Another course set up to make PGA Pros look great. It may be Donald Ross but this is a bland layout. Great to see Golf in Detroit Rock City (cue Ted Nugent, Bob Seger etc) but the venue is featureless.

I think it looks like a nice member’s course, but not much of a challenge for these guys. I hope the next couple weeks are tougher than it’s been, so far. These 20 under tourneys are ok every once in a while, but not every week. I would like to see a course where hitting a fairway means something.

I thought the same thing but a lot of good players were making a mess of holes. They have weird little ditches or gullies with grass. Uncut deep rough grass. Some water. Lots of trees. It is not Oakmont but it seems to be harder than it looks.

Not a stitch of wind is making it easy to come into the greens. Very difficult up and downs when you miss. Plus, the course just isn't long enough for these guys, especially with the fairways running fast.

The stuff BDC is doing is interesting but from what I'm seeing so far all its doing is exposing his short game and ability to get close to the hole from inside 100 yds as Tour average at best and below average at worst. From where he's put it so far today on some of the short par 4's I could pick a good handful of guys who would do a better job of converting than he is doing. Honestly he should be leading by about 3 now (with the lead currently at -17), but he's stuck at -12. Some days he gets hot but he seems to be very inconsistent from a scoring perspective. It feels funny saying that for a guy who seems to finish consistently high but that's kinda how I see it. Its fun to watch though.

You are correct, of course, by the numbers. But in his case the ranking from various yardages can be deceiving. On a 440 yard hole would you rather be hitting wedge from 100 yards to 15 feet or a 8 iron from 160 to 20 feet? The 8 iron would give you better SG approach gain but the wedge gave you a better scoring opportunity.
