Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round 3)

Do the courses not realize that JB will shut them down again if morons are out in carts and groups of four? If people can’t walk courses in the Chicago area (among the flattest in the country) then it’s time for them to find a new hobby.

... Human nature I guess. Just some selfish, sh!tty people out there. I play with 3 someone in carts that play music at a low level, drink and have fun but are respectful of the game and the people on the course even iff they aren't very good players. But yea, selfishly I really love the current game being played by people only interested in golf.

Played Palmira in the morning. Say what you will, but Indiana governor (government?) gets it - foursomes allowed, regular tee intervals, carts allowed (single rider only, unless the 2 riders can prove they live at the same address), foam ring in the bottom of the cup. Again, used my state of the art Wilson pull cart, and had great time. Course was in good shape - some wet spots here and there, but didn’t encounter any plugged balls, greens rolling nicely. Played well enough to shoot in the mid/high 70s, but my putting was atrocious. Add 3 drops, and you wind up with 82. Looks like our group will be heading to Lake Geneva (Highlands course) in couple weeks.

Schaumburg today. Surprised a bit at the conditions unless the city isn't allowing maintenance on the course. Weeds a plenty, greens with lots of ballmarks, a ton of po annua. We lost 2 balls in the rough, 'nuff said. Looked at the Tournament 9 and honestly, it's got a long way to go before it's open. Greens look good but fairways are bare/rough.

Played Glen Erin today for the first time. What a fun course! Wind was whipping, but course was really dry. They didn't get anywhere near the rain we did. Love the layout and the undulation on the course and greens. Only downfall was that the greens were sanded....and are running slow. A few holes I'd certainly play better knowing how the holes and the layouts. I'll certainly find my way back again later on this year.

Anyone know of courses allowing a single to book a tee time? Seems like most around me (Glen Ellyn) aren’t allowing it. I get it, but I don’t always have someone to golf with early morning weekdays.

10:00 on Saturday we got a call from GolfNow that they double booked our 11:45 George Dunne tee time. Not the first time that's happened to me, and no I don't want your voucher that's only good on Tuesdays between 1:00 and 1:15. We scrambled and found an 11:15 at Old Oak. Kind of shocked that I made it to Homer Glen in 35 minutes I haven't played Old Oak in years, forgot how decent it is. The greens were punched, in a week they'll be nice. I'd go back.

Drove up to Sand Valley for an day trip yesterday. Played Sand Valley and The Sand Box. For off-season rates, I though the courses were in excellent shape. It's a long day with all the driving, but I would definitely do it again.

Played Buffalo Grove yesterday for the first time. 6:30 am tee time, second group out. Played in 3:15 with no waiting. Course was in fine shape for a rinky dink muni, but greens were definitely on the slow side. $44 seems pretty steep for walking that course, but I don't mind a bit of an upcharge to help the course make up for the loss of revenue from no carts, no food and beverage and 50% capacity.

Not a particularly pleasant morning at Coyote Run this morning. The temperature was 46 when I teed off, and the wind chill was probably in the mid 30s with the steady northeast wind. I can't complain about the 2:30 pace, or the conditions. Fairways were near perfect. The bunkers were freshly groomed, other than a handful of spots where the early birds had played out of. Greens looked great, and were rolling at 10 I'd say.

Monday golf is a mixed bag. The course is practically empty, but you have to deal with the maintenance crew. I got unlucky in that I was playing leapfrog with 3 mowers on the back nine. I had to wait on nearly every shot. I can't blame them for doing their jobs, but with nobody behind me I wish they'd have taken a ten minute break and let me get some distance between us. I did get a round of applause when I hit the flagstick with my approach to the 16th.

Seriously, what's with the carts? If the courses aren't going to follow the rules it's only a matter of time before the governor shuts them all down again. Three holes behind me a twosome each had a cart, and they sure didn't look like blue flaggers.

Just ridiculous with the carts. But, not surprising. I knew that the courses would interpret the blue flag rule extremely liberally. Give an inch, take a mile.

LD was spot on yesterday. If you don't want to play golf without a cart for a month or two, tough shit, stay home. I mean, good lord, this is happening at fucking Coyote Run. Literally a walk in a park. Sad.

I just went back and read the IL restrictions and now I understand why I saw so many carts at Boone Creek (any why others on here saw a bunch). I thought it was for people with disabilities but the restrictions say anyone with "physical limitations" Just about anyone can claim they have a physical issue and this will likely be exploited going forward.

Poplar Creek on Wednesday, imagine course will be in nice shape.

... As I said earlier, I only have two afternoon rounds in at Naperbrook last Fri/Sat but not a single cart on the course either day. I am playing Prairie Bluff Wed/Thur so it will be interesting to see how many carts they let out.

The cart rule is pretty loose, and I think even at that no course is going to question it too much because it’s extra revenue.

Anyway, Village Greens was Village Greens. They’re only doing 9 hole rounds right now so more people can get on by using both 9’s. I really love the 15 min/2some rule, although after seeing it I really think they could go down to 10 minutes without much of an issue, there were 3 holes between groups at the 15 minute pace. I also like being forced to walk, I need to get back into better shape and this will help. I put $300 into a push cart with a goal of walking a lot more this year.

My golfing was awful, but glad to be out.

Carts were all over Bull Valley all weekend.

A shocking amount.

Didn't see any at Oak Grove.

I thought the conditions were great for $110 on SV and $30 for The Sand Box. The greens were fine, no rakes in the bunkers, so if I was in a crazy foot print I moved it. That only happened once or twice. Sand Box did have people tee off on mats, I like mats so it didn't bother me. All the common areas are closed, no driving range, practice greens, or patio by Mammoth. The bar area has been turned into a take out only restaurant. But, to get away from all that's going, and play golf all day it was worth the drive. I'll do it again in a few weeks.

It looks like courses are figuring this loophole on the carts out:

From Ravisloe:

"We feel the opening weekend was spectacular but we are tweaking operations as much as the state will allow. We are going to begin allowing single rider carts under the following stipulations:

-Handicapped parking permit.

-Doctor’s note.

-statement from the golfer stating he/she is unable to walk the course.

The cost for a single rider cart will be $20.00 per golfer"
