a similar number of shots as the guys I play with who consistently out drive me by 30-40 yards because I'm in the short stuff almost every time and they're hacking out from behind trees and out of the rough so much more than I am.

 

Using marshmallow golf balls (Wilson Duo Soft and Callaway Super Soft). Like I said, I'll never be a huge bomber, and I can actually compress these. Ball flights are much better. Holding the greens much better. Chips and putts are much more consistent.

 

Finally, buying a lightweight bag (Stitch SL1) where I can comfortably walk 9 even in the heat. Doesn't make me play any better, but it is helping me get some exercise regularly which is invaluable as I get older. I'll save the big Titleist 14 slot bag if we're riding.

Going back to my '99 Ben Hogan Apex blades from the Titleist AP2 716s I gamed last year. I am hitting the ball better and have more feel in my Apex blades.

Did another big bag change and have finally settled down for awhile. The driver stayed, very reliable. Changed woods to Cobra F9 5 and 7 wood. Hybrids staying for now, OS 5 and 6. Irons are now P790 as I definitely wanted to try the hottest irons, and they are that good. Glides work for me, and that 50* is a beast. TM Spyder Pro Red C/S is awesome., I have never owned a straighter putter, and the feel is very good, nice touch. Ball is the Bridgestone 330RX, just a reliable ball. Took awhile to get used to the P790, but now they are warming up very nicely. This is my favorite golf bag of all time.

Switched from the 2013 x-forged to the Titleist 718 AP3 irons. So far great. More forgiving, longer. My first 9 with them I shot +1.

Played blades for 20years, best change so far this season has been Ping Eye 2plus irons 5-sw with 130x C-tapers. Just absolutely stellar irons.

Best change was getting a Ping G400 LST with the tour shaft. picked it up on a whim at PGA Superstore. Sold my CC built "fitted" driver, found this is WAY more forgiving, I'm getting better ball speed, better spin variance, and I'm hitting it just farther. But more importantly, fairways with good strikes are up. Handicap has dropped 2 points alone with this club.

 

Now the next change is to get a 5W and replace my hybrid (I think) and see how that goes.

Top end of the bag. I can hit greens from 180-210 yards more often. I’m always a decent irons player, but hitting hybrid straight was always tough. This year switching to Apex and Cobra help my score a lot.

Ditching KBS c-taper 130x for DG X700. Also changed from AP2 716 to 718's which was such a huge upgrade.
