Disappointed with Scotty Cameron champions choice putter

I just received the putter I ordered from my local retailer in Australia and found what I believe to be a couple of small defects with it. Obviously this is a limited release so there aren’t going to be spares lying around to exchange it for but I expected better,  especially with the cost of these putters.

Firstly the shaft doesn’t seem to fit the head properly. Has anyone notice this with other Scotty Cameron putters?
Secondly the paint work seems a little bit shoddy toward the heel of the putter. Neither would really be noticeable in terms of performance but I can’t help but feel a bit short changed. I bought it to use not to flip it and earn a quick dollar.

Why not reach out to them instead of posting here? Maybe they will fix it for you if you ask. They do putter restoration as a service after all.

I wanted to gauge people’s thoughts on it. If it is an acceptable standard then I don’t see much point in shipping it off for what will probably amount to 4-6 weeks.

Also the putter that I am gaming is going to take some beating so if it didn’t work out I wouldn’t want to sell it in a condition that someone else might find unacceptable.

Flip it and use the proceeds to buy yourself a custom Australian-made Kari Lajosi brand putter.

I’d never even heard of those until today. They look to have a few interesting options.
I may take a closer look at those as I do like to use a putter that’s not in everyone else’s bag. Thanks

You paid good money for it, why not try to get it dialed in to the standards you were expecting for the price?

Shoot he could get 2 from Kari for what he can flip it for. Can even get a copper insert too.

I have a pretty decent SC collection, but I don't have a ton of otr stuff

I was slightly disappointed at the level of quality as well. Nothing terrible terrible, just not great

It's just hard to keep up at the rate the level they produce things, but I'd take an original button back all day

I’d love one of the Koepka circle T button backs but can’t justify spending that type of money on one.
The off the shelf stuff has been pretty ordinary for a while. I sold one of the current studio selects after 3 weeks and played a Mizuno m-craft instead which felt heaps better.

Well I don’t think any putter would live up to your microscopic standards. Curious what are you gaming now and how does it stand up to your scrutiny?

I’ve never had any golf club that I’ve bought brand new have any noticeable discrepancies before let alone the most expensive club I’ve ever bought so that tells you one of two things 1, every manufacturer makes clubs without any faults or 2, I don’t have microscopic standards. Mass produced or not I don’t think it’s out of the question to expect the guys doing the paint fill or attaching the head to a shaft to do their job properly!
Do you also think that the guys that get their loft and lie checked when ordering new clubs have microscopic standards as well?

I don't and if it was your club with those issues they wouldn't bother me because the club is going to be gamed.

If I got a putter with a scratch or ding on the face or topline yeah that's a different story. Paint not being perfect, minor and can be redone at home.

Welcome to Club Cameron! I don't think Scotty has ever been known for exceptional quality control on OTR putters (not that it's bad either) , even his tour stuff has some pretty terrible paintfill and uneven stamping but for some reason people love that. Just know you aren't buying a hand finished putter from Scotty's OTR line, so this is perfectly normal, and none of what you've illustrated seems to worthy of mentioning imo.

Not at all I have had the loft and lie checked before. The things you point out to me are variables in production and would likely be found in many different putters. As a gamer they don't look bad. Paintfill on the sole that appears to have pooled too much in a corner, and the shaft looks like other flow necks I've seen. At address your putter should be fine and it is a gamer. So it will get some "imperfections" from gaming it. I give you credit -- at least you didn't post about the patina in the insert like some have done -- complaining about it looking like it is getting darker when that is exactly what it is designed to do. Ultimately at the end of the day, it is an expensive limited production putter that will have variables.

I don’t see anything to be put off about really.  Especially if you’re going to put it in play. It’s a mass produced part that you’re not going to get perfection with.  Even if it was 600 bucks.

I would assume it is an assembly issue, shaft either wasn't fully seated, or it was and happened to work itself off center during the curing process.

Send it back or flip it...

Say what you want about Scotty's stuff, they should always sell for what you paid for it.

I got tired of the "Scotty lifestyle" and sold off my little collection (at a profit), it didn't make sense to have so much invested in a putter.

That said, I currently have a "chopped Mid Sur" in the bag now, and been happy with it this season.

More than any other factor your point above is why there has always been consistently high demand for Scotty Cameron putters and covers.

Thanks for all of the feedback. It’s interesting to hear these things are pretty normal. I am not saying I can’t put up with the small issues when playing, just airing my annoyance that they would sell them like that.
Time to see if it can knock the Mizuno m-craft II out of the bag!

Your annoyance is fair. Should be perfect.
