Who will be the Masters Honorary Starters in 30 years?

Need a Euro in the threesome. Sergio would be of age and has won it.

LMAO @ some of those pics. Ricky, don't click! I think the age machine might be a bit off. Rory looks plausible, Tiger looks like he's on a sour lemon only diet for the next 30 years ( I know he's kinda been on one for the past 10). Spieth looks like the banjo playing kid from Deliverance aged 40 years.

Based on current performance, Spieth could take over the duties in 3-5 years. All kidding aside I expect Tiger and Phil will do it for sometime, like Arnie and Jack did ..not sure who the third will be ..

Sergio's an interesting case, I think.  He's won the Masters once.  (Could win more, of course, in the next 30 years!)   Makes me wonder what makes a player popular, or charistmatic enough, to be a starter, if wins aren't the sole criteria?  Garcia hasn't changed the game the way Lee Elder did, so historical impact isn't a factor.  But I think Garcia would be a better choice than other one-time Masters winners, like Sandy Lyle, or Mark O'Meara, or

I agree -- Tiger and Phil are shoo-ins.  The third starter is the wild card, and I think it'll be someone who, in the next decade or so, does something remarkable.

I think a lot of people will associate Garcia, Phil and Tiger as a group. Especially once they’re all done playing regularly and only the highlights, wins and near losses remain. That’s why his name always comes to mind when I think of this. He went from “what could have been” to “finally breaking through.” Whether people like him right now or not will change over time and people will appreciate him a bit more as he ages I think.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Tom Watson.

Another reason to miss Seve. He would have been a perfect choice.

Yes, Seve!  May he Rest In Peace!

Watson -- good choice.  He's 71 now. I can see him being a starter when there's an opening for sure.

The better question may be who will be doing it in 10-15 years?

The Jack, Arnie, and Gary combo made sense as they were by far the 3 most dominating players of their era.

The Tiger, Phil, and (player to be named later) combo makes sense in 30 years for the same reasons.

Who fills in that generational gap in between? Watson and Faldo probably, but anyone else? Can't be Seve for obvious reasons. Curtis Strange never won the Masters. Sandy Lyle and Ben Crenshaw did win but I wouldn't really consider them to be all time greats.

Can't we just have Tiger and Phil? We had just Jack and Gary in the few years after Arnie passed. Why can't it be two?

Tiger/Phil makes a whole lot of sense.  Sergio is the obvious Euro answer but a Euro isn't a requirement.  If you're going to throw in a third Bubba would make more sense than Sergio.

The next generation would have to be Faldo, Watson, and Langer

Nick Faldo and Greg Norman.

Nick will be reliving the day the Norman blew the Masters with a 6 shot lead and gave Nick his 3rd Masters (narration by Nantz).  Greg will be showing pictures of himself on the beach with his package and saying he beat Wilt Chamberlain's record.

Once they do a new rotation (after Jack and Gary no longer do it) I think they will return the the tradition of three.

We all know how Augusta feels about tradition...

I love trevino above all...he is a texas legend...

floyd, btw, was a world beater when he hit tour...everyone knew he was special...

and floyd says the only man he’d be afraid of in a match play is trevino....then he often cites Lee’s 18 hole us open win over the goat...

anyhow, this never gets old

Tiger said Hogan and Norman were the only 2 to "own" their swing, i would add Trevino into that, amazing player, in my personal top 3 of all time fave golfers

It's interesting to me that if we're thinking "greats," then Gary, Jack, Arnie, Phil, and Tiger seem at a whole other level than Watson, Lyle, Floyd, Langer, etc.  Seems that we'll go from the Greats as starters, to some Notables, back to the Greats.

Watson was pretty dang great. 40 PGA Tour wins and 8 major championships.

Phil has 44 PGA Tour wins and 5 major championships for comparison.
