Azinger poor choice of word

On the last hole of the 120th US Open, while waiting for BAD to hit his second shot, Azinger tried to fill the empty air with his “brilliant thoughts.”

 

His words, “ ...this is validation on STEROIDS for Bryson and the second guessers will have to rethink... everything Bryson does is in an effort to be great and make history.”

 

I know what he meant but I think that was poor choice of word in the context of his message.  Especially since people talk about how BAD got bulked up.  He could’ve just said this is vindication for Bryson that everything he’s done has been ... (and the rest of that message).

 

Unless, PA was using that message to be suggestive and push the conspiracy further.  ??

 

Anyone else catch that?

I did catch that but as much as I don't like his announcing I honestly think it was just "off the cuff" with no intent.

I think it's obvious that the intent was something along the lines of, "this is validation to the nth degree". Zinger has never been known for his eloquence. Have fun with it if you want it, but I think it's a dead issue.

'taking advantage'  is now the buzz word complaint..     rory sounds like a whiney middle school girl.  and for all the talk of the usga needs to do something,, rory, dj and wolff all out drove him according to golf channel talking heads..

 

I think it's brilliant, but I think he's taken advantage of where the game is at the minute. Whether that's good or bad, it's just the way it is. With the way he approaches it, with the arm-lock putting, with everything, it's just where the game's at right now.

Paul azinger seems to make comments that don't sit well with a lot of people. Last year he dissed somebody for being courteous to his opponent, like he wasn't competing hard enough.

Speaking for myself, I think “hater” is a little harsh. I think most people prefer the style that was predominant when their favorite (yes, Jack for me) people were playing. I don’t like the “bomb and gouge”, much like I dislike the way baseball and basketball are played now.  But I don’t hate it, and I certainly didn’t have an aneurysm about it. 

I actually think we found the real benefit of BDS’s increased strength, getting the ball out  of the rough. I think that was far more important than the length.  Just my opinion though.

I heard it as well. Not the best word choice, but I think "huge validation" is definitely what he meant, not that Bryson is juicing. Unless you count all of the protein shakes as juice, then he is.

For legal reasons, it was a bad mistake for an announcer to make. But it is also a fair thing to bring up given his transformation and if it was any other sport there would be more questions asked. But without any evidence, it's just not something you can publicly.
