15 clubs in the bag?

I'm similar except my choice is between my Fli Hi 3 iron and my CB-57 set 3 iron.  Depends on how well I'm swinging.

That makes at least two of us.  Sits unobtrusively under an old knit driver head cover.  It's not like I never hit one in the water or into the low palm bushes (damn those thorns are sharp).  If I can see it, I'll retrieve it.

Exactly. Didn’t know there was anything wrong with carrying ball retrievers, Lol! All good, I’m not a trend follower and it’s practical! My buddies appreciate it when I scoop up that wet or muddy unreachable ball for them, and even PGA Tour Pros still hit balls in the water, so I’m not going to pretend like I don’t too!

14 is already too many.  I'd be good with 10 as the limit, but would never happen.

I have read that some say it would slow down the game. I don't think that's reality. Before I get to my ball oh, I already know what club I'm going to hit most likely, and an extra club doesn't make a difference.

I'm guilty of carrying 15 sometimes just for testing, even in my 14-slot bag!  But I probably never actually use 14 in any round.  I'm pretty indifferent for competitive golfers using 14, 15, 12, 10.  People can shoot in the 70s with one!

 

Time-wise, yeah some pros on TV and hackers kill me with the amount of time taken to hit a shot.  I'm very conscious of my turn being quick.  Sometimes I'm just walking on joining people riding, and if anything tend to rush.  Heck, even alone with people behind me I don't want them catching up.  So regardless how many clubs I'm bagging I'll laser my distance and try to figure out the shot and club as others are setting up.

That is an interesting comment. I wonder how often, if at all, I use each club in the bag? Maybe I will keep track a few times this year just to see which clubs are most important to me. Like you say, I bet there are clubs I don't use in some rounds.

14 is already overkill. OEMs could make iron sets with 5 degree gaps and people would adapt quite easily. Having irons with only 10/12-yard gaps is kind of ridiculous. Should be more like 15. But that kind of change is never going to happen.

I am a proponent of 15 clubs in the bag, but am capable of having several less. I agree with your statement on gapping, as golfers could easily learn how to play this set of clubs. Actually, when playing with about 10 clubs it forces a person to adapt and be creative, which makes a better golfer out of themselves.

Just bought a carry bag, so we’ll see how 14 clubs feel on my back. Might end up dropping to 13 or 12 if it’s too heavy, we’ll see...definitely won’t be 15 though.

I play with 9 and score just as well as when I carried 14. 15 seems like overkill.

I never use more than 12, I cannot see why anyone would need more than that?

I typically carry 11, but can easily use 9 or 10 and see no difference to scoring. In the winter months I'll never carry more than 7.

I have never turned to my bag and not had a club to hit the distance I needed to hit

Reading through the thread, it seems people are mostly for the number of clubs that allows them to enjoy the game the most.  Some like the idea of being forced to be creative with fewer clubs and some like having a ton of options.  I don't really care.  For competitions and handicap rounds, I stick with 14 or fewer.  In my regular group, we don't care how many clubs someone carries.  Most of us can't hit 14 clubs well, much less 20!  In a side note, Arnold Palmer used to carry two full bags in the dog fight at Bay Hill and would use as many as he wished.  I'm guessing no one tried to kick him out of the group.

If you can't get it done with 14 clubs, too bad. Allowing > 14 would aggravate slow play even more.

 

If you can't get it done with 14, maybe you should switch your main sport to drinking double-decaf lattes.

  I almost never ever hit my 58 so I’d be fine with 13.  But then I’d be even more confused because my PING DLX bag has 15 slots.  Why is that again ?

I carry 15 clubs because my bag has 15 slots for some reason. I didn't make the bag, I just use it as designed. 🤣
