Needing Some Positive Energy for My Dog

Hey y'all, not golf related to be sure, and not a good time for anyone, but my dog, Emmet, is undergoing surgery tonight for a growth on his spleen. He's a nine year old Catahoula, and a huge part of my family. 

 

I know on some level it is ridiculous to be spending so much time, money, and effort on this animal - but he's my buddy. Always has been. 

 

If you folks might take a moment to send some good vibes his way tonight, I'd really appreciate it.

Hey everyone, thanks so much for your well-wishes. I do appreciate it. 

 

I also hate to bring everyone down, but I figure you all deserve an update here.

 

Unfortunately, Emmet isn't going to make it. He has a tumor that has ruptured in his belly, and there is nothing to be done at this point. 

 

He's been a great dog and has grown up with my kids, so it's pretty devastating for everyone right now. 

 

It sucks that dogs can't live longer and this is always the sad reality of owning pets. We will grieve and we will remember him. 

 

I'm not sure how long it will take, but eventually we will get another dog and put ourselves through this whole thing again. I suppose that's the price we have to pay in exchange for all of the love and joy.

I'm so so sorry for your loss, believe me, I know how much it hurts, and how long it takes to get over it.  I've been there a number of times and it never gets easier.  All dog lovers have that one or two very special "heart" dogs that they never get over, but of course, they love all the dogs in their life with all their hearts.  Fortunately, our hearts have room for more love, it just might take a while to be ready to love a dog that much again, but you WILL, & eventually wonder why you didn't do it sooner, I promise.  💔

Oh man, sorry to hear that dude. I also love dogs and we recently had to put down our shetland sheepdog.

 

It sucks as you say. The time goes by very fast.

 

We recently got another dog - An australian shepherd who is 9 months now, but part of me always thinks of how he will be old when my daughter is only 14-15.

 

Like you say, it's still worth it

I knew I shouldn't have clicked on this one, but I wanted to lend support. We put our 15 year-old pack leader down just 2 weeks ago. He battled so many ailments through the years but Kidney failure got him. I plan to spread his ashes at the base of a mighty Saguaro on a beautiful desert trail. Dogs are better than humans as we all know. My thoughts are with you.

So very sorry, I have been through it twice and it hurts so badly. It's been two years since my Bruno went down, he was only 3 years old. I still cry. Wishing you and your family sympathy and lot's of support.

Hope for the best!  One of the things I have always loved about our dogs....no matter how bad work is, they are always happy to see ya when you get home.  Our's are schipperke's.  It's worth every penny you spend to make them better.

Sorry for your loss, want to share one that still sticks with me even though it was over 20 years ago.  The first dog my wife & I had was a border collie.  She used to pick lottery number.  We took old golf balls & wrote the numbers down & she loved to "pick em" out of the box.  Sounds funny...the dog won $100 at least 15-20 times.  Cannot even begin to count the number of the $1 and up tickets.  The big one was well over 2 dozen times, she would be one off (high or low), from every number that was drawn.  We got her as a young pup and she was just short of 17 years before we had to have her put down.  An army could not have drug me out of the Vets office for that.  She had been there for me all those years, no way in he-- I am not going to be there for her final moments.  Yep...crying now while writing this.

 

Where she is buried at, have taken other dogs out to her grave in the hopes she might be able to pass the gift onto them.  No luck....yet.

I will say don't hesitate to get another dog just because of grief or feeling it's to soon. We give them the best lives possible, and in some cases if we don't they may not get the chance to at one. I went through a rough one with Mr. Tounge (middle dog), but I look back on the fact that he may not have had the opportunity to have his life if I hadn't come along.

So sorry for your loss. When you love dogs so much, it doesn't stop you from starting over again knowing full well you're going to be heart broken. The wife and I got our pup Daisy just over 3 months ago to fill the void after we had to put our previous of 13 years down in Feb 2020. Both are/were pretty amazing, but when the time comes for Daisy it will be unthinkable. For however long they're in your life, they make a long lasting impression.

 

Keep your head up and when you're ready there will be a pup our there waiting to join your family.
