@rouges1922 I usually start checking about a month before, so you're actually late!

What, no afternoon round on the 15th?

Good luck with the weather and have fun.

@jvincent nah we figured we’d go light that day to recharge a little bit for the last two. Weather forecast goes from great to dreadful daily, so we’ll see where we land when we get there. Wouldn’t mind a rainy day or two, just hoping to have a couple dry days as well…either way, we’re teeing it up!

With that many days/rounds, I think it's a great idea to take an afternoon off.  Not just a physical break, but a mental one too.  Awesome schedule.

Great schedule and have fun! I would consider booking a round that afternoon, you can always cancel it while you're there with no penalty. You just never know, that may end up being the best weather day.

Is the no penalty accurate?  When I was there in 2018, we had one guy injure his knee and was not able to play our last round.  Bandon charged him the full price of the round and gave him a gift certificate for that amount to be used on merchandise or in the future for golf. It wasn't a big deal because we easily bought enough souvenirs to cover it, but if you cancel an entire foursome it would add up.  My understanding is that you can't cancel a round on short notice without paying for it in some form, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Played this weekend and overheard the front desk to tell folks to keep their second round booked and if they don't feel up to the second 18 they can cancel for no charge. Was a group of guys on their first visit.

@Slippin_Jimmy yeah I was thinking about it, might add on Old Mac just in case we’re feeling up to playing, it’s the only course we only have scheduled once.

Def schedule a round of golf on that day and if you decide to cancel then no big deal.  I was in Bandon for 8 days in the Summer (You can read my review on WRX a page or so back.  Its titled "I got Bandoned") and we played a minimum of 36 holes a day.  Your body will hold up fine.  Again if you decide to cancel then no big deal but at least you got options.  Nothing worse than being at the worlds best resort and you cant play golf because they are booked and you made a mistake by not having the  option.  You have been waiting for this trip along time.  Give yourself at least the option to play

There is no penalty if it is your second round of the day.

The policy I have seen:

- First round of the day cancelled short notice = charged for the round and given a gift card

- Second round = no charge

I am heading there in March with some Newbies and gave them the advice - pick out what you want to buy, but hold off buying it until the end of the trip incase you have to cancel a round and need to spend a GC. (or return the item and re-buy it with the GC)

This is correct.  However, earlier this month the weather was so bad they actually offered to cancel our first round of the day free and clear, no voucher.  First time they have ever said that and I've played in pretty bad weather there.

We went out anyway.

3 weeks out from my next Bandon trip! Heading down from Seattle and we will be driving. We are considering playing somewhere on the way down and have never done that in the last few years that we have been going. The plan is to leave early and knock out most of the drive before spending the night in Coos Bay. Sounds like we will head past Portland before stopping to play. Myself and a few others have played a handful of the PDX courses though we did consider Langdon which some of us have played.

Here is what is being considered so far and I am seeking feedback on:

- Florence Golf Links - W of Eugene - I know I have seen posts on this course from others on this thread - 1hr drive to Coos Bay

- Diamond Woods - NW of Eugene, I have never heard of it but looks like it has hosted qualifiers in the past - 2hr 10m drive to Coos Bay

- Bar Run - Roseburg - New course, further south on I5, haven't heard much about it but looks cool - 1hr 45m drive to Coos Bay  (edited as I just saw on the website only 10 holes are open and remaining holes still under construction, due to fully open this summer)

- Other suggestions welcome!

Any insight is appreciated!

Of the two you list, I'd unquestionably opt for Florence Golf Links (formerly known as Sandpines). It won Golf Digest's 1993 "Best New Public Course in America" award, and while Diamond Woods is enjoyable, it's nothing to go out of the way for.  Better yet is Bandon Crossings, a few miles south of Bandon.  What I'd suggest though is diverting over to Gearhart on the north coast, just south of Astoria, and play Gearhart Golf Links before driving down Hwy 101 to Coos Bay and Bandon.

Agree on FGL, definitely over Diamond Woods.  Personally, I like FGL more than Bandon Crossings, but both have fescue turf and are decent layouts.  But if I'm within shouting distance of the resort, I'm playing there.

Gearhart is a great old school course - a good option but a much longer drive when you're done.  Depends on what you're up for as far as the drive is concerned.  101 from Gearhart to Coos Bay is around 4-5 hours, depending on motorhome traffic.  Pretty scenic, though and a couple great seafood stops.

Thanks @Seamus_MacDuff @spud3 - Yeah I think we were heavily leaning towards Florence GL already. I had never heard of Diamond Woods so figured I'd ask. A couple of us have played Gearhart in the past and really enjoyed it but it won't be happening on this trip with the goal of getting us close to our destination of Coos Bay the night before Bandon so FGL is checking those boxes.

None of us have played Crossings before and a handful of us want to but always hard to find a time to squeeze it in and I don't think our group wants to drive past Coos Bay (and past Bandon) to Crossings then back track North to Coos Bay.

We will be 16 strong at Bandon for most of our 4th-5th trip, a few rookies and 2-3 guys that have been 10+ times. Can't wait to be back!!!!

Definitely go to Florence.  I like that course and it is challenging when the wind blows.  17 is a bear when the wind is in your face.  Diamond Woods used to be pretty good, but maintenance is an afterthought now.

Bar Run isn't complete as you've stated.  I still haven't played there despite living 4 miles away.  This summer, they charged $120 with a cart for all day golf over 10 holes.  It's $65 now, but local golfers can't afford that, and they are not offering annual passes.  I hope that changes.  I've heard it's nice.  When finished, it will be 6300 yards from the tips with 6 par threes.

$120, for 10 holes, in Roseburg?  Good luck!

It was as many holes as you could play, but who wants to play the same 10 holes for hours and hours?  Not me.

When Myrtle Creek first opened, they charged $75 with a cart.  I told them, "Good luck."  They said they would get golfers from the casino and vineyards.  They also said if they charged less, they wouldn't get folks traveling I-5 because they would think the course stunk if it was cheaper.  Bar Run has been saying the same things.  Myrtle Creek has failed a few times.  I hope Bar Run comes to their senses before they alienate the local golfers and fail.

While I’m sure no one is surprised. Tried to call and book a foursome for either august, September or October and couldn’t find anything without room changes etc. bringing 3 first timers so want to stay in same room entire time.

thoughts on booking off site accommodations and running risk with tee times? That can’t be ideal.

any other tips or just wait till 2024?

Sorry, a bit confused.  It sounds like there were tee times but no rooms unless moving daily?   If so, then stay offsite is a fine option.  There are a few good places in Bandon.  You just have to play more for golf, but you will pay less for rooms.  I personally love BW at Face Rock since it is right on the ocean and a 5 min walk to the beach.  Or get an ABNB

But if you are saying there were no times either, in my experience it is not worth the risk. It would be low probability of getting a 4some.  However, you can keep trying for the time and book your room once you secure it.

Is Myrtle Creek a solid course? It looks absolutely astounding in pictures but I haven't yet made the drive up from Medford

Sorry. To clarify. Tee times available. Just no rooms onsite available.

One quick question for those that may know. Tee times in august if we wait till 21 days out… how bad will the options be if we decide to stay offsite?

I haven't played it since the new management took over.  The new management owns Oak Hills in Sutherlin and it's both a good course and well maintained.  The new management also runs the 9 hole Muni in Roseburg and they've run it into the ground.  They take the money they make from the Muni and put it into the course they own.  So who knows what they will do with MC.

As for the course itself, I think the front 9 is terrific.  Some challenging holes with big elevation changes.  The back 9 is all right.

You can't book the times now, unless you book the accommodation on site. What he is suggested is waiting until 21 days out and hoping the times are still there.

If it was me, I would book the times and the less than ideal accommodations now on site, and then try to change the accommodations closer to the time. There is no down side to doing this as it you get a full refund of the deposit up to 30 days out.

Hit or miss is the issue. You may not play all courses potentially depending on what is available 21 days out.

Had same issue first time looked at going.  Went last year and stayed onsite and it was excellent.  Having 5 courses they can get alot of players out.... to build that many rooms would never be cost effective
