How could anyone be a fan of Patrick Reed?

It doesn’t appear the PGA Tour has any issue with what happened on Saturday. Maybe that’s the bigger question here.  Maybe the rule needs to be more black and white to avoid this issue.

This is the most honest statement of Reed's career and accomplishments relative to his peers. All five of those pros are more popular than Reed but they're also less successful. Reed is an incredible gamer and his short game is something we can all aspire to attain.

Thanks for that @idontnoh. I was trying to be balanced and draw the comparison to those mentioned. I realize that’s not the prime directive of the internet. Spot on with the short game Reed holds. At least my wedges look just as nice.

Good plots often have an antagonist, whom people love to hate; and sport is no different. Tennis has Kyrgios, UFC has McGregor, and golf has Patrick Reed. PR is a perfect golf villain/antihero. His ability is up there with the best, yet his occasionally questionable on-course behaviors tick people the hell off. 

At the end of the day, people talk about his actions because PR has games and wins trophies. I doubt that people would care abt what he does if he's just an average Joe. 

Even though I don't condone his shady actions, I do find them somewhat entertaining. Who doesn't like a bit of controversies? I ain't no saint so I can't judge him...

Dude is catching major heat for something that has been cleared by rules officials and people still don’t care because they apparently know more. And what did he do next? Went out and won by 5 strokes. That’s some mental toughness.

Back in the pre-COVID days, each PGA tournament would have at least one rules brouhaha.

 

The incidents usually pertained to either...

• a ball in the rough under odd circumstances; or
• where the ball crossed the hazard line when someone goes all-arms and pulls a tee shot 45 degrees left into the water.

Correct.  He couldn't see it.  He asked the marshall standing right there. She says it didn't bounce.  He has no way of knowing.  Rules say he can mark and pick it up, but not clean it.

Not so. Check the video. She clearly says in the video she didn't see the ball bounce which is different than saying the ball didn't bounce at all.

She clearly says, "um, no, I didn't see it bounce."  I'm taking that as it didn't bounce.  Everyone agreed to the rule at the time.  You move on and play.

At this point in time Reed and Kuchar both have 9 PGA Tour wins. That's all that matters. The rest of what you posted is totally irrelevant. Especially the continual tired old complaining about Kuchar and paying his caddie.

So TW played loosely with the rules a few times and is revered to this day.

Reed will never get that respect. Got nothing to do with their careers, you're either in the "club" or you're not. 

Nantz and crew dragging Reed was disgusting, saying how Rory is the saint and Patrick is tainted from here on out. 

Not a Reed fan, just respect his ability to close out a tough tournament.

If the volunteer says she didn't see it bounce how can you or anyone else draw an absolute conclusion that the ball didn't bounce?

Guy called in the official and asked. The official gave him the OK, what more do people want.

I agree, I wasn't much of a Reed fan before but I'm quickly becoming one.

The guy is tough as nails. The entire media is slogging him and with all kinds of pressure on this back he goes out and destroys the field... no wonder he's so awesome in Ryder cups!
