You're correct. The heads are originally manufactured over the limit, tested and then dialed back by inserting the exact amount of resin (we have a proprietary algorithm that tells us exactly how much to inject) via the ports to bring them just under the limit. As you can see the ports are on the left and right side of the face, as flexing takes place closer to the perimeter vs. in the center. User @jll62 has some pretty good images from his trip that show where the resin is.

Here's his image showing the resin (clear color) sat behind the face. The green material you see is there to purely house the resin. Then the screws are put in and bond with the resin....we have some pretty smart engineers. :swoon:

Q0QEF7P.jpg

Green material = resin housing

behind each RED screw on the club face is where TM inject the resin?

RED screw will then be screwed in and bond with resin?

TM algorithms calculates how much resin to inject on both left and right resin pocket to bring the COR/CT back down to legal limit??

Every M5 and M6 driver (tour players and everyday consumers) will have 0.830/257 with this new process??

Would be interesting to have a technical explanation from TM about how this structural piece (green) and resin actually works.

To me it appears to only be supportive of the lower part of the face....what about the flexture of the top portion?

Perhaps it has to do with the face design and where the face flexes the most.

Very interesting.

Also interesting that each production driver will be tested for CT(COR) to provide max allowed CT...no other oem can say that.

Very nice looking driver with excellent design components....top of my list.

Agreed. From the marketing, it sounds like the face is non conforming. The resin is then added to reduce flex making it conforming but still allowing increased ball speeds on the perimeter of the face. Without seeing the cutout or the screw location, i would have thought the resin was closer to the center.

I’m looking forward to trying both the m5 and m6.

I’m assuming the tour heads will have ports for hotmelt, but will the retail heads have that ability as well? The M3 had the ability for both so I’m curious. Thanks

Hit the M5 today and it was super low spin even with the weights in the back of the head. Ball speed up 2.5 mph and total distance was up 7 yards. I used 2 of my gamer shafts to compare on TrackMan with TP 5x outside. Even on the misses the carry would suffer but total distance was still strong. Will be testing M6 soon.

Current or New TP5X? If current you might gain a couple more mph.

Can anyone confirm that the shaft adapters from previous models will work with this latest model?

I have been told YES. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Many of the reviews I have seen of the M5 460 have results showing fairly low spin and high launch.

What swing speed do you have and did you see a high launch?

What loft were you using?

This time of year I am 100-104, the head was a 9.5 and I had it turned up to 10.25. Launch was similar to my 17 M2D, head felt a bit heavy to me and I play my drivers @ 44.25 give or take. I will probably be a M6 guy.

Not sure why the face screws are necessary. Add the goop resin before fixing the carbon crown or sole to the clubhead?!

I dont know. Just seems like it’s unnecessary but I’m not an engineer by any means.

Edit* guess because they test the face and then use the algorithm to insert a specific amount of resin. Nevermind.

I’m assuming the tour heads will have ports for hotmelt, but will the retail heads have that ability as well? The M3 had the ability for both so I’m curious. Thanks

Both the M5 head I hit at The Kingdom and the marketing images I've seen have a hot melt port out near the toe, just like the M3. I can't say with certainty it will be there on the heads at retail, but I don't see why it wouldn't given that the M1s and M3 have all had them.

While the M5 Tour sounds interesting and I like the head shape, I have worries it may be a bit too much "low spin, low launch".

Here is the results of the 9* M5 from Rick Shiels testing. He has the weights set in neutral position and is using the HZRDUS Smoke X flex shaft.

Notice the launch height at 15.4* and only 1849 spin!! Wow.

High launch and low spin = significant distance.

Q. Why would I want lower launch and spin than this? May the 10.5* Tour head?

I see that Alex at GolfBox was using a 10.5* M5 with weights all the way ahead and getting similar launch and 2000 spin.

So, not so quick to jump on the Tour M5 at this time based upon the M5 460 numbers I am seeing.

I'm curious to see how they market the rogue and how they treat the epic flash. Epic went by the wayside at the announcement of rogue and now the same is happening to the rogue. Epic and rogue were marketed as not replacements for each other and on 2 year cycles for each but they way they discounted them upon release if the other would lead o e to think they are replacements which would put Callaway back into the old 1 year cycle perception

Callaway was very adamant that Rogue did not replace Epic, and that they were sister models, even at our level in retail. But here at least, Epic prices (nor our wholesale) dropped when Rogue came out...they both sat at the same price point. Which I was pretty vocal about with my reps about me not stocking Epic after the Rogue launch, because even though I was being told Epic was still a current model product and not replaced by Rogue, that Callaway wasn't helping me (retailers) out by only advertising Rogue (think back to early 2018...only Rogue advertisements, everywhere). I kept saying that their marketing was counter to what we were being told, and that the end consumers were in fact going to think (and did) Rogue had replaced Epic because that's all Callaway was talking about...no marketing mention of Epic anywhere once Rogue launched. I'd say this year will repeat that, and as of now, I'd bet we don't see and corporate mention of Rogue again in terms of advertising or marketing.

Until next year when they release Rogue Flash...

Callaway has now become the Taylormade of the SLDR/RBZ/JETSPEED era and Taylormade has become the more sensible one.

Nah. There just both going farther down the hole. Gapr ? ( I owned one ). Tm isn’t done with the odd releases.

Wow I just noticed that M5/M6 have a stock length of 45.75''. At this rate, around 2022 we'll all be hitting long drivers off the tee.

I have to cut down every driver I get nowadays. I seem to remember a Callaway driver like the xhot or something that was at 46”. Kinda extreme but nothing new I guess

Yep. It’s pushed me to tour heads only. Why ? So I can get a heavy enough head to play at a decent length. You can actually buy a tour head ( any brand ) and shaft separate for as cheap as a new retail head and upgrade shaft , then send for hotmelt. It’s nuts. Just have to be a patient shopper. But it’s not too hard to do.

I agree TM still puts out some odd stuff but they had greatly improved their release and stock issues and imo reduced customer confusion while Callaway has reverted back to their old ways.

Callaway tried to use the logic that releasing one line of GI this year then another set next year and keep them on two year cycles isnt yearly release but to the general consumer they see 10 iron sets and have no idea where to start. Now with the drivers they are saying the epic was a breakthru with jailbreak but as soon as rogue came Epic wasn’t all that and rogue improved on epic but isnt a replacement but the consumer walks in an sees epic cheaper than rogue and wonders why. Now they will see rogue reduced less than a year from release and the epic flash next to it.

I hit a shot during testing that was “pulled” and moving left and the spin registered at 950! Good strikes were sub 2000, misses were 2500-2800 and TrackMan had them running out to very good distances. I was still getting around 2000 spin with the weights back. This driver is already very low spin.
