What is your biggest difference in 9 hole score during a 18 hole round? Tale of two nines

This goes back a LOT of years.... in Fla for the PGA show and met a few friends, also in the golf business, in Daytona for a fun day of golf and a few beers. Played the front nine like I had never seen a golf course before. I seemed to hit every hazard I could find on the front and shot 55. Of course picked up the nickname "double nickles" for the next year or so. The back nine was as if some tour player entered my body. Shot 34, (2 under). That was one weird way to break 90 but hey, 89 is 10 shots better than 90 right?

37 front and a 46 back, a couple chip-ins and some long putts dropping on the front, other than that fairly normal golf for an 18 handicap.

Played 36 today:

50-43 from the blues

40-46 from the blacks

Played the front 7 shots worse than the back, then turned around from the longer tees and lopped 10 off my front 9, before collapsing on the last 4 on the back bogey-bogey-bogey-triple.

33-46. I missed an easy 4 footer on #9 for a 32, and everything that could go wrong on the back 9, did go wrong. The funny thing is, I play 9 holes a lot, and almost always, play the back. After that front 9, I was super confident making the turn, and the bottom fell out! It was in an interclub match, and my partner played well on the back, and we won.

I went 50 front, 36 back a few years ago. On the front I just forgot how to play golf haha. On the 10th tee I got my head in the game and shot even par on the back.

Dont know if its the biggest but went 47 (4 lost balls) 39 last week with a three putt on the back and a lateral drop. It was rough both 9's.

First time I ever broke 90 (a while back) - went out in 52. Two beers at half way, back in in 37. 8 pars and 3 putt bogey.

41-34 for me, last weekend. Three 3-putts in the front nine and 2 actually “good bogey.” On the back I swear it was a different person putting.. 3 birdies and 1 bogey. After 9 I sort of told myself I wasn’t playing that bad and just needed to keep fighting and it worked.. hopefully I can keep doing that from now on...!

Many moons ago, I was playing with a couple of buddies at a course I had never been to. Shot a 35 on the front. Made the turn, got a single beer when we passed the clubhouse, and proceeded to put up a 53 on the back 9. I was a mid single digit handicap at that time, so I was stoked with a -1 on the front, and absolutely appalled at the +17 on the back, lol. Had to be the most aggravating 88 I have ever shot.

Heck...another one with last weekends rounds. Saturday was a 43 on the front with one par & 8 bogies. The back had 2 bogies, one double, 3 pars and 3 birdies for a 36. Then Sunday was a 42 on the front with 2 pars & the rest bogies. Back was 8 pars & 1 bogie for a 36 again. Talk about one hole at a time.....

My first ever competitive tournament in high school as a sophomore, nervous as all heck, shot 56-43-99. So proud to break 100 lol.

36 front (par 35), 52 back. High school tournament at my home course. I think I started on like hole 5 or 6 (shotgun start), played well, no idea what happened on the back. Must have hit a lot out, there's OB on pretty much every hole on the back. Made the turn and played okay, finished with a +1 36 on the front and a +16 52 on the back. I wish this was a joke.

First time out this year i shot 65 on the front and 48 on the back. I usually shoot in the mid 90s. The front nine was probably my worst nine holes ever, including when I first started.

last night I shot -2 on the front and + 8 on the back.....a 10 shot swing for a 78 total.......thank god I ended the night with a par on 18 or else I may not have played the rest of the season...lol.....

Personally, while I seldom impress myself, I am somewhat impressed when I shoot 73 going 40-33.

33-40 though and instead of thinking I had a really good round, I'm just (mostly) disappointed. Guess that's "glass half empty" ? LOL

Everybody has had "blowup" backs. Why ? IDK. Law of averages ? "Fear" of going low ? Just nerves ? Who knows ?

But when guys have a poor front, as some of these latest posters have posted about, and can pull it together and grind for a great back, to ME, that shows some kind of character/fortitude. It's just so easy to have the poor front, say to oneself, "Just not may day" and pack it in for the back 9.
