Is One Brand OCD a Thing?

You're on to something. I can't wear shoes from a particular manufacturer and clothes from a different shoe manufacturer. So no Nike sweats with Adidas shoes and so on. I might be ok with Puma shoes and clothes from another shoe brand but wearing both Nike and Adidas, I simply can't stand.

There can be legitimate reasons for sticking to one brand. I stick with Titleist irons and wedges for very specific reasons. Titleist irons have a wider sole on their forged players irons (MB, CB). Since I tend to have a steeper AOA, the wider sole goes through the turf better for me. Most companies have a much thinner sole on their forged player's irons. Also, Vokey wedges have so many bounce options. I'm very particular with my wedge bounce degrees and profile. With woods, hybrids and putters I am less brand specific, however right now I have an entire Titleist bag with exception of my putter. Lol.

I am a long time fanboy of Ping equipment. I love Nike equipment as well but my soft spot for Ping goes back 30+ years. And as such, I have only 1 rule as it pertains to matching/mixing OEMs.

If you play Ping irons, you HAVE to play with a Ping putter. You can’t game Ping irons and putt with an Odyssey or SC or Bett. So lame. But that’s just me and my crazy OCD. ?

All the brands make good stuff. I wanted to replace my Epic hybrid and was focused on Titleist or Cally, as those are what’s in my bag now. After demoing everything, it came down to either M6 or G410. Ended up buying the Ping. Now my bag is 1 Ping, 2 Callys, and the rest Titleist.

You have to consider all brands objectively because they all are good nowadays

It’s a thing. It has nothing to do with golf clubs and can be bad and you may need help.

If it’s making you crazy thats very different from preferred or brand loyalty.

Me? I tend to match my driver/woods (currently TM) but they may or may not match anything else in my bag. I play a set of irons usually 5-gap (currently PING) that may or may not match anything in my bag. My wedges (currently Cleveland) will typically match each other but may not match my irons or woods. My golf balls and putter (currently Seemore) may or may not match anything in my bag. I also tend to use golf bags like Sun Mountain and Ouul that don’t match anything else.

I was all TaylorMade for a few years and even after being fit into a Ping driver at Modern Golf, I found reasons not to like it because of this one brand OCD. After being fit again there last year into Mizuno irons, I decided to go with whatever worked best in the woods and it turned out to be a Ping again. Now, pulling the final thread was getting rid of the TM bag for a Jones. As soon as I wrapped my head around it and got rid of the bag, I fell in love with all the clubs in my bag for how good they are, not for the name on them.

I like my bag to match my irons, my sand and lob wedges have to be the same brand but can be different from my irons. My woods don’t need to match each other let alone anything else. Having said that, I do have preferences for each slot:

Driver - Taylormade is always the preferred option here as I’ve always played well with their drivers.

woods - whatever works. Sometimes it’s my ping other times it’s my old mizunos or my v steel.

hybrid - after 15 years I’m still using my Taylormade rescue dual....

irons - prefer pings. This is my third set in a row.

wedges - prefer Cleveland, ping or vokey. As long as they match.

putter - prefer Scotty Cameron’s. I’m aware they’re nothing extra special, I just prefer the look and feel of them.

most of my choices are due to what has worked in the past. For example, I can’t play Callaway clubs. Even at my recent fitting for my pings, my pro took some other sets out including a couple of Callaways. He asked me to hit all the clubs without looking to see what each club was and I knew which the Callaway irons were as I just couldn’t hit them compared to all the other clubs, despite the same shafts and length as others. He found that amazing as i stuck to his suggestion, didn’t check to see what I was hitting and he’d taped over the logos on the grips as well, so I had clue.

I've tried the one brand thing before and I always felt one of the clubs was a compromise just so it all matched.

For me, as long as driver and woods match, irons match and wedges match I’m happy. Also bag putter and balls must match any of your clubs I’m happy.

I have taylormade woods, srixon irons, Cleveland wedges, putter, bag and whatever balls I find.

i like the new Cleveland drivers and woods. But I have to buy them all at the same time cause I couldn’t imagine a Cleveland driver with taylormade woods. Lol

It was a thing for me for quite a number of years. I went through a phase where I had to have all Titleist clubs, then I went through a phase where I had to have all Mizuno clubs. Now, I dont really care whether or not the brand of all my clubs matches and really have no brand preference whatsoever.

My bag now is all Tommy Armour and in some ways that kind of bothers me but the clubs are such a great value and are wonderful performers that I just couldnt say no.

Matching equipment is one thing, cloths and shoes is another extreme that I haven't seen. I can't imagine matching my Ferragamo loafers to Zanella slacks or my Ecco World class golf shoes to my Tommy Bahama shorts. To each their own OCD oddities...

Seriously, most responses are clueless. If your golf stuff has to be matchy, matchy just for show or some misplaced brand loyalty, that's dandy and anal retentive. But if you are truly OCD and it's spilling into your everyday life, then that's another and has nothing to do with golf equipment. Being "slightly disturbed" about other people's bags in not normal. Obsessing over you own bag is one thing, but starring at it and becoming truly unhappy is not.

You clearly point out red flag instances and say things are getting worse and all of that is not normal.

Cwing spit it out and said it, so I won't have too. Somethings are be beyond the scope of a golf forum and this is definitely one of them.

Yeah its a thing and i have it. Im a callaway guy. Nike before that. It had to be all nike before from bag to driver to putter and it has to be all callaway now. I refuse to be that mismatch guy. Ping bag nike driver taylormade 3wood wilson irons blah blah lol. I cant do it. Im not dogging on players who do that but its just not something i can do. Im currently putting together a callaway rogue set. Rogue staff stand bag, rogue driver and 3 wood. Epic flash hybrid. Apex 19s. Jaws wedges. Odessey putter. Sometime i sit and stare at my bag to imagine how the other clubs will look in it and what wedge colors would look the best. I know wierd . I have the wedges putter driver and 3wood so far. Need irons snd hybrid this spring. Your not alone. Ball though is the one thing im ok being different but i do mostly play cally there too

No loyalty but a couple rules.

TM woods always, IMHO they make the best all around and longest wood for me at least, and have used TM woods/hybrids since I started playing golf back in 2013.Mizuno Irons, again best all around and i never game any irons with inserts,TPU,plastic or speed goop in them, forged CB or blades only. Wedges, always vokey and putter always a scotty. I just feel these are the best performers and best in the feel and look department. never bag anything callaway/odyssey, hate their marketing and everything they make looks like box set material (hell you can find them at costco lol) and they just don't seem to perform at all for me.
