How to act like a pro golfer...tips

Recommended Posts

Making light of how pro golfers act. When the pros you know “put their face on”. What observations have you made? Some of the things they do that would make us mortal golfers look silly.

I’ll start with “the strut”, you have to have the strut. As a pro golfer , practice your strut in the locker room. Away from the cameras . You don’t want people seeing you practice “the strut”.

Also thousand yard stare: while walking to your ball after the tee shot. Stare down the fairway. Don’t look at the fans! They may ask you some dumb question , best to stare. Keep that stare up !

Anymore fun observations ?

You absolutely MUST have a dead locked-in "step-into the ball" move.

You really need a tour bag, with your name on it.. It needs to appear you are sponsored by a particular brand. So The bag, and at least 12 of your clubs and ball should be the same brand. If they sell apparel then you should work that out as well, any good Titleist guy wears FJ's for example.

Always wear trousers while playing in a tournament.

Never clip your towel to your bag, it should be stolen from the Holiday Inn you stayed at while on the road, it should be draped over your clubs

Unless your name is Bryson never have a brush to clean your clubs.

You need a yardage book cover and multiple books in your staff bag.

Hire a personal trainer, at least claim to have one, and hire a swing coach as well. Make sure you use the term swing coach.

You need a hat sponsored by a resort, or a wealth management company.

Your swing needs to at least look tour quality on the range.

Be able to name drop people on tour, or associated on tour, you should speak of them on a first name basis.

Whenever you join a group as a single, make sure to let them know you are just playing a "practice round" in preparation of a big event, therefore you will be "working " on some things and may play multiple shots.

Make sure you know how to talk equipment backwards and forwards, or go the Fred Couples route and claim you are just a feel player and play what the guy from the tour van recommended.

When re-living your round make sure you make it clear you "should have" had at least 5 more birdies.

Always make it clear that your have a caddie, even if no one has ever met him.

Never be caught playing a surlyn covered ball, always urethane, and make sure it is the only brand in your bag.

Always have a tour style shag bag in your trunk, full of ProV's.

i once shot a par 3 with the rangefinder ... admittedly, was standing about (I emphasize about, since i did not walk it off) 2 yards behind the box since that's where i put my bag down ... "176, so 174ish" says I ... a visitor from Ohio, admittedly a decent golfer with a 5 hcp or so, stepped up to the tees with his range finder and shot it ... "I got 173, Tiderider" ...

i've never forgotten the lesson ... never, ever think you're not good enough to dial it in 2 yards if needed ... that's what the pros do ... and you are a gd PRO ...

I'm still working on it, my twirl is not good enough to game...I might open a thread on the Instruction forum, any tips?

You've got to start on the range, even if you don't flush it you need to force the club twirl on every shot just to get the mechanics ingrained. Once you start to get the hang of it and can twirl on command you start working on dialing it back to your good shots and flushed shots. As you continue to get better, wean yourself off twirling on the good shots and only twirl on flushes. Just like everything, practice makes perfect and it's important to use your time on the range to really focus and get better. Pro tip though, during a round (on the off chance you don't flush one) its sometimes a good move to throw in a humble twirl on a chunk, skull, shank, duck hook or slice so people don't think you're an a-hole.

Solid tips there, I already worked a lot on my shanks, duck hooks and skulled chips across the green so the twirl will fit right in I think. My Sunday arvo pals will be blown away!

You could learn aimpoint express. Or at least fake it. Straddle the putts line and hold up 2 fingers. Hell. Make it 3 fingers. Lol. Nod to yourself convincingly , then proceed to miss the putt , then add in the combo of tapping down the imaginary spike mark.

Haha this and always stare at your putter in disbelief, because it couldn't have been something you did that caused the putt to miss.

Make sure to tap down your own footprint after picking the ball up

Stick a $100 bill in your worn glove and hand it to people you hit with your balls?

...nevermind, that might get expensive.
