New PXG prototype driver

Was able to hit both PXG models today in some driver testing for a local company, hit those along with the Cobra F9 and then the Tommy Armor and a Srixon driver. Have been excited to try the PXG since they were unveiled, personally I think it’s a great looking driver, never hit the previous models so can’t compare.

Was hitting the PXG 0811X model with a Tensei Pro White 60x in both models as this was one the shafts sent for testing and the closet fit to what I use. Cobra was with the Hzrdus Smoke 6.5 60g, heavy weight forward. Really loved the feel off both drivers and the looks of both though PXG wins in the looks department.

Both were giving pretty similar numbers, within .5 degree of each other in launch and spin was within a couple 100rpms of each(can’t remember exact) but between 2400-2500. Carry was within 2yds of each with the Cobra winning that 271-269, total distance went to the Cobra at 289 to the PXG at 281. Ball speed went to the Cobra as well but they were within 1mph of each 155/156 with an avg ss of 108-109. Cobra also won in dispersion.

I would love to hit the PXG some more with a little heavier shaft and more ideal weight set up, see what the numbers and dispersion would look like, but it’s a great looking driver and still in contention to go into the bag but for now the Cobra just edged it out.

Will be doing more testing in the coming weeks, as I’m supposed to be hitting 24 total drivers, basically everything new coming out.

I might be a little off here in my reading. Are you saying you tested the PXG and the Cobra with two different shafts?

Looks like the Pro White in PXG and the Smoke in Cobra

Nothing is safe in my bag!

I wouldn't really compare number's using two different shafts (again this is just me). There is probably a lot more of a difference in shaft's then heads. Do look forward to trying out the new PXG Drivers, as that was the only thing I really wasn't a fan of from their "Gen1 clubs". But, honestly it is going to take a lot to get the G400Max out of the bag. I just love the look of the thing at address and I have never hit more fairways since moving to it.

Yes you are correct, it was 2 different shafts which I know isn't ideal but I cant really help what the companies send to be tried with the drivers. This is more of a product testing than actual fitting testing, but it at least gives me a chance to see all of the drivers and try them, most of which I will be trying with whichever low spin/low launch shaft is offered. I know no two shafts are the same, I have played the Tensei Pro White before and honestly prefer it over the Smoke, I would like to try the 70x Pro White in the PXG just to see what the numbers are and I might be able to work that out as I have a Pro White lying around, just need to put an adapter on it

When I narrow it down more closely as to which driver im going to play, I will try to make sure I can test each out with the same shafts to get as much of an equal comparison as possible, then again some heads/set ups may work better with a different shaft for the player. My post was just more about being able to hit the PXG, how it compared to the others I hit. I only hit the Gen 1 drivers a couple times, have been playing the hybrid for several years and will be upgrading to the new one soon, looks wise I think the PXG is fantastic and its a very solid feeling driver. There are still a few other drivers that I'm interested in in the testing, but if it came down to either the PXG or the Cobra, with the right set up I would be very happy bagging either.

And really, if you care about mass properties and the actual performance of a club, the new PXG's are (reportedly) dissimilar from what PING currently has on the market. One of these new PXG drivers has (reportedly) a higher MOI than any PING offering, and the other PXG has a vastly lower center of gravity.

I'm all for merited PXG critique, but yeah...

...two strikes.

Even the XF drive (again, reportedly) has a cg designed on the neutral axis. For a driver with that high of a (reported) MOI, that's virgin territory... In short, based on the reporting thus far, the PXG seems to have the best mass properties story of the year.

What is the price of the new PXG drivers?

(HINT: It's not twice the cost of a PING.)

Just shows the validity of the post. Nothing but a PXG hater looking for crumbs!!!!

Put in the order for the X with Tensei PO, am excited to try it. Like that the head is heavy (206g I believe) and its 45”. No one does that anymore. Plus I think the look is great.

Went in blind. I ordered from a local rep. Went 70TX same as the Tensei Whites I play. If I hate the Orange I can switch it out. Couldn’t do a Club Champion fitting(only local fitter with PXG). Such a tedious process of trying to up sell shafts that would come with the club for extra 125$ through PXG. Last time I did a driver fitting they couldn’t find anything better than what I had fit for myself. Just rather avoid the BS and put it on BST if I don’t like it. I look at lost money on clubs as a demo fee.

I like that motto. Lost money on clubs is a demo fee. I’m going to try that one of my wife too:)

The Mizzy ST190 is standard 45”. Cobra F9 is too and has option for 44.75” even.

Yeah but the head weights are sooo light. I love cobra drivers (have played the last 4 versions) but they keep getting lighter and lighter. I know you can add weights ( I play a 12 and 8 in the F7+) but by the time they come out with the weights for purchase its July. The F8+ I bought last year weighed 189 grams. I want to play a super stiff shaft so I need a heavy head so I can feel it and it loads properly. I probably am giving up yardage, but feel and straight more important to me than distance. I am hoping the PXG is a nice combo of both.

Tried the new drivers today during a local fitting with the area rep. Head to head vs my G400 Max (Also was fitted for me), I gained 6mph ball speed, higher launch and lower spin. Love the sound too. Very muted. Kept the same loft as my G400 Max.

Awesome! Which model, I'd guess the XF if you game the MAX...

Does anyone know if PXG will send extra weight screws for swing weighting? I know the easiest thing to do would be to call them, I plan on asking for some extra when I order my driver. I have an after market shaft I'm planning on using, so I was hoping to have some options other than hot melt for SW.

Have driver fitting tomorrow. Testing only 0811 X model with Pro White, Snergy Black, Elements Proto, TPT proto 14 shafts. All TX in diffferent weight ls each model shaft from 75g to 100g.

With 0811X head weight at 199g and testing some counterbalance shafts will be going to at least 212g to get desired SW.

Will report back.
