Really hoping raw is no upcharge as I was hoping to do a wedge fitting this summer.

 

These SM8s are also begging to be stamped. My grandpa had a bunch of dumb sayings he would say all the time and he was an avid golfer. He passed this year. Got some stamping ideas to honor him on these.

Anyone know the difference between the M and D grind? They seem to be similar

Yes, the D grind has more bounce than the M grind. They do appear to each have a somewhat similar amount of heel and toe relief.

Very similar but the D grind is going to have more bounce than the M.

D grind is no good for me... Too much bounce in the bunkers

Just curious ... are your bunkers real firm, or do you find the D grind has significantly more bounce than the M ?

Do you guys just really like rust?

The MyGolfSpy guys say the build up of rust doesn't add spin; prior to SM7, the raw wedge grooves were sharper because of the lack of plating.

Since SM7, the grooves are cut so that the plating brings them right up to spec.

No disrespect, just curious.

Other benefits of rust: less glare

Otherwise, is it just preference?

My preference is a raw wedge. I have no illusions of it giving me any enhanced performance in spin or otherwise. I really cannot stand glare when looking down at a wedge. But my primary reason is that wedges tend to get beat up, with nicks and scratches through regular play and the raw steel rusting seems to make it less visible. I used to play exclusively black wedges instead of chrome but the wear pattern being so uneven really just bugs me visually. I am hoping that reports are true about this years raw wedges being more readily available outside of wedge works.

What I can't figure out is which of the SM8 wedges have the tungsten toe weight? Is it just the lob? Or do all the wedges have tungsten in the toe? Playing the Cobra CB/MB irons which have tungsten plugs in the sole and toe. Seem like the SM8 would be a good match for wedges.

According to the story on here, just the 58 - 62. Most of the stories out there give the impression it's all of them by not making that point (assuming it is correct).

I found it to have much more noticeable bounce. It was very noticeable in firm bunkers. Or when trying to lay the face open more.

I play a good mix of courses so I like to have really versatile wedges.

The D in the SM7s I gave up seemed “chunky” - best I can describe for me.

 

Still love my SM6s but come summer these 8s are looking more interesting. Darn this place.

Titleist seems to be going the Scotty way with their wedges now too.

The release-to-release tech is not much, the Tour guys get special grinds and finishes, and the rest of us need to pony up extra $ to get the Raw finish from wedgeworks. Sound familiar?

Sounds very familiar. However, this is the first time (at least in quite a long time to my knowledge) that Titleist has listed raw as a finish option on the main retail site, other than Wedgeworks. What that means I haven’t been able to figure out yet. I believe that I read somewhere that raw will be available for order through your retailer. If that’s at an upcharge I don’t know. I have been a long time Vokey guy and want raw. I do refuse to pay Wedgeworks prices for a disposable product. I usually go through a set of wedges each year because of the number of rounds that I play and practice. I’m keeping my fingers crossed this time. We’ll know for sure on February 11th.

Raw will be a custom order option and not through Wedge Works! To my knowledge there will not be an upcharge for Raw SM8!

Apparently Titleist has found a cheaper source of rust. They can offer raw now at the standard price. LOL!

I mean besides they can squeeze people an extra profit; shouldn’t raw be cheaper to produce because you skip an extra step of plating then re-cutting it back to specs?

It is only now maybe becoming free. It used to be very expensive which is why WedgeWorks charged so much for raw wedges. Apparently their source of the rust has gotten cheap and the efficiency of their rust injection process (proprietary) has gotten much better.

I like the head shape on these. Much better than previous iterations. I could be mistaken but the leading edge looks a little straighter, which is a big plus.

Was hoping for higher CG location than SM 7. Hopefully these launch a little lower.

Raw looks good, however, it doesn't add to outcome just some feel at impact, course that depends on shaft.

What's the difference between SM6 and new SM8 wedges? Most of the grinds are the same so why switch to SM8? I been playing two SM6's since they were introduced and spin is still fine.
